President Fu Is Great at Pretending, and the Frail Young Master Has No Way to Deal With Him

Chapter 49

The tabooest thing about painting was being restless and unable to calm down. Disturbed by the intrusive thoughts in his mind, Gu Wenning found that he could not continue painting according to his original ideas and had to temporarily give up.

In the past, Gu Wenning would throw away paintings he was not satisfied with, unwilling to let them be an eyesore. But this time, he hesitated. After some thought, he took the painting off the easel and carefully put it away.

‘Next time, when I paint again, I’ll finish it after I adjust my mindset,’ Gu Wenning thought to himself.

Unable to continue painting, Gu Wenning didn’t remain idle. Instead, he picked up a book he had borrowed from Professor Chi and began to read, half-relaxed and half-focused.

Meanwhile, Fu Yanhe, who had been politely invited out of the study, frowned as he mulled over the situation. He couldn’t understand why his wife wouldn’t make use of him when he was such a ready-made mannequin, perfectly available to model for him.

Could it be that his wife found him unattractive?

Fu Yanhe touched his muscles. Was it just psychological, or did they really feel less defined than before? They didn’t seem as tight—perhaps they were becoming a little soft, almost like fat.

He still had abdominal muscles, but they didn’t seem as organized and chiselled as they used to be.

He panicked. He was only twenty-seven, in his prime. If he didn’t take better care of himself, what would happen? No wonder his wife wasn’t interested in him.

No. No!

A sense of crisis washed over Fu Yanhe, sharper than anything he had felt before. He couldn’t afford to let himself go. Going to the gym three times a week clearly wasn’t enough—he would have to increase it to five times. He needed to sculpt his body into perfection, a figure so enticing it would captivate his wife.

Although his wife surely loved his soul, he must also fall in love with his body. From inside out, from body to heart, he had to become the best version of himself and occupy his wife’s heart completely. He couldn’t allow anyone else to seize even the smallest opportunity.

Determined, Fu Yanhe dropped the game controller and began doing push-ups on the spot. If Gu Wenning had a gym in the house, there was no doubt that Fu Yanhe would have rushed into it immediately, sweating as he lifted weights and pushed himself to his limits.

In the afternoon, Gu Wenning and Fu Yanhe arranged flowers together.

The vase they used for the arrangement was a gold vase that Fu Yanhe had bought during a business trip.

Originally, Fu Yanhe had wanted to customize a bouquet of solid gold flowers to match the vase—a pairing he thought was destined for each other. Fortunately, after Gu Wenning learned of his extravagant idea, he talked him out of it. Otherwise, a massive bouquet of golden flowers might have ended up on display, twinkling every time Gu Wenning looked at them.

Although Fu Yanhe didn’t know much about flower arrangement, it didn’t stop him from wanting to help his wife. Besides, apart from his eccentric fondness for gold, his aesthetic sense wasn’t bad. With an artist grandmother, he had absorbed a bit of artistic influence over the years.

As he admired the freshly arranged flowers, Fu Yanhe thought his wife was a true gifted man. The arrangement was far more beautiful than anything he’d seen in flower shops. No matter what flowers he bought—bright or subtle—his wife always found a way to make them elegant and extraordinary. Paired with the gold vase he had carefully chosen; the arrangement was simply perfect.

Just as Fu Yanhe was feeling proud of his choice of vase, Gu Wenning received a phone call. His expression shifted, and he quickly started preparing to leave.

Fu Yanhe immediately sprang into action, changing his shoes as he asked, “What happened, wife? Where are you going?”

Gu Wenning glanced at him apologetically and said, “Mr. Fu, I’m in a hurry. Could you go home for now?”

Fu Yanhe shook his head. Of course, he didn’t want to leave. When his wife was in a hurry, he even wanted to stay and see if he could help him. Why should he leave?

