Chapter 601: Identifying Ruth finally.
Another group of criminals was brought it in, and seeing the familiar faces made people gasps or shake their heads in disbelief. They could not believe how they had lived with these people and never noticed anything about what they were doing.
Those that had held suspicions about their weird behavior could not believe that it was demon related, not affairs or corruption like they had suspected.
Their parents cried and sniffed, comforted by other loved ones and too afraid to plead for the judges to be lenient because they did not want to be suspected for no reason.
As the trial proceeded, Phoebe got a call from Shark, she left the hall to answer it as she had found a message on her phone in the morning informing her that the witch had been captured but Shark had been shot.
"I heard you were shot by a bullet from your own gun. Will you be hunting supernatural creatures anymore or have you learnt your lesson?" Was the greeting Phoebe gave to him the moment she answered the call.
"Uhm...." Shark let out a laugh, one of unease. "First of all, I am fine, thank you so much for asking about my fragile health." he said sarcastically.
"Shark! Not now." Phoebe cut him off. "If you were gravely injured, Claire would have told me. Now cut the theatrics and tell me why you called because it is not a good time."
"Fine__fine, it's about the Eliza Grant." He paused, more like he hesitated.
Massaging her neck, Phoebe automatically believed that it was bad news. "Is she dead?" She asked, her voice was low. She even covered a side of her mouth as if she was worried that the six enforcers that were looking at her were eavesdropping on her conversation.
"No, she is alive and vibrant, and her business is even back on track, but I saw her husband at the hospital last night when I was being patched up and I could tell that something was off about him." He told her. "Are you interested in looking under that messy hood?"
With an absent scratch on her nose, Phoebe decided that it was none of her concern. "If he looked off then perhaps, he is sick and that is why he was at the hospital. Not everyone is suffering from a ghost related problem Shark. In this case, it is the wife with a ghost problem not the husband."
"You don't believe that crap, do you?" Shark bellowed.
Phoebe pulled the phone away, glared at it like it had personally offended her, then huffed and resumed the call only to hear Shark still talking.
"I have been around your crazy ass long enough to know that this is not something normal. The man looked pale like a vampire was sucking his blood on a daily basis and just so you know I spoke to him, and he told me that medically he was not sick. The doctors have found nothing wrong with him.
I checked the records and confirmed this for myself, and I spoke to him at length. Noah Grant was distraught Pheebs, the man said he was barely sleeping or eating. His heart is always beating really fast, and he hears voices wherever he is. He thinks that he is going insane despite many psychiatrists saying his tests are normal.
Something is off. I know that you are busy, but can you not spare a minute of your time to check it out?" His words tumbled out in a panicked rush, raw with conviction__every syllable screamed this man will die if we do nothing.
Phoebe waded through her thoughts, Luna had once told her that Eliza seemed different, if it was indeed a possession then Phoebe had to check out the situation and save Eliza with or without her desire to be saved.
"Can you find a day and bring him to the cafe without the knowledge of his wife?" She asked.
"I am a police officer of course I can do that. All I have to do is put him the back of my squad car and drive him to any place I please. I will bring him in today." Shark hung up before Phoebe could change her mind or even tell him that she couldn't make it that day.
Done with the call, Phoebe visited the bathroom. It was as busy as the hall where the trial was ongoing with many ladies gathered in there. As she eased herself in a bathroom stall, snippets of a conversation between two women by a sink in the corner drifted inside__one woman's voice sharpened as she recounted her loathing for someone. Rather than the conversation, it was the voice that caught her attention for it was imprinted in her memory.
"Katherine." Phoebe breathed, listening in on the vile words that came out of her mouth.
"Things have only made a turn for the worse since that skunk appeared, she has another thing coming if she thinks that carrying my brother's bastard child is going to save her from my wrath!" She hissed out insults.
The other female only responded by sneering and cheering Katherine on__adding gasoline to the fire, each of her words a deliberate spark to the blaze. "You are the Katherine Saxon; you need to make this bitch disappear and I can help with that. She is not worthy of him at all; she is not one of us classy hardworking ladies."
"Clarisse, this is why we are friends, I know that we have just met but I feel a powerful connection towards you." Katherine spoke with the sweetest voice, one that Phoebe did not think she had in her.
Finished in the stall, Phoebe shoved the door open with a bang, making the women jump apart like guilty conspirators.
"What the hell!" The other woman glared at Phoebe like she wanted to tear her apart.
Phoebe recognized her immediately, she was Clarisse Taylor, Bradley's daughter. On taking a closer look at her bodily features, she seemed to resemble Ruth even more.
The face may have changed but the body had not. For one, Ruth's left breast was smaller than the right one. She also had a little red mole on the inside of a dip in her collar.
Star gave Phoebe a little kick. "It is her, that worm you put inside her is beckoning like a smoke alarm." She told Phoebe.
Letting out a loud scoff, Phoebe ran her fingers through her hair and calmed herself. "I did not mean to interrupt your plans of getting rid of me, but I would like to see you try." She spun around and walked away, returning to the trial.
She found people outside the hall and realized that the trial had come to an end. Pheobe went in search of her family whom she found with the Saxons discussing what had just happened at the trial.
"Mother, could you help me organize a dinner at the tower tonight?" Phoebe asked Miranda suddenly, taking them all by surprise, if that is what she wanted then she should have done so at the Mayfair manor. "Invite all the Saxons including Margret and her boyfriend plus their daughter." She added.
[Please do not ask anything, you will soon find out why and your brains will explode.]
