Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Good News
Chapter 64: Good News
Liu Kaisheng and Li Tang boarded a plane back to Yanjing, carrying all the project documentation with them.
Their mission this time was clear: to deliver the good news directly to the company's top leadership.
At that moment, Qin Jianshe was sitting in his office deep in thought, his brows furrowed.
Lately, it had become increasingly obvious that Zhou Tianqi was targeting him. Just a few days ago, Qin had gone to inspect the newly built bioleaching copper refinery at the Demen Copper Mine—a business trip, by any measure.
Business trips came with stipends. Even for executives, this wasn't considered inappropriate.
As a vice general manager, his per diem was ten yuan a day.
He personally brought the reimbursement form to Zhou Tianqi's office, only to be interrogated for over ten minutes. In the end, Zhou told him he needed to claim the stipend from the Mining & Metallurgy Company instead.
Five days of travel—that's just fifty yuan. Qin didn't even want to bother with it anymore. The whole ordeal had left him fuming.
Just then, he heard a knock at the door and looked up to see Li Tang and Liu Kaisheng walk in, carrying two large, heavy bags.
Seeing the two of them immediately lifted his spirits. "You're back! How's the project going in Tibet?"
He knew full well that working conditions in Tibet were far worse than in Yanjing, and had deep respect for those out doing fieldwork. His tone was warm and welcoming.
"Everything's going great," Liu Kaisheng panted as he spoke, then placed the two heavy bags on the table with a loud thud.
"What's all this?" Qin stood up, curious, and peeked into one of the bags—inside was stack after stack of documents.
"Project data. We brought a copy back with us," Liu said, still catching his breath.
"Come on, have some tea and catch your breath." Qin quickly poured tea for the two of them.
After a few sips, he asked, "So much documentation—did something go wrong?"
"Li Tang should explain. He understands the technical side better than I do," Liu said, handing the spotlight to Li Tang.
Li Tang nodded, set his teacup down, and calmly said, "The preliminary exploration has successfully achieved its objective."
"Oh?" Qin's eyes lit up. So they were here to deliver good news!
His earlier bad mood vanished in an instant.
"Based on the data collected so far, the mineralization within 300 meters of the three ore bodies has been more or less mapped out."
Li Tang pulled out a handwritten report—his father's work—and opened it. "According to current estimates, the project area contains 2 million tons of copper metal, 100,000 tons of molybdenum, and associated gold, silver, and other metals. Based on current domestic market prices, the total resource value exceeds 45 billion yuan."
"How much?!" Qin was stunned.
He had visited the project site several times and knew the drill holes were consistently hitting ore. But to now hear that the resource estimate had hit 2 million tons of copper—it was still astonishing.
This was a size not seen in China in years.
Li Tang glanced down at the firm, bold handwriting on the report and confirmed again, "Current estimated copper reserves: 2 million tons. Projected resource potential: over 10 million tons."
"Let me see that!" Qin snatched up the handwritten report and read it word for word.
As he studied the data, the expression on his face gradually transformed into something utterly glowing with joy.
After about ten minutes, he looked up and said something completely unrelated to the data: "Your dad's handwriting is the best in our entire graduating class! I swear—even back then, our professors said he had leader-worthy penmanship. His signature looked fantastic."
"I agree with President Qin," Liu added quickly. "Chief Engineer Li's calligraphy is really something."
Li Tang just smiled.
"Come on, both of you—let's go report this to the leadership immediately!" Qin picked up the bags of documents himself and headed for the door.
"President Qin, let me carry them. I'm not tired," Liu offered.
"You've had a hard journey—let me," Qin insisted, not letting go.
Right now, what he was holding wasn't just paperwork—it was a symbol of monumental achievement.
Under Qin's lead, they climbed the stairs toward the executive offices.
"President Qin, aren't we reporting this to President Zhou?" Liu asked.
Qin paused mid-step, then resolutely continued upward. "This project technically belongs to the Mining & Metallurgy Company. We're just providing technical support. We'll report directly to them."
Just as they reached the office of the Mining & Metallurgy Company's general manager, they heard laughter inside.
Zhao Hepu was roaring with laughter, his body shaking, causing his chubby face to ripple.
He looked up and saw them entering and quickly stood up. "You're back! Come, have some tea! A friend of mine just returned from a trip and brought me some century-old tree tea—it's amazing!"
"No tea. Come with us—we need to see Director Ou," Qin said seriously.
Zhao was startled, thinking something had gone wrong with the Tibet project. He quickly followed them, his large legs stumbling a bit, sweat beading on his forehead.
He glanced nervously at Li Tang and gave him a weak smile.
Li Tang smiled back and nodded.
When they reached the top floor and entered Ou Pingguo's office, the door was open, but no one was inside.
They checked the adjacent office and were told that Ou was in a meeting with General Manager Niu Fu—likely in the general manager's office.
They carried their bags full of documents to the general manager's office.
The door was open, and voices could be heard from inside. Qin peeked in and saw Niu Fu discussing something with several vice presidents.
They waited in the lounge across from the office for about half an hour before a secretary came and informed them they could now enter.
As the vice presidents left one after another, Ou Pingguo noticed Qin and Zhao entering together and stayed behind in the office.
"Please, sit," Niu Fu gestured toward the meeting area. Once everyone was seated and tea was served, he spoke. "Apologies for the delay. That meeting went longer than expected."
Seeing Zhao's sweaty face, Ou Pingguo felt a pang of anxiety. Was there a crisis?
He scanned the faces of Qin, Li Tang, and Liu Kaisheng, clearly trying to read their expressions.
"What's going on? Report directly to General Manager Niu," he said, suppressing his unease.
Qin placed the bags of documents on the floor and was about to speak when he realized he wasn't the best person to explain the details.
He turned to Li Tang with a smile. "Li Tang, why don't you brief the leadership?"
