Chapter 124: Chapter 124 - Fish!

The terrain of the Ice Field was made up of massive icebergs stacked next to one another, forming jagged cliffs and steep drops.

Below those cliffs lay the deep, dark ocean. White jade cabbage typically grew along the edges of these cliffs, while the white caviar and dream tuna were found in the waters beneath. Their goal was clear, they needed to find a gap between the icebergs where they could access both the cliffs and the sea.

The landscape was eerily empty. Aside from the three of them, there wasn't a single sign of life. Unlike the other regions, the Ice Field had very few land-dwelling creatures.

Nearly all the key ingredients were hidden below the ocean's surface, making the icebergs themselves feel desolate. There wasn't even a trace of the other contestants—most of them were likely still gathering ingredients in the earlier zones.

Thanks to their swift journey on Dragonite and Arcanine, Larry and Menchi had managed to reach this final stage ahead of everyone else. While it had taken considerable time to collect ingredients along the way, their haul was massive.

Despite the competition, they were still in first place by a significant margin.

After an extensive search, Arcanine finally found a gap between the towering icebergs. Standing proudly at the cliff's edge, it let the icy wind blow through its thick fur, looking both powerful and majestic. It was a legendary Pokémon, after all—one that had captured the admiration of trainers worldwide. Its striking appearance only added to its reputation.

Across the gap, on the opposite cliff, two crystal-clear vegetables hung near the edge, dusted with delicate snowflakes. From a distance, they resembled finely sculpted white jade, carved into the shape of cabbages by an expert artisan.

"The texture is just like polished jade… This has to be white jade cabbage," Menchi murmured, taking a closer look.

Even as she spoke, her breath came out in visible puffs of warm air, a stark reminder of the freezing environment around them.

"Alright, once we collect the white jade cabbage, we can head down to the bottom of the cliff," Larry said, peering over the edge. Below them, the ocean stretched out in an endless abyss, dark and unfathomable. Anything could be lurking beneath the surface, waiting to strike at any moment.

It was then that Larry suddenly realized a problem—he didn't have a single water-type Pokémon.

His current team was well-rounded in many ways. He had powerful fighters, versatile support Pokémon, and ones that excelled at disrupting enemies. He had Pokémon for both land and air travel. But when it came to traversing water? Nothing.

That was definitely going to be a problem in ocean-based terrains like this. It looked like he'd have to plan a trip to some well-known oceanic regions in the future and capture a solid water-type companion. Without one, traveling across large bodies of water was going to be a major hassle.

For now, if he absolutely had to choose, Dragonite would be his best bet. Technically, Dragonite could swim—it wasn't ideal, but it would do in a pinch. Its earlier evolutionary stages, Dratini and Dragonair, were both water-dwelling Pokémon, after all.

As Larry mulled over his options, Arcanine suddenly leaped across the cliff, landing gracefully on the other side. Menchi wasted no time collecting the two white jade cabbages, securing them carefully.

Though they had only found two, these cabbages were quite large—more than enough for now. "If we find more along the way, we'll grab them," she noted. "You can never have too much of an ingredient this good."

With their first target secured, it was time to move on to the next challenge—the deep, frigid ocean below.

With the hunt moving into the ocean, Arcanine was no longer suited for the task, so Larry had it stay behind. Instead, it would serve as a living heater, keeping the area warm for them while they waited.

Next, he released Dragonite, the Pokémon he had just been thinking about. "Roar?" Dragonite let out a curious growl, tilting its head slightly.

"Menchi, tell Dragonite what white caviar and dream tuna look like," Larry said, patting Dragonite on the shoulder. "It'll be in charge of catching them for us."

Menchi hesitated for a moment, watching as Dragonite puffed up its chest confidently.

"Roar!" Dragonite gave its belly a firm slap, causing its round stomach to ripple slightly. Its eyes curved into a happy grin, making it clear that it was up for the challenge.

"Wait… You want Dragonite to go into the ocean?" Menchi asked, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. "But… isn't it a flying dragon? Can it even swim?"

Larry and Dragonite both had the same unwavering expression of confidence. Seeing that, Menchi let go of her doubts.

"Well… I guess it makes sense," she murmured before explaining the appearance of white caviar and dream tuna in detail. She also described their likely habitats, ensuring Dragonite knew exactly where to look.

"Roar~" Dragonite nodded enthusiastically, its chubby face jiggling slightly. It almost looked too soft for a Pokémon about to dive into an icy ocean.

"Alright, go for it. We'll be waiting here," Larry said, patting Dragonite's belly. The texture was surprisingly nice—plush yet firm. He found himself enjoying the feel of it.

With a powerful leap, Dragonite jumped off the cliff and plunged straight into the ocean with a loud plop. The surface rippled from the impact, and just like that, everything went silent.

With nothing else to do, Larry and Menchi leaned against the icy cliffside, waiting patiently for Dragonite's return.

Time passed. Twenty minutes. Then nearly half an hour. Just as the stillness of the sea was starting to feel unsettling, the water suddenly churned. With a burst of power, Dragonite shot up from below, wings flapping as it soared back onto the cliff.

In its left claw, it held a dream tuna, and in its right, a white fish—the source of white caviar. "Roar!" Dragonite let out a triumphant cry, placing both fish down in front of them.

"That's incredible, Dragonite!" Larry grinned, giving it a big thumbs-up. "I knew you could do it. That was fast!"

"It actually pulled it off…" Menchi murmured, still caught off guard by the sight. A flying dragon successfully fishing in the ocean? It was almost surreal.

Still, she quickly knelt down to inspect the catch. The first fish was pure white, resembling a more elegant version of a sturgeon. Its delicate scales shimmered under the cold light, giving it an almost ethereal beauty. This was the whitening fish, the source of white caviar.

The second fish was deep blue, its body covered in a faint iridescent sheen that reflected a spectrum of colors when viewed from different angles. Dream tuna.

Its name wasn't just for show—this fish had a unique property. If not consumed within an hour of death, its entire body would dissolve into bubbles, vanishing into thin air. The sight of those bubbles drifting into the sky had a dreamlike quality, hence the name dream tuna.

Understanding the urgency, Menchi quickly called out, "Gengar, you're up!"
