Chapter 638: Quicksilver's Determination to Win
Compared to the now well-known Doctor Strange, Quicksilver remained very much a background character. Even in the future videos, he barely had any screen time. To most people, his primary identity was simply being Wanda's older brother.
Take the young Peter standing in front of them, for example. Even at his young age, he already knew Doctor Strange, yet he paid no attention to pietro, who had been trying to entertain him.
Stephen Strange didn't dwell on this dynamic. Instead, he forced a gentle smile, the kind used to coax children. "Hey, little guy. Since you already know who I am, that's great. Listen carefully later, okay? Don't do anything unnecessary. Once this game is over, we'll take you home. Deal?"
"Deal!" The young Peter nodded firmly, his small face serious as he declared, "I'm Spider-Man! I'm a superhero too! I'm not afraid, and I'm brave!"
His childlike voice, paired with his solemn expression, only made him look more adorable.
However, pietro frowned at this scene. "Honestly, he shouldn't be exposed to adult matters so early. It's not good for kids to grow up too fast. His family isn't trying to train him to be Spider-Man already, are they?"
Stephen Strange shook his head. "From what I've heard, his Aunt May is a wonderful person, much better at taking care of kids than we are. But the little guy's situation is complicated. Everyone knows he's destined to become Spider-Man. Whether it's leaving the house, going to school, or even making friends... he can no longer live a normal childhood."
The Quiz game that indiscriminately revealed the identities of superheroes and villains alike brought both benefits and significant challenges.
For adults, it wasn't as big of an issue, but for such a young child, the impact was undoubtedly greater. Unfortunately, there was no choice but to adapt and accept it.
Just then, a deep voice rang out overhead, introducing the rules of this round of the Quiz game:
[First, Teams A and B would compete against each other. The team with the most points at the end would win, as before, and the winning team would receive a mysterious reward. However, this time, the losing team's punishment would be decided by the winning team. In other words, if the winners decided that the losers should die, then the losers would be doomed to die.]
[Of course, according to the rules, the winning team could only select two punishment options from the list provided after the game ended. The losing team, however, had no choice but to accept the punishment. Since the Quiz game acted as the arbiter, resistance is futile.]
This rule was significantly harsher than the punishments from previous elimination rounds.
Aside from this, the rest of the rules were similar to earlier team competition modes. Within these constraints, both teams were forced to go all out for victory; otherwise, they risked having their fates controlled by someone else.
The punishments for elimination in the previous rounds already felt severe, but this time, the stakes were even higher.
Pietro thought about it for a moment and said, "Logan and Charles on the opposing team are decent people. Even if they win, I doubt they'd choose anything too extreme as our punishment, right?"
Stephen Strange glanced at the three players on the opposing team, separated from them by a faint golden barrier that muffled their conversations but allowed their expressions to be seen vaguely.
His gaze lingered on Erik's face for a moment longer before he turned back to Pietro. "Who can guarantee there won't be any surprises?"
"Besides, Pietro, you're lacking confidence. Why are you assuming we won't win this game? If we win, we won't do anything unfair to them. That's better for everyone, isn't it?"
Pietro's eyes lit up at his words, and he nodded. "You're right. Winning this game would be the best outcome for everyone!"
More than anyone, Pietro wanted to win this game. He craved the strength that could be obtained from the Quiz game.
The previous round had revealed Wanda's future, stirring a deep sense of unease and urgency within Pietro. He felt like he wasn't doing his job as an older brother. He lacked the power to protect his sister. Seeing Agatha Harkness manipulate a fake version of himself, causing Wanda to cry in anguish, only amplified his guilt.
When Wanda needed him most, he hadn't been there. Just the thought of it made his heart ache.
But Pietro was painfully aware of his own limitations. His current abilities were far from enough. Most of the time, he relied on Wanda to protect him instead, which only deepened his shame and self-blame. This was why he was determined to win—for Wanda's sake, he had to win.
Meanwhile, young Peter had finally adapted to the unfamiliar surroundings. Mustering up his courage, he said, "I'll do my best to help you guys! I won't drag you down!"
"Good, There will definitely be moments where you can help. But remember, don't act rashly or on your own. You need to listen to me. We're a team now, and I'm temporarily the team leader. Got it?"
Stephen Strange patiently explained to the young Peter.
At the same time, on Team A, Erik, Charles, and Logan also reached a consensus. When answering questions, they would follow Erik's lead. After all, Erik had performed exceptionally well in the previous round of the Quiz game, securing the final victory. He had proven himself trustworthy.
Both teams completed their preparations, and at that moment, the words "Game Start" appeared on the golden screens before them.
Soon after, the first question appeared:
[This question is a 'Watch and Answer' type. A video will be played shortly. Players, please watch carefully, as questions related to the video will follow.]
As the text gradually faded, a video began to play. Both teams, including the young Peter, fixed their eyes on the screen.
On the screen, the footage was shaky, clearly filmed by an amateur with a handheld camera.
Soon, the amateur videographer appeared in the frame, excitedly chattering about their amazing adventure. The talkative young man was none other than Peter Parker—the Spider-Man(Holland's version).
The footage he had recorded was from when Tony Stark had recruited him to join the big event—the Civil War between the Avengers!
At the time, Captain America and Tony Stark had been at odds, each leading their own factions into battle. Tony had sought out Peter Parker, still a high school student, to join his side.
Most viewers had already seen the Civil War's future video clips during previous rounds of the Quiz game, but this time, experiencing it through Spider-Man's perspective had a unique charm.
Especially with this energetic and lively Spider-Man, whose chatter never stopped. He even cracked jokes about the Avengers members, making the audience burst into laughter.
