In the early stages, leveling up was quite fast. He was already level 3, which was on par with the enforcer trainees and topside academy awakened students. However, in the undercity, this was the bare requirements to have a 'name'. Few could boast the same at his age, and his growth was likely part of the reason why Elizabeth was investing so much resources into him. Jobs, and in the system's words, missions, were not so common.

The [Fiery Snake] was located in the heart of district 77, and to be fair, Greem really lucked out by being taken in by Elizabeth. He had a room - granted, it was more a dormitory than a room, but he still had shelter. Food was given to him on a daily basis and he no longer had to fight for scraps in the streets. In the undercity, ghouls were out to gut you if you were defenseless.

Taking out his sword, Greem started to practice his swordsmanship. His crude weapon had been a gift from Elizabeth upon joining the [Poison Ives]. Though basic, it was sharp and efficient, a weapon he had grown fond of.

*SWOOSH*

Thrust, slash, parry...These were all essential in his way of fighting, a skill he had raised to D-rank. Besides levels, skills were just as essential in a combat. Levels were more representative of your attributes, whereas skills represented your technical efficiency. In other words, someone with a high level but with no skill was akin to a bodybuilder in a cage. He would fare well against a regular opponent, but would get absolutely destroyed by anyone with any distant knowledge of martial arts.

Having a D-rank skill was quite unique, and in the [Poison Ives], Greem doubted anyone had one. It was rare enough to possess a skill, much less grow so proficient in it to get on a level of a professional mercenary or enforcer.

From a distance, Elise was watching him, though Greem had not noticed.

'He is training again...', she analysed, unable to process the growing figure in their little gang.

At first, she had been against the arrival of a newcomer. Three 'undercity rats' had joined the [Poison Ives] in the last two years, each dying one after the other. The missions they received were never easy, and the newcomers' survival rate was low. That's why she had grown distant to the others. She expected them to die.

Braum was strong and durable, but he was dumb and it would be the end of him.

Leon was too selfish and was untrustworthy. There was one chance out of two he would die by her blade after betraying the Poison Ives.

Bertha was too reckless, always taking the brute force route whereas there was a simpler solution.

But Greem...He was unbelievably weak at first. But now, as she observed him, she felt like she could not see through his decisive footwork and swordplay. He had grown into a decent, no, an extraordinary warrior in weeks. He was also a bit of a genius when it came to strategies, and he was the right amount of greedy.

'No wonder Mother gave him a personal job...', she thought

After one and half an hour, Greem was drenched in sweat, but grinned like a villain.

[You have completed a cycle of training]

[Your proficiency in [Short Sword Mastery] increases by one point]

Looking at his status page, it was a priceless victory.