Gu Wenning really had something urgent to do. When he saw that Fu Yanhe was unwilling to go back home, he didn’t have time to say anything and quickly locked the door before rushing out.

After leaving the community and hailing a taxi, Gu Wenning told the driver his destination was the Central Hospital. Fu Yanhe followed closely behind and got into the taxi with him. After more than half an hour, the two of them arrived at the entrance of the Central Hospital.

“Butler Wu, how is Grandpa?” Gu Wenning asked anxiously, panting.

Butler Wu briefly explained the situation.

Knowing that nothing serious had happened, Gu Wenning finally felt relieved.

Grandpa Gu was old and had high blood pressure. Older people weren’t as resilient as younger ones, and they couldn’t afford to fall easily. Who knew what serious consequences a simple fall could cause? Sudden cerebral haemorrhage and similar issues were too common. That was why Gu Wenning had been so worried when he received a call from Butler Wu, fearing something bad had happened.

There was only one family member in this world who was sincerely good to him. Gu Wenning couldn’t bear for anything to happen to Grandpa Gu.

Grandpa Gu was still undergoing an examination, so Gu Wenning waited outside the examination room. After a while, the door opened, and the doctor and Grandpa Gu emerged together.

“Grandpa!”

Gu Wenning hurriedly stepped forward to help and asked the doctor nervously, “Grandpa, are you okay? Did you break any bones? Doctor, is he okay?”

“What’s the matter? Your grandpa isn’t made of glass. How could there be a problem from just a little bump? Don’t think that just because grandpa’s old, his health is bad. Grandpa’s body and bones are still strong. How many young people can compare?”

Grandpa Gu seemed a bit annoyed with his grandson’s concern, but in reality, he was pleased. After saying something irritating to Gu Wenning, he smiled and said to the doctor, “My grandson is young, hasn’t experienced much, and gets worried when something happens.”

No matter how it sounded, there was a hint of pride in his voice.

The doctor smiled and said, “Young master, if you worry too much, you’ll become confused.”

Grandpa Gu smiled and didn’t respond.

Grandpa Gu was in good spirits, and the doctor confirmed that there was nothing wrong. However, to be on the safe side, Gu Wenning insisted that Grandpa Gu stay in the hospital for one night for observation.

“Wherever you want to live, it wouldn’t change much.”

Grandpa Gu was a bit displeased, but he couldn’t resist the determined Gu Wenning. He could only turn his head angrily and glare at Butler Wu.

“You’re so nosy. Why tell Wenning? Are you my butler or his? You listen to him for everything.”

Butler Wu, who knew Grandpa Gu’s temper, wasn’t upset at all.

At this moment, Grandpa Gu noticed Fu Yanhe.

Grandpa Gu, who was in his eighties and had some poor eyesight, didn’t recognize Fu Yanhe at first. It wasn’t until Fu Yanhe called him that he realized who he was.

“Who are you…”

Grandpa Gu looked at Fu Yanhe with narrowed eyes, appearing confused.

Fu Yanhe introduced himself seriously, “Hello, Grandpa. My name is Fu Yanhe, and I am Ningning’s fiancé. You’ve forgotten, but over 20 years ago, you held me when I was a child and drank my one-month wine.”

Although these two people had met several times, they still pretended, in front of Gu Wenning, as if they had never met before.

Grandpa Gu thought for a moment, then his face lit up with recognition. “Ah, it’s you, Xiao Fu. I haven’t seen you in so many years. The little baby has grown into a young man. Tall and handsome, just like your father. A fine young man.”

In terms of seniority, Fu Yanhe should call Grandpa Gu “uncle,” but in front of him, Fu Yanhe treated him with more respect. It was harmless for his elders to tease him like this, and in fact, it made them seem closer.

Fu Yanhe, always quick with words, joked, “Grandpa, take a closer look. Everyone says I’m much more handsome than my dad.”

Grandpa Gu laughed, amused. The two of them seemed to get along very well and had a great time talking.
