Chapter 31: Chapter:31
After Satoshi gave the order, he narrowed his eyes, analyzing the battle situation carefully.
He couldn't afford to drag this fight out. While the momentum seemed to be in his favor, he was well aware of Charmeleon's Blaze ability. If Gary managed to trigger it at the right moment, the tide of the battle could shift completely.
The gap between their Pokémon wasn't large, and Gary had the skill to use that ability to turn the tables.
"Roar!"
Satoshi's Charmeleon understood his Trainer's intent and charged straight at its opponent.
Gary's Charmeleon, seeing the incoming attack, responded instinctively, spinning and using Iron Tail to counter.
But before the move could land—
"Crackle~~~"
A burst of electricity filled the air.
One of Satoshi's Charmeleon's fists, crackling with electricity, blocked the incoming Iron Tail with precision.
"That's… Thunder Punch! Charmeleon, get out of the way!!"
Gary's eyes widened in alarm. He had completely miscalculated, and the realization hit him too late.
Satoshi's Charmeleon used its other fist, charged with electric energy, to deliver a crushing blow to Gary's Charmeleon's abdomen, sending it flying across the battlefield.
"Damn it! It knows Thunder Punch?! I underestimated you, but we're not done yet! Charmeleon, this is your chance—use Flamethrower with everything you've got!"
Gary's Charmeleon, now badly injured, began radiating intense flames. Its Blaze ability had activated, increasing the power of its Fire-type moves by 1.5 times.
Despite the pain, Gary's Charmeleon gathered its strength and opened its mouth to unleash a full-power Flamethrower.
But before the flames could erupt, a figure engulfed in fire appeared right in front of it.
Satoshi's Charmeleon, wreathed in flames, slammed into its opponent with a devastating Flare Blitz, sending Gary's Charmeleon crashing into the ground.
The battlefield fell silent as Gary's Charmeleon fainted, unable to continue the fight.
"Ding! Charmeleon gained experience! Charmeleon leveled up to Lv26!"
"Ding! Frogadier gained experience! Frogadier leveled up to Lv25!"
"Ding! You defeated Gary and obtained: Silver Crown x3, Mystic Water!"
"Hey, hey, hey! Satoshi, this is too much! That was Flare Blitz! How does your Charmeleon even know that move? Isn't it something only Charizard can learn?!"
Gary, having recognized the move thanks to Professor Oak's teachings, finally lost his composure. His calm, collected demeanor was gone, replaced by a mixture of frustration and disbelief.
"Too much? Really? You've got a Champion-potential Charmander, and you're telling me this?!" Satoshi muttered under his breath, finding Gary's complaint ironic.
"Actually, it's just luck. Flare Blitz is an Egg Move—it's something my Charmeleon inherited at birth," Satoshi explained, though he was clearly enjoying the moment.
Gary's face darkened further at the revelation. If not for his upbringing in the Oak family, Satoshi was sure he'd have heard some choice words.
However, Gary quickly regained his composure. After a few deep breaths, his expression returned to normal.
Satoshi couldn't help but admire him. "This level of emotional control… As expected of someone destined to lead the 'Pokédex owners.'"
Once calm, Gary recalled his fainted Charmeleon into its Poké Ball and approached Satoshi.
"I lost. I was completely outmatched in both Pokémon training and battle strategy. But next time we meet, I'll train harder and fight you again," Gary said, his tone firm but without resentment.
Though his eyes betrayed some reluctance, there was no bitterness or excuses—only a determination to improve.
"It was just a lucky move on my part. Our Pokémon are evenly matched; I just happened to have more skills to use. Next time we meet, I'm sure it won't be so easy for me to win," Satoshi replied.
He respected Gary's sportsmanship and honesty, and in return, he offered the same courtesy.
"Skills are part of a Trainer's strength. There's no need to downplay your victory. I was overconfident, and I'll make sure to train better in the future. When we meet again, let's battle!"
"Agreed. Let's battle again next time."
"Ding! Gary recognizes you as his Rival. His favorability towards you has increased to 'Friendly'!"
"Ding! You've established a good relationship with two main characters. Reminder: Building strong relationships with main characters may lead to unexpected surprises!"
