Reborn: A Second Chance Through Time

Chapter 14: CHAPTER 13: LA

Lily woke up early on Friday morning, her alarm buzzing with a soft chime that pulled her from sleep. She stretched, feeling the excitement bubbling under her skin. Today was her photoshoot day, and she had arranged to take a leave from school. As always, Lily made sure to finish all her assignments and quizzes beforehand. Her teachers, familiar with her dedication as an A-student, were accommodating, knowing that Lily balanced her academic life with her blossoming modeling career.

After a quick breakfast, Lily and her mom, Lisa, headed to the airport. The drive through their city felt quiet, but the moment they arrived at the bustling terminal, the energy shifted. They were on their way to Los Angeles, a city that was always alive with motion and creativity. Lily had been chosen to model for a trendy bag and clothing brand adored by her generation—a dream opportunity, especially since she was a fan of their designs. Even though she modeled for big-name brands, she still loved thrifty finds and had a soft spot for the styles she'd grown up wearing. Most of her luxury items were gifts from the brands she worked with.

When their plane touched down at LAX, the sprawling city welcomed them with its iconic mix of palm trees, urban skyscrapers, and sunlit streets. The air carried a hint of salt from the nearby ocean, mingling with the smell of car exhaust and city life. Lily looked out of the taxi window as they drove to their hotel, marveling at the vibrant billboards and the endless energy of Los Angeles.

Once they checked in, Lisa suggested they rest before heading to the studio for the afternoon shoot. The hotel room was sleek and modern, with large windows offering a view of the busy streets below. Lily lay on the bed for a moment, collecting her thoughts before getting ready.

At the studio, the atmosphere was buzzing. Bright lights illuminated the space, and racks of clothes lined the walls, each piece meticulously organized. The stylist greeted Lily with a cheerful smile, ushering her to a chair where her hair and makeup would be done. The photographer, a charismatic woman named Maya, introduced herself warmly.

"Lily, it's so great to meet you," Maya said, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "I've heard amazing things about you."

"Thank you," Lily replied, her voice modest but grateful. "I'm really excited to work with you."

The team was lively, their energy contagious. As Lily posed for the camera, Maya encouraged her with instructions.

"That's perfect! Tilt your head slightly—yes, just like that. You're a natural," Maya said, snapping away.

During a break, Maya struck up a conversation. "So, Lily, how do you balance school and modeling? You make it look so effortless."

Lily chuckled, taking a sip of water. "It's not always easy, but I've learned to manage my time well. Plus, I love both, so it doesn't feel like a chore."

"That's impressive," Maya said. "Not many young people can juggle so much and still keep their heads on straight. You've got a bright future ahead of you."

Lily felt her cheeks warm at the compliment. The rest of the shoot continued smoothly, with the team praising her professionalism and grace. By the end of the day, she was tired but fulfilled.

Back at the hotel, Lily flopped onto the bed, her muscles aching. She grabbed her phone and noticed a message from Nathan.

Nathan: "Hey, I didn't see you at school today. Everything okay?"

Lily smiled at the message and replied.

Lily: "Hey, yeah, I had to take the day off for a photoshoot."

Nathan: "A photoshoot? That's cool. What was it for?"

Lily: "A clothing and bag brand. It was really fun but exhausting."

Nathan: "Sounds like a busy day. You're really passionate about what you do, huh?"

Lily: "Yeah, I guess I am. It's nice to create something and be part of something bigger."

Nathan's next message came quickly.

Nathan: "That's inspiring. Most people wouldn't understand the effort it takes. It's cool that you're so driven."

Lily found herself smiling again. Despite what Anna and Leah had said, Nathan didn't seem antisocial or distant. He was thoughtful, kind, and surprisingly easy to talk to.

Later, as Lily was editing a behind-the-scenes post for Instagram, Lisa walked in with takeout. They sat together at the small dining table in their hotel room, the smell of warm noodles and dumplings filling the air.

Lisa looked at her daughter thoughtfully. "So, who's the boy I saw you talking to at school?"

Lily nearly choked on her food. "What? Boy? There's no boy."

Lisa smirked, clearly unconvinced. "Come on, Lily. You were blushing when I mentioned it. Do you like him?"

Lily stammered, her face heating. "N-No! It's not like that. He's just… a friend."

Lisa raised an eyebrow. "And what about Noah? You've liked him for so long."

At the mention of Noah, Lily's face fell. She poked at her food, her voice quieter. "Mom, Noah has a girlfriend. I've accepted that we're just friends."

Lisa's expression softened. She reached out and squeezed Lily's hand. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. That must be hard."

Lily shook her head, offering a small smile. "It's okay, really. I'm fine."

Lisa pulled her daughter into a hug, holding her tightly. "You deserve someone who sees how amazing you are, Lily. Don't settle for less."

Lily felt a lump in her throat but nodded. After they finished eating, she posted the behind-the-scenes pictures, the likes and comments flooding in almost instantly. Her follower count had surpassed 100k, and people were starting to recognize her on the streets. It was overwhelming but thrilling, and for a moment, she let herself feel proud of how far she'd come.

As she lay in bed that night, her phone buzzed again. It was Nathan.

Nathan: "I hope you're resting after such a long day."

Lily: "I am. Thanks for checking in."

Nathan: "Good. Sleep well, Lily."

Her heart fluttered as she stared at his message. Maybe, just maybe, Nathan Carter wasn't as unreachable as everyone thought.
