Pokémon: The Renegade Trainer

Chapter 23: Departure

Under the star-filled night sky were two trainers who appreciated stargazing.

Maguro and Cynthia were lying at the meadow, immersed by the view. Though they have their differences, both had to agree that the view was gorgeous.

Even Maguro's younger Pokémon like Torterra learned to love the night sky.

And so did Cynthia's Pokémon.

They looked like a big family. Unlike their trainers, the Pokémon got along well, maybe a little too well.

Perched on Gabite's head was Murkrow. Beside them sat Torterra, sitting on its shell were Roselia and Rotom hitting it off like they were good buddies.

Gliscor, who liked the high ground, was happily perched on the large tree on the Continental Pokémon.

Meanwhile the three water types were chilling by the river. Gastrodon and Mareanie seemed to share the knack for playing pranks on Gyarados.

As they went on about their evening, something happened that made their already fun gathering more magical.

It was Murkrow who first noticed it. From inside Cynthia's bag, there was a sparkle.

"Caww!" (Look, your boss's bag is glowing!)

Murkrow told Gabite, who turned to the bag. The crow initially thought that there would be some treasure inside.

'But a gem's glimmer doesn't intensify... Or maybe it's a super rare one. Boy that could fetch us millions if not billions.'

Unfortunately, Murkrow's thought process would soon be proven wrong.

"Gab, Gabite!"

"Roselia!"

It didn't take long for Cynthia's Pokémon to call for their trainer.

The Pokémon's voices snapped both trainers from their reveries, they seemed to be immersed in their own individual worlds.

They didn't even notice that they were basically invading each other's personal space.

"Wahh!"

"Woah!"

Cynthia was startled, and she jumped in surprise in a high pitched scream. "You're way too close!"

"You too! Nevermind that, the Pokémon are calling for you." Maguro backed off, pointing towards Gabite and Murkrow who were now standing at her bag and signalling for her to go there.

The blonde trainer recollected herself, and started to walk towards her bag.

'Why did I let my guard down like that?'

As she arrived, Cynthia was greeted by a white, egg-shaped, baby Pokémon resting inside her bag. It was Togepi.

"Cutie!" She picked up her packbag, seeing the gift her Grandma finally hatch lighted up Cynthia's mood a lot as she spun her new Pokémon while smiling ear to ear.

'That thing's a monster.' recognizing the black-potential energy emitted by Togepi, Maguro froze fo a second.

But to everyone's, especially to Cynthia's surprise, the egg-like Pokémon jumped out of her bag and started jumping at Gabite's feet.

"Togepi!" (Papa!)

Maguro couldn't help but chuckle at the scene. Cynthia caught that, and he earned a sharp glare from her that could pierce him if looks could kill.

"What. Did. It. Say?"

He knew she was pissed from her flat tone, but answered honestly anyway, "Togepi thinks Murkrow is its father."

Murkrow was stunned at the revelation.

Maguro turned his back, hiding his laughter from her as Cynthia eyed her newborn Pokémon.

As the Darkness Pokémon got down from his new friend's head, Togepi happily came and hugged Murkrow.

"Togepi!" (Papa!)

"Caw?" (Bro what?)

Murkrow turned its head to Maguro, who was trying his best not to break out in laughter. And with their secret hand signs he communicated:

(Good luck bro. You're a dad now)

Fortunately, Togepi also trusted Cynthia and allowed the girl to carry her.

"Here, here, Togepi."

It waddled towards the girl. The baby Pokémon thought that she smelled good and soon came to like Cynthia.

Eventually, the Pokémon gathered around the newborn Togepi. It was amiable, and basically got along with everyone.

Everyone except the scary Gyarados...

Cynthia, who was holding her new Pokémon in her embrace, turned to Maguro.

"Congratulations. We now have 5 Pokémon each." The boy smiled.

"Thank you. I learned a lot from you. You're not a bad person after all. Minus the occasional mischievousness, of course."

"I don't know what gave you that impression, but I'd have to disagree."

Cynthia patted his shoulder "Give yourself some credit, that was some solid advice you gave me. I can also tell that you've been training your Pokémon well. They all seem to love their trainer."

"Thanks, I try my best."

After a few more minutes of chatting, Cynthia and Maguro packed up their stuff and parted ways for now...

Unknown place, present day...

Men covered in black cloaks stood face-to-face around a circular table.

If it weren't for the single dim candle, it wouldn't be possible to see an eye patch beneath one of the men's faces.

Scout was the first to say "Thundra is still alive. I just met his little protege, he seems to be a rookie trainer."

"Is that so? So it was a showdown between two of the most talented scouts of the underworld, a shame that I missed it." A light feminine voice said in a playful tone.

"I'm glad you didn't see me lose miserably, Rose." Scout shrugged.

Another cloaked person voiced out: "Then this means we're gonna get some action."

"So it goes. How ironic that our job is to hunt the hunters. I still can't get over how silly that is after all these years..." It was a hoarse and mature voice.

Everyone paid attention and respected him, he called the shots after all. "Let us begin preparations then."

"""Understood."""

The cloaked people responded with a bow. And with a soft blow to the candle, the secret meeting was adjourned.

Eterna city, the next day...

"I see. Thanks for the info, we'll be on the lookout for 'THEM'."

"Yeah, keep your toes up." Maguro ended the call.

After he has informed Thundra of his encounter with Scout, the young trainer checked himself and his belongings.

Approaching Maguro was a green-haired girl. "Sorry I'm late, I had to restock on Potions."

"It's fine, were not in a rush anyway. It's best to be well-prepared for long trips such as this."

"Still, I can't believe we're staying in Mt. Coronet for two months."

To Iizumi complaints, Maguro replied. "We're gonna be training there. It'd be great if we powered-up, especially you.

"I'd rather you suffer for a while then be helpful during situations like the Gardenia one than stay weak like you are now."

"But--"

"Your grandpa would want you to be stronger."

'Plus, I've heard rumors of Beldum leading a group of Bronzor. Perfect target for my next hunt...' There was also a hidden agenda for Maguro's insistence.

As they stood at the open, a certain trainer found them and greeted hello.

"It's Cynthia."

"Hi guys." The blonde trainer stopped her bike. On her front was a pouch that housed Togepi, the newest addition to her team.

Iizumi didn't hide it, she was entranced. "She's so cute!"

"Thanks." From her reaction, it wasn't hard to tell that this wasn't the first time Cynthia's first situation.

'People are easily charmed by baby Pokémon after all.' Maguro mused. Hearing his travel companion's next words, he almost called her out.

"Hey Cynthia, wanna travel with us?"

Iizumi asked with much enthusiasm. The sudden question also caught Cynthia in surprise, but it didn't take long for her to react her.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested" her eyes turned to Maguro, "But I'll have to decline, I've already decided to return to Celestic town for a while before my rematch with Moriya.

"Thanks for the offer though."

Maguro breathed a sigh of relief hearing her words. "No worries, it's good to visit home from time to time."

"That's your fault after you said all that yesterday."

"Hey don't blame me, you asked for it." He shrugged, and both of them shared a laugh.

It didn't take long for the three trainers to part ways. Cynthia headed East while Maguro and Iizumi departed through the south gate, passing through cycling bridge once more.

Except this time, they had a chill bike ride to the next route...
