Chapter 617 Absorbing Chaos Qi (14th update! Will post two more updates later tonight, let's go all out!)
"I agree to become your contract spiritual beast, but I demand to sign an equal contract, just like my big brother. I acknowledge you as the boss!"
Dragon Scorpion agreed to sign a contract to become Sun Wukong's spiritual beast, but stipulated its own condition, insisting on an equal contract over a servant-master agreement. After all, unlike a servant-master contract, Dragon Scorpion could continue to survive even if something happened to Sun Wukong.
"Okay, no problem, I, Old Sun, accept your terms!"
Sun Wukong nodded. He hadn't intended to have Dragon Scorpion sign a servant-master contract anyway. An equal contract was sufficient for a spiritual beast partner who simply aided him when needed.
Without further hesitation, Dragon Scorpion promptly signed an equal contract with Sun Wukong, becoming his second true contractual spiritual beast. Sun Wukong had previously formed a contract with Candle Dragon Ao Tian as well, but after helping Ao Tian merge with the Ancestral Dragon's physical body, he had released the contract's restrictions. Now, apart from Dragon Cat, he had no other company. It seemed he had gained another companion.
While Dragon Scorpion and Sun Wukong signing an equal contract should have made Sun Wukong happiest, Dragon Cat was actually the most delighted. Puffing up its chubby belly, it started to lecture Dragon Scorpion like an old boss teaching a young underling, spouting all sorts of advice like listening to the boss's words, helping the boss a lot, being anxious about what the boss is anxious about, and thinking about what the boss thinks about. The list went on and on, with Dragon Cat pompously claiming that's how it operated, much to Sun Wukong's eye-rolling amusement.
This fellow, on regular days, did nothing but eat and sleep; when it really came down to it, Sun Wukong himself had to drag it out of the replica Qiankun Bag to get any help at all. Where was this so-called efficiency it was boasting about now?
However, Sun Wukong did not expose Dragon Cat's tall tales. After all, Dragon Cat's words benefited him, and hadn't Dragon Scorpion been sweet-talked into a daze? Even if Dragon Scorpion later found out that things weren't as presented, it didn't matter. Blame could be conveniently shifted onto Dragon Cat, as, after all, Sun Wukong had never said any such things.
"Dragon Scorpion, you mentioned earlier that you were the emperor of this island. Besides you, what other formidable beings reside on this floating island?"
After signing the equal contract, Sun Wukong helped Dragon Scorpion recover from its injuries before inquiring about the occupants of the floating island.
"Formidable beings? There's a Fire-Winged Bird that's quite powerful, just a hair less so than me," replied Dragon Scorpion, expressing a hint of frustration on its face, "Hmph, that guy relies on its ability to fly, always taking to the skies to launch attacks whenever there's trouble. Otherwise, it would have been dealt with by me long ago!"
"Hold on, what did you just say? The opponent takes to the sky to launch attacks, and you can't deal with it? Don't tell me, Old Sun, that you can't fly!"
Sun Wukong interrupted Dragon Scorpion, looking at it in utter astonishment.
Dragon Scorpion nodded as if it were obvious: "I don't have wings, so, of course, I can't fly."
"Who the hell told you that you need wings to fly?"
Sun Wukong felt an urge to facepalm—this guy was a true talent! To think that he had reached the Half-Step Saint Realm and yet didn't even know the most basic skill of flying!
"Dragon Cat, this is your little brother. I'm leaving him to your training. Don't show your face to Old Sun again if you can't teach him properly!"
Sun Wukong couldn't be bothered to ask the Dragon Scorpion about the situation of the Chaos Vortex anymore. A creature that couldn't even fly, he figured, must never have left this Floating Island from the time of its birth. Asking would be pointless, so he might as well explore on his own!
Waving his hand, Sun Wukong wrapped Divine Sense around Dragon Cat and Dragon Scorpion, tucking both into a replica Qiankun Bag, leaving them to their own devices. He trusted that Dragon Cat would teach Dragon Scorpion these basic common senses properly.
After tucking away Dragon Cat and Dragon Scorpion, Sun Wukong drew a circle on the ground with his Ruyi Golden-Hooped Rod, setting up a Barrier, and sat down cross-legged within it, the rod floating before him as he started to cultivate his Eight-Nine Mysterious Power.
In the previous fight with Dragon Scorpion, Sun Wukong's consumption was not small, especially since most of his Chaos Primordial Force was used to resist the toxins that invaded his body when he was hit by the Scorpion Tail Sting. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been possible to seal the potent poison within his arm, preventing it from spreading into his body.
However, Sun Wukong wasn't without gains, as he constantly absorbed the surrounding nature's spiritual energy during the intense battle to replenish his Chaos Primordial Force. Sun Wukong discovered that the Chaos Qi inside the Chaos Vortex was far superior to the external world's spiritual energy, at least for him.
While absorbing the Chaos Qi, Sun Wukong could clearly feel a small amount of Chaos Principle Power being drawn into his body. It was much easier to condense Chaos Principle Power in the Chaos Vortex than in the outside world. Sun Wukong believed that as long as he continually cultivated and absorbed Chaos Qi this way, he could keep absorbing Chaos Principle Power, and the pillar of the Chaos Dao would eventually solidify!
Taking advantage of this opportunity to restore his Chaos Primordial Force, Sun Wukong wanted to test just how much Chaos Principle Power was floating in the Chaos Qi above this island!
With the full activation of the Eight-Nine Profound Skill, the whole island seemed to form a Spiritual Energy Vortex, with the Chaos Qi converging towards Sun Wukong from all directions, entering his body through the pores all over him. Along with it, strands of the Law Power merged into him, and an illusion of the Heaven-Piercing Great Dao emerged behind him.
It was indeed the pillar of the Chaos Dao!
Yet, the current pillar of the Chaos Dao appeared too ethereal compared to the fully formed Great Dao of Reincarnation pillar, seeming utterly transparent. Sun Wukong had just started to condense the pillar of the Chaos Dao, having only formed an illusion. He still needed to absorb a great deal of Chaos Principle Power and comprehend it before he could successfully solidify it.
Sun Wukong's actions caused a huge uproar on the Floating Island, as the native creatures living there were all disturbed. Those capable of flying fled the island, following their instinct to seek benefit and avoid harm. Those creatures that couldn't fly had no choice but to shrink into the corners of the island, trembling as they witnessed this apocalyptic scene, where Sun Wukong was nearly extracting all the Chaos Spiritual Qi of the entire island. This predatory form of absorption terrified all the other creatures, as they had never encountered such a situation before.
"What kind of demon has come to target our island?"
Of course, among these creatures, there were some that were brave, with the Fire-Winged Bird taking the lead. Initially, like the other flying creatures, it had left the island, but then, after having second thoughts, it flew back and headed towards the direction of the Spiritual Energy Vortex.
