Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Heartbeat Joins the Team

CTU Headquarters

Jack Bauer hung up the phone and called for Tony Almeida.

"Bring Estrada to my office."

Jack Estrada, codename Heartbeat, was an operative in CTU's field division. His parents were both military, and Jack Bauer had a strong personal connection with them.

Growing up in a military household, Heartbeat developed exceptional combat skills and discipline. He later studied psychology at Princeton University before joining CTU as a field agent under Bauer's command.

Owen had clearly let his emotions take over. Jack saw great potential in the young man and didn't want him to self-destruct over this case. So, he assigned Heartbeat to be his brake, ensuring Owen didn't cross the line.

When Heartbeat arrived at Jack's office, Jack explained the situation. Without hesitation, Heartbeat accepted the mission and left for the West Hollywood Precinct.

West Hollywood Precinct

Heartbeat's arrival wasn't a surprise—SWAT had already been briefed.

Owen knew him, though they had never worked together before. Now, it was clear they were being partnered, with Owen expected to follow Heartbeat's lead.

Heartbeat had no objections. He didn't dislike Owen—in fact, he admired him. But he wasn't one for small talk. His natural calm and quiet demeanor made him seem distant, even though he worked well with others.

Jack's orders were simple: keep Owen in check. If Owen lost control, Heartbeat was to pull him back.

It was an easy job for him.

Meanwhile, ASH received word from the hospital—Zealot had regained consciousness. However, due to his head injury, he needed to rest and was out of the upcoming operations.

ASH wasn't too concerned. They weren't expecting to breach buildings anytime soon, so the team could manage without an explosives specialist. Besides, now they had Heartbeat, a soldier with a military background. He should be more than capable in combat.

At the same time, the FBI sent reinforcements.

Special Agent Farrell, who had taken over the case, deployed Team B to assist Team A in the upcoming operations. The two teams had worked together before and had solid coordination.

There had been suggestions to let the local police handle the prisoner transfer, but Farrell rejected that idea outright. The FBI didn't trust anyone but their own.

Additionally, several FBI agents were dispatched to oversee the transfer of Alex Montel to FBI headquarters.

The plan?

Air transport.

A helicopter would arrive shortly to extract Montel—fast, efficient, and less vulnerable than a ground convoy.

Chief Javier was relieved upon hearing this.

Alex Montel was like a ticking time bomb—he could explode at any moment.

Javier didn't need an intelligence report to know that dozens of eyes were already watching the precinct. The last thing he wanted was a cartel hit squad storming in to massacre the station.

"ASH, you guys are all over national TV! Every channel!"

As soon as Bruce, the leader of Team B, arrived, he started teasing.

Team A and Team B had worked together multiple times, often as training opponents, and had built a friendly rivalry.

"So, Bruce, just don't screw up today," ASH shot back.

"Hah! Not a chance! Team B is full of top-tier talent. We're America's finest."

Bruce grinned smugly—he had every reason to be proud.

His six-man team included a former Navy SEAL and an ex-Delta Force operator—the two most elite special forces units in the U.S. military. No wonder he was so confident.

ASH rolled her eyes.

As a former Nightingale, she never understood the hype around SEALs and Delta. They were famous, sure—but overrated in her opinion.

Bruce loved seeing ASH get irritated. But with Monica and Owen on her team, he knew better than to push too hard. So, he switched topics.

"Oh, almost forgot—Farrell sent us some goodies. Come check this out."

They followed Bruce to the parking garage. He popped the trunk, revealing a treasure trove of ammunition and equipment—including grenades.

Their personal gear had also been delivered, allowing them to fully rearm.

Previously, due to vehicle restrictions, they had only been able to carry minimal gear, which had made the last fight frustrating as hell.

Owen ran his hand over the grenades—they were all defensive types, something they hadn't been able to use earlier.

"Hah! With this stuff, I'm unstoppable again!"

Morris laughed loudly. He was the happiest among them—his heavy gear had finally arrived.

Since the next mission likely wouldn't be CQB, his beloved ballistic shield wouldn't be useful. But his heavy body armor? Definitely coming in handy.

Everyone eagerly resupplied their ammo and replaced damaged gear.

Heartbeat joined them, scanning the equipment. His eyes landed on a Benelli M1014 in the back of the truck.

His eyes lit up.

He had only brought a sidearm, leaving his shotgun behind. But if things got messy, he'd need a reliable weapon.

"This one's mine," he said, picking up the M1014 and looking at the SWAT team.

Nobody objected.

It was curious, though—why did this Air Force brat love the M1014 so much?

The M1014, officially called the Benelli M4 Super 90, was a combat shotgun developed for the U.S. military. It was primarily issued to Marine Corps units, though it hadn't been widely adopted by other branches yet.

However, SWAT teams loved it.

They typically carried two types of shotguns:

Remington M870 – Used for breaching doors. Benelli M4 (M1014) – Used in combat.

ASH gave Heartbeat a nod. "It's yours."

Normally, Zealot used the M1014, but since he was still in the hospital, Heartbeat was the perfect replacement.

Bruce, curious about Heartbeat, observed him closely.

The guy wore military fatigues, a tan tactical jacket, aviator sunglasses, and even had a Mohawk haircut. He looked like someone who didn't give a damn about anything.

But if ASH had no problem with him, Bruce wouldn't question it. The gear was theirs anyway.

As they prepped their equipment, an FBI agent arrived.

"In twenty minutes, the helicopter will be here. We need to be ready to move Montel ASAP."

Javier, upon hearing the update, immediately cleared out a landing zone for the aircraft.

Since the West Hollywood Precinct was only a three-story building, its rooftop couldn't support helicopter landings.

Nearby skyscrapers had helipads, but they were privately owned—the police had no jurisdiction over them.

For security, Javier ordered officers to secure the surrounding area, ensuring nobody tried to sabotage the extraction.

"WHUP WHUP WHUP WHUP WHUP—"

Exactly twenty minutes later, the helicopter appeared on the horizon.

The FBI had sent a Robinson R44, one of the most advanced law enforcement helicopters in the country.
