Reborn: A Second Chance Through Time

Chapter 8: CHAPTER 7: NEWYORK

Chapter 7

Lily's day started early. The modeling agency had called with exciting news—she had been shortlisted for the casting of New York Fashion Week. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and Lily was determined not to let it interfere with her studies. She spent the week finishing all her pending assignments, taking early exams, and requesting a leave of absence from school. Despite her meticulous preparation, Lily couldn't shake the nervous excitement bubbling within her. In her previous life, she had never imagined she'd become a model after being reborn.

Lisa, her mom, decided to quit her job to help Lily manage her art business and support her modeling career. As they drove to New York together, Lisa couldn't help but reflect on how their lives had transformed in just five months. Not long ago, they had been struggling to make ends meet, with most of their money going toward Lily's private school tuition. Lisa had insisted on the private school because she believed it would give Lily a better chance of getting into an Ivy League college. Now, with Lily's modeling career taking off and her art business thriving, their financial worries seemed like a distant memory.

While driving, the two talked about Lily's childhood. "I can't believe my shy little girl is now a model," Lisa said, glancing at her daughter with a mix of pride and disbelief.

Lily laughed. "Life is too short, Mom. Might as well enjoy it and step out of my comfort zone."

Lisa smiled warmly. "You've grown so much, Lily. I'm so proud of you."

After arriving in New York, Lisa suggested they do some sightseeing since the casting wasn't until the next day. They visited Central Park, where the golden leaves of fall painted the landscape, and Times Square, with its dazzling lights and endless bustle. Lily stood in the middle of Times Square, soaking in the energy of the city that never slept.

"It feels good to be back," Lily murmured.

Lisa looked at her curiously. "Back?"

Lily hesitated for a moment. "In another life, I lived here during college. New York felt like home for a long time. Coming back now brings back so many memories."

Lisa looked at her weirdly but didn't press further. Instead, they enjoyed the sights, taking pictures and sharing laughter.

The next morning, Lily arrived at the casting venue early. The large hall was bustling with models, stylists, and casting directors. As she waited for her turn, she noticed a mix of nerves and excitement in the air. When her name was called, she stepped into the casting room where a panel of directors and designers waited.

"Lily Rivera, is it?" one of the casting directors asked, flipping through her portfolio.

"Yes, sir," Lily replied confidently, though her heart raced.

The director, a tall man with silver-streaked hair, looked at her closely. "Your photos are stunning. But we're more interested in how you walk. Show us your catwalk."

Lily nodded and walked the makeshift runway with poise. She remembered every tip she'd received during her training—chin up, shoulders back, and exude confidence.

When she finished, one of the designers leaned forward. "Your walk is exceptional, and you have a unique look. Tell me, why do you want to model?"

Lily thought carefully before answering. "Modeling allows me to express myself and step out of my comfort zone. It's a platform to inspire others to chase their dreams, no matter how unconventional they may seem."

The panel exchanged impressed glances before the director said, "We'll be in touch."

Later that evening, Lily received a call from her agent. She had been selected by five famous brands and five mid-tier brands, booking her for a total of ten shows. Overwhelmed but excited, she shared the news with her mom.

"Ten shows?" Lisa exclaimed. "That's incredible, but are you sure you can handle it?"

"It'll be tiring, but I'm ready," Lily said with determination.

The next few days were a whirlwind of fittings and rehearsals. Each day brought a new set of challenges, from perfecting her walk for different shows to adapting to the unique themes of each brand. Despite the long hours, Lily found the experience fulfilling.

At night, she video-called her friends Leah and Anna. "How's the glamorous life treating you?" Leah teased.

Lily laughed. "It's exhausting but amazing. I've learned so much in just a few days."

Anna grinned. "We're so proud of you, Lily. Just don't forget about us when you're a supermodel."

"Never," Lily promised.

Later, she received a message from Noah: I miss you. Good luck in Fashion Week. Enjoy every moment.

Smiling, Lily replied: Thank you, Noah. That means a lot.

By the end of Fashion Week, Lily had walked in ten shows, each one a dazzling spectacle of lights, music, and artistry. Her mom watched every show with pride, cheering her on from the audience. Though Lily was exhausted, she felt an immense sense of accomplishment.

After the final show, Lisa hugged her tightly. "You were amazing, sweetheart. I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks, Mom," Lily said, her voice filled with gratitude. "I couldn't have done this without you."

With Fashion Week behind them, Lily and her mom spent a few days exploring New York. They visited the Statue of Liberty, took a stroll along the Brooklyn Bridge, and enjoyed a Broadway show. As they stood at the top of the Empire State Building, looking out over the glittering city, Lily felt a deep sense of contentment.

"New York is magical," Lisa said.

Lily nodded. "It really is. But it's even more special because I get to share it with you."

Lisa smiled, her eyes misty. "No matter where life takes you, Lily, always remember where you came from."

"I will, Mom," Lily said, hugging her tightly. For the first time in a long time, she felt at peace with her past and excited for her future.
