Chapter 207
Vincent laughed proudly and said, “Mr. Cat, be at ease; the most interesting sights are yet to come.” He gestured to his subordinates in the venue, signalling them to proceed.
The third cage was opened. As the cloth covering it was pulled away, the gasps and exclamations in the room grew louder than before.
Women screamed in alarm.
“Oh my god, what is this?”
“Is that even a person? How can anyone look like this? It’s horrifying!”
“It’s kind of disgusting.”
The room buzzed with chatter.
What appeared in front of everyone this time was a figure with two heads connected at the shoulders. It looked less like a person and more like a grotesque creature. Below their torsos, the lower body resembled an octopus, complete with dozens of soft, writhing tentacles.
Even Chu Muxi felt a twinge of discomfort at the sight, though his reaction was not as extreme as the others. He quickly noticed that not everyone in the room was affected.
Vincent, for one, seemed completely unfazed, as though he had seen such things countless times before. The other exceptions were the pair of men and women seated opposite him. Whether it was the wolf-type beast star, the elegant elf-like man, or this bizarre creature, they remained calm and indifferent. Occasionally, the red-haired woman leaned toward the cold, stoic man to whisper something, but neither of them seemed perturbed.
Christie, sitting beside Chu Muxi, also appeared composed. Perhaps sensing Chu Muxi’s gaze, Christie turned to him and asked, “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Chu Muxi caught Vincent casting a quick glance at the two of them. Hearing Christie’s words, Vincent’s gaze lingered on Chu Muxi’s face for a few seconds.
Chu Muxi realized his expression must have betrayed him; his face likely appeared pale and uneasy. Vincent’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smile, as though satisfied with the reaction he had elicited.
“What kind of beast star is that?” Chu Muxi asked Christie.
Christie shook his head. “I haven’t seen it before.” His gaze shifted to Vincent, who was preoccupied with an intense conversation. Christie’s tone turned cold as he added, “It seems this person’s dealings extend far and wide, and his ambitions are anything but small.”
More aliens were being brought in, and the situation seemed to grow increasingly complex. Chu Muxi frowned, suddenly feeling a gaze settle on him.
He looked up sharply, but the sensation disappeared almost immediately. The glance, fleeting as it was, had felt deliberate.
When he tried to locate its source, he found nothing. Yet, for some reason, his instincts led him to look toward the pair seated across from him.
They weren’t looking at him, but Chu Muxi couldn’t shake the odd feeling that the gaze had come from their direction.
Strange. Why was he so fixated on these two?
“You think there’s something off about them too,” Christie said suddenly.
Chu Muxi raised an eyebrow at him. “You’ve noticed something as well?”
“That red-haired woman—something about her feels… off,” Christie replied, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
“What feels off?” Chu Muxi pressed.
Christie hesitated for a moment, then spoke with certainty. “Her body proportions are wrong, and I’m almost sure she’s wearing a disguise.”
