Chapter 258: Reunion at Mt. Coronet!
"Whoa! You're really the Model Elesa? Elesa, hello! My name is Lyra!"
The video call connected quickly, and Elesa appeared on the other end of the screen.
"Hey Elesa, this is Lyra. Didn't you mention last time that you needed a female assistant at the Pokémon TV station? If it's alright with you, how about Lyra? Also, how much longer until the third song gets synced to Sinnoh and Kanto?"
"If you're recommending her, Ash, of course I trust her. Lyra, just let me know when you're free—come over anytime! I'm in the Unova region right now..."
From her appearance, Elesa had just wrapped up a Gym Challenge—no surprise there, she clearly won again.
With things settled quickly between Ash and Elesa, Khoury also gave Lyra his heartfelt blessings for landing a job that aligned with her dream of working at the Pokémon TV station.
Lyra soon bid farewell to Khoury and her mentor at the Johto Festival, thanking them sincerely for all their help.
"Hehe, Ash, Dawn, Anabel—I'll be tagging along with you guys for the next few days! There are no flights out from here, so I need to reach a city with direct passage to Unova."
Lyra, holding her beloved Marill, officially joined their travel group.
"Everyone, please take care of this child before she heads off to Unova. As her mentor, I've taught her all I know. Here's a gift from us—a token of our appreciation."
Khoury and his father handed Ash's group a present.
Out of respect, they waited until they had left before opening it.
It turned out to be a Pokémon egg, sealed inside a temperature-controlled incubator!
"Whoa! It's a Pokémon egg! Yellow and blue coloration… what kind of Pokémon could it be?" Dawn examined it curiously.
She looked at Anabel—Anabel shook her head.
Then to Lyra—who also shook her head, a little embarrassed. "Come on, you three started your journeys earlier than me. If you don't know, then there's no way I would. Ash, what about you?"
All eyes turned to Ash.
Ash nodded and explained, "Usually, Pokémon eggs resemble the color patterns of the species they belong to. Pichu eggs are yellow-brown, Totodile eggs are water blue."
"This egg that Dawn's holding has a creamy yellow base and light blue on top with red dot patterns. Considering it was given at the Johto Festival, it's most likely related to the Johto region. Based on the pattern, I'd say it's a Cyndaquil egg. The first evolution form of Typhlosion—adorable, but also really powerful."
A Cyndaquil egg?
The three girls—Dawn, Anabel, and Lyra—were instantly charmed as they looked at the egg glowing inside the incubator.
"Vmmm..."
The egg began to shine—it was about to hatch!
"No problem, I've got this!" Dawn quickly opened the incubator and held the egg carefully in her hands—just in time!
"Reeeeno?"
A small, sleepy-eyed Cyndaquil emerged, yawning cutely. Adorably snuggling up in Dawn's hands, the newborn blinked and then pressed its warm little head against her palm.
"Hehe~ Looks like Cyndaquil likes me the most."
Naturally, Lyra and Anabel didn't compete for it.
And just like that, Dawn added Cyndaquil to her team.
…
Team Galactic — Cyrus
Cyrus was growing impatient.
Just moments ago, he had received confirmation from Professor Charon—the Red Chain had been successfully completed.
All that remained was a signal from Hunter J.
"Saturn. Mars. Jupiter. The time has come. Spear Pillar atop Mt. Coronet has been located. Charon is on his way, carrying the Red Chain made from the cosmic meteorite. I am en route as well. This time, our dream—the birth of a new world—will become reality!"
Cyrus grinned, a chilling and twisted smile of triumph.
At that same moment, events were unfolding across Sinnoh's three great lakes: Lake Valor, Lake Acuity, and Lake Verity.
A major incident had just occurred at Lake Valor.
The notorious poaching group active in Sinnoh—led by Pokémon Hunter J—appeared above Lake Valor aboard her cloaked airship.
She dropped a special bomb directly into the lake.
This bomb was no ordinary weapon—it tore open a rift to an alternate dimension, forcing the appearance of Azelf, the Lake Guardian of Willpower.
Hunter J succeeded in capturing Azelf!
And thanks to the psychic connection between the three Lake Guardians, Uxie and Mesprit immediately sensed what had happened and teleported in.
But even though Hunter J managed to capture all three, Mesprit and Uxie used their "Future Sight" powers just before being taken, triggering a devastating prediction.
The result?
Hunter J's entire ship crash-landed as she attempted to retreat.
Everyone aboard the vessel, apart from J herself, perished.
Now Hunter J, seething with fury, was heading straight to Mt. Coronet.
She found Cyrus, and though she initially demanded answers, Cyrus convinced her to stay. He promised that once their mission was complete, all of Team Galactic's remaining funds would go to her.
For a mercenary like Hunter J, who operated solely for profit, this was an offer she couldn't refuse.
And now—the Red Chain had reached Mt. Coronet!
…
At the same time, Professor Rowan and Professor Carolina received alerts from the main Officer Jenny headquarters.
So did Cynthia.
Cynthia had already arrived at Mt. Coronet!
Meanwhile, Ash and the others were preparing to head toward their next destination.
Suddenly, Ash's Pokégear lit up—it was a video call. The caller? Cynthia.
"Ash, something's happening. Team Galactic is making a massive move. They've all converged at Mt. Coronet. I'm already here. If you can, I need your help."
Cynthia was speaking while driving toward the mountain's summit.
Ash nodded firmly.
He had told Cynthia early on—if anything big involving Team Galactic went down, she should alert him.
Now that time had come.
Cyrus, Hunter J—treasure your final moments while you can.
"Come on out, Mewtwo! Use Teleport and take us to Mt. Coronet!"
