Prana Chronicles: Sword of the Cosmos

Chapter 4: Chapter 3: Foundations of a New Life

The city of Eldermere was a bustling hub of life, a stark contrast to the dangerous wilderness that surrounded it. Its cobblestone streets were lined with quaint shops, lively taverns, and the ever-busy Astro Station, the heart of the city's economy and the place where Astro Hunters gathered. For Callen and Yu, it was a world unlike any they had known—a mix of wonder, danger, and opportunity.

Under Alaric's guidance, the boys began to understand the intricacies of this strange new realm. Alaric was not just a protector but also a teacher, a figure of quiet strength who carried himself with an air of confidence born from years of experience. His stories of the Astro Station captivated the boys, painting vivid pictures of daring hunts, legendary battles, and the treasures that awaited those brave enough to face the Astroid beasts.

"The Astro Station is where it all begins," Alaric explained one evening as they sat by the fire in his cabin. "Hunters take missions there, ranked by difficulty. The rewards depend on the rank and the beast defeated. When an Astroid beast is slain, it dissolves, leaving behind items and Nova Stones—the lifeblood of this world."

Callen leaned forward, his green eyes wide with curiosity. "Nova Stones? What are they used for?"

"They're the main power source," Alaric said, his tone reverent. "Everything runs on them—lights, machines, even weapons. They're also incredibly valuable, traded in gold, silver, platinum, and the like. A skilled hunter can make a fortune if they survive long enough."

Yu, always more cautious, furrowed his brow. "But what about the danger? You've told us about the ranks and the realms. What's the difference?"

Alaric chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound. "You're always thinking ahead, Yu. Good. Hunters are ranked from F to S, with S being the elite. As for power levels, it's more about what you're capable of. Most people never rise beyond 'Human,' but there are those who push their limits—'Peak Human,' 'Half-Demon,' and beyond. I'm at the Demon level, though even that's nothing compared to the legends who've reached the God Realm."

The boys listened intently, their imaginations running wild. They spent their days training under Alaric's watchful eye, learning the basics of swordsmanship, survival, and the world's unspoken rules. Their bond with Alaric deepened, as did their connection to each other.
