Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Challenging Lt. Surge
"So, weren't you too scared to watch?"
Ace asked, stirring the Seadra hotpot, as he watched Cynthia eating heartily. He seemed a little confused.
"Who would slice up a Seadra like you, you pervert?"
Cynthia rolled her eyes. She didn't mind hunting or training Pokémon, but she couldn't quite accept Ace dissecting and slicing Pokémon into tiny pieces like that.
In Ace's words, she was being squeamish.
After all, the hotpot they were eating now contained thinly sliced Seadra meat, and Cynthia didn't seem to have any trouble accepting that.
What surprised Ace, though, was that eating Seadra meat actually boosted his Dragon Hunter growth quest.
His physical strength increased again, but Ace's body didn't develop into a muscular physique. Instead, his body fat began to decrease, his skin became firm, and his resistance to impact significantly improved.
But this wasn't the main highlight. The real highlight was the Seadra's bones and its poisonous dorsal fin.
According to the system's prompt, Seadra's bones and dorsal fin could be used in medicine to create a type of potion.
If Ace or his Pokémon consumed it, it could slightly enhance their resistance to poison.
However, this knowledge involved potion-making, and for Ace to create it, he would have to learn slowly and spend time experimenting.
Ace was a little helpless about this, but he still dried and stored these parts of the Seadra. Perhaps he could study them later if he had time.
After dinner, Ace told Cynthia to stay in the hotel and read. He also left his backpack with her, so she wouldn't think he had run off again.
After eating his fill, Ace left the hotel directly, traveling light towards the Vermilion Gym.
He entered the Vermilion Gym smoothly and found many sailors in training inside.
And the one training them was Lt. Surge, dressed in camouflage, holding a pointer.
"Anyone here? I'd like to challenge the Vermilion Gym."
Ace walked in boldly, glanced at the training sailors and Lt. Surge, and calmly asked, "Who is the Gym Leader?"
"That would be me."
Lt. Surge stepped forward, his pupils slightly contracting as he looked at Ace. He grinned widely and said, "If you want to challenge me, defeat my men first."
Lt. Surge pointed to the sailors who had finished training and were standing up.
"Oh, then goodbye."
Ace nodded and turned to leave immediately.
He'd be crazy to fight these grunts. By the time he finished with them, his Pokémon would probably be exhausted.
Although Ace could use quest points to restore his Pokémon, would Lt. Surge give him that time?
Clearly not!
As soon as Ace seemed to be in trouble, Lt. Surge would probably immediately surround him and kill him on the spot.
So, Ace turned around and left; there was no need to argue with Lt. Surge.
"Wait, there's a quicker way if you want to battle me."
Seeing Ace leave without hesitation, Lt. Surge grew a little anxious.
It was a rare opportunity for a target to come knocking. It would be a shame not to seize this chance to take him down.
"What way?"
Seeing Lt. Surge's change in tone, Ace stopped and turned to ask.
"Battle me directly in a no-rules match."
Lt. Surge grinned, revealing a hint of ferocity.
"A no-rules Gym battle, then?"
Ace pretended to ponder. After a moment of "thought," he nodded. "Alright, but I have Flying-type Pokémon. Your battle space is too narrow here. Can we fight outside?"
"Heh heh, you seem very confident. I'll grant your request then."
Lt. Surge said indifferently, not at all worried about Ace escaping.
Listen to what the other party was saying?
Flying-type?
Under his powerful electric attacks, a Flying-type was nothing more than a younger sibling to him!
Confident of victory, Lt. Surge led Ace to an open area near Vermilion City's port. There was a large open space here, usually used for storing cargo. Since there was no cargo currently, it could temporarily serve as a battleground.
Lt. Surge took his position at one side of the field and gave a look to the accompanying sailors. They instantly understood, spread out, and surrounded the entire open space.
Ace glanced at the sailors surrounding the area, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes, but it quickly vanished.
"You're the challenger, so you get to make the first move."
Lt. Surge tossed a Poké Ball, and an Electabuzz appeared beside him.
"Three-on-three, three rounds in total. If you win, you can take the badge from me."
Ace tossed a Poké Ball and calmly stated, "Victreebel, I'm counting on you."
Victreebel landed on the open ground. The moment it touched down, an alluring scent spread, and the Electabuzz standing beside Lt. Surge immediately looked intoxicated, drooling as it couldn't help but walk step by step towards Victreebel.
"Vine Whip!"
Just as Lt. Surge was about to call out to Electabuzz, Ace reacted extremely quickly, and Victreebel's single, slender Vine Whip rapidly shot out.
Don't be fooled by the fact that Weepinbell evolved into Victreebel and its two Vine Whips became one. This wasn't a weakening, but a significant strengthening!
This single Vine Whip looked slender, but its actual strength far exceeded that of the original Vine Whips.
More importantly, because this slender Vine Whip was part of Victreebel's body, its true nature was far more terrifying than imagined!
"Electabuzz! Wake up!"
Lt. Surge's loud roar instantly snapped Electabuzz awake, but it was already too late.
Ace's Victreebel wasn't fast in movement, but its attack speed was extremely quick. The moment Electabuzz woke up, the tip of the Vine Whip pierced directly into Electabuzz's body.
The next moment, Electabuzz looked at Victreebel in disbelief. A large bulge instantly appeared where the Vine Whip had pierced.
"Thud."
Electabuzz fell to the ground, sinking into a deep sleep, a pained expression on its face.
"Electabuzz!"
Lt. Surge tried to wake it up, but as Victreebel withdrew its Vine Whip, Ace calmly said, "It's no use. Victreebel injected a large amount of three different powders into Electabuzz's body. See that large bulge? It's full of powder. Victreebel injected enough to keep it asleep for a whole day. If you don't want it to die, you'd best take it for surgery to remove the powder from the bulge."
Lt. Surge's face turned extremely grim after hearing Ace's words. He quickly recalled Electabuzz, threw the Poké Ball to a subordinate, who then rushed towards the city with the Poké Ball.
Presumably, he was going to get surgery for Electabuzz.
"Kid, your methods are quite vicious."
Lt. Surge sneered, "Let's see if you'll be smiling after this."
"Didn't you say you wanted a no-rules match?"
Ace looked at Lt. Surge with an "innocent" expression and said, "Since it's no rules, one should be prepared for severe injuries, shouldn't they, Gym Leader?"
