Reborn: A Second Chance Through Time

Chapter 6: CHAPTER 5: EMMA

As the days progressed, Lily continued to thrive. Her art business flourished, with orders pouring in from clients who admired her unique talent. Though she never ventured into stock trading again, she had learned her lesson from the one-time gamble—it was a risky endeavor, and she knew better now than to take such chances. Instead, she focused on her passions, putting all her energy into her art and exploring new opportunities.

One of those opportunities came unexpectedly when Lily was invited to her first modeling gig. Her debut was a dazzling event for none other than Gucci. The runway was a kaleidoscope of lights, bold designs, and an audience filled with the fashion elite. Lily walked with confidence, wearing an avant-garde outfit that turned heads and drew applause. Shortly after, Fendi reached out, and she graced their show with equal poise, this time in a sleek, contemporary collection that showcased her versatility as a model.

Despite her growing success, Lily stayed grounded, balancing her career with high school life. She hung out with her friends, kept up with her studies, and spent time with Noah. Yet, something about her relationship with Noah had shifted.

In the past, she had clung to him—afraid to be away from her anchor, the person who had been her rock since they were ten years old. Maybe that's why Emma, Noah's girlfriend, had started to loathe her. Lily couldn't entirely blame Emma. When Noah first introduced her to Emma, she seemed kind and polite, but no girlfriend would want a best friend constantly hovering over her boyfriend.

Realizing this, Lily began to reflect. "Did I mistake Noah's kindness for something more?" she thought. He had been there for her through everything—protecting her from bullies in elementary school, comforting her after her father's passing, and encouraging her dreams. But perhaps she had leaned on him too much, turning him into her world when he was only trying to be a good friend.

Her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was Noah.

"Hey, Lily! Emma wants to meet you," he said, his tone upbeat.

"Oh? Sure," Lily replied, though her heart skipped a beat. "Where?"

"The cafe outside the school. Can you come now?"

"Alright. See you there."

Lily grabbed her bag and made her way to the cafe. When she arrived, she saw Noah waving her over to their table. Emma sat beside him, her golden hair catching the sunlight streaming through the window.

"Lily, this is Emma," Noah said, smiling. "And Emma, this is Lily, my best friend."

Lily extended her hand. "Hi, Emma. It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."

Emma shook her hand warmly. "Same here. Noah talks about you all the time."

Lily laughed. "Hopefully, only the good things."

"Mostly," Emma joked, her eyes sparkling.

Lily took a deep breath, deciding to lighten the mood. "So, Emma, how did Noah manage to win someone as gorgeous as you?"

Emma laughed, and even Noah chuckled. "Oh, trust me, it wasn't easy," Emma said playfully. "He had to work for it."

The three of them talked for a while, exchanging stories and laughs. It felt good, and to Lily's surprise, she felt no bitterness. Instead, she felt a sense of closure.

When her phone buzzed again, it was Anna, reminding her about their study session. "I have to go," Lily said, standing up. "Anna and the others are waiting for me at the library. We have an exam tomorrow."

"Already?" Noah pouted. "You're abandoning me?"

Lily rolled her eyes. "Stop being dramatic. You have Emma now to keep you company."

Emma laughed. "He'll survive."

Lily waved goodbye and headed to the library. When she arrived, Anna looked up. "Where were you? You missed lunch!"

"I was with Noah. He introduced me to Emma," Lily explained as she sat down.

Leah's eyes widened. "Emma Carter? The golden girl? Captain of the cheerleading squad?"

Lily nodded, smiling. "Yep. That Emma."

"Are you okay with their relationship?" Anna asked cautiously.

Lily laughed softly. "Of course. Emma makes Noah happy, and I'm grateful for her. She loves him, and he deserves someone who can make him that happy."

For the first time, Lily felt genuine peace. The love she had held onto so tightly for Noah had finally faded, replaced by a sense of contentment. She realized there was no need for revenge or resentment. Noah had the right to make his choices, and Emma wasn't a villain—she was just a girl protecting what she loved.

After the study session, Lily went home. Her mom was in the kitchen, cooking dinner. The smell of roasted chicken filled the air.

"What's for dinner?" Lily asked, dropping her bag by the door.

"Chicken," her mom replied, smiling as she stirred the pot.

Lily walked over and kissed her on the cheek. "Smells amazing."

Her mom glanced at her. "How was school? And how's your art business?"

"School was fine. The art business is still going strong," Lily said as she grabbed a glass of water. "Oh, and I'm going to keep modeling, too. But, Mom, you really don't have to work so hard. I can help now."

Her mom smiled gently. "Let me take care of you, Lily. That's my job as your mom."

Lily's eyes welled up with tears. She hugged her mom tightly. "I love you so much, Mom. You're my world."

Her mind flashed back to when she lost her mom in the other timeline. She remembered the crushing grief, how she had refused to eat or drink, and how it had sent her spiraling.

"I'm so glad you're here," Lily whispered.

Her mom hugged her back. "I'll always be here for you, sweetheart."

That night, as Lily lay in bed, she reflected on her journey so far. She had lost so much in her previous life—her parents, Noah, and even herself. But this time, she was determined to cherish every moment and every person in her life. For the first time in a long time, she felt hopeful.
