Chapter 39: Don't drop the egg

On the day of Pokémon egg allocation

"Ayan are you ready?" His mother was ready with Leavanny holding on to Oddish on her arms. It had been almost a month since Ayan had arrived at this world. Many things had changed since then. Ayan hadn't mad much progress but one couldn't say that he wasn't trying either.

Almost everyday he would go to the Viridian Forest to gain experience. At first he thought he would be able to cross the Forest within a week or so. But he had looked down upon the Forest a bit too much or maybe the anime/ game made it look easy.

Because it fucking wasn't. For Ayan it felt like a grind. Go to forest. Fight wild Pokémon. Fight trainers. Gain money and resources. Come back. Repeat the next day. This had been his life for sometime now. By now he had grown fully accustomed with this world, and wasn't awed by the Pokémon's presence anymore.

But he had also progressed a lot in this month. If his friends ever came to know of how powerful he had become, they would be beyond distraught. But he was a private person to begin with and played his cards close to himself always.

Today was the day, he would receive his supposed first Pokémon egg and this was a huge matter for most of the students. After today, it would mean that the students would be able to register themselves as trainers in the Alliance, and move forward in their career. A huge step for new and budding youngsters who have dream of grandiose.

"Yeah, mom. I am coming." Ayan said as he had his bath.

The sun had risen, casting soft golden hues across the skyline as Pidgey flapped overhead, following Ayan and his mother at a casual glide. Leavanny walked gracefully beside them, Oddish happily settled in her arms like a leafy baby wrapped in green. Ayan, now dressed in a dark blue shirt and cargo pants, adjusted his bag and looked around as they crossed the main plaza toward the towering white dome of the Shillong Alliance Breeding House.

The building itself was majestic. Designed like a modern greenhouse, it shimmered with translucent glass panels and solar collectors, lined with murals of iconic Pokémon.

"Are you nervous?" his mother asked, glancing at him as they walked up the stairs.

"Not really," Ayan replied honestly. "Just curious."

"You've worked hard for this. You deserve a good one."

"Mom, if I need a particular Pokémon, I would get it eventually." Ayan though in his mind. At the entrance, a cheerful attendant welcomed them.

"Welcome to the Shillong Breeding Allocation. Please wait for your name to be called. Family and Pokémon companions may accompany you inside the observation hall."

Ayan and his mother took a seat near the back, Leavanny sitting tall beside them while Oddish peeked from her arms like a nosy toddler.

A few moments later, the doors opened again.

"Ayooo!" Neil's voice rang out, loud as always. He waved at Ayan, strolling in with Elicia beside him, both dressed in casual clothes. They had arrived with their parents too, and though their parents hadn't met with each other, Neil and Elicia introduced them with each other.

"So today's the big day, huh?" Neil grinned. "You think we'll get something cool? Maybe a Gible egg?" Ayan just rolled his eyes at the thoughts of Neil. Gible? That too a starter? A dragon Pokémon was a bad news for starters for people here because they needed huge resources and only the rich people could afford it.

And a dragon egg in the Alliance breeding house was like getting a lottery ticket out of a million raffle. It wasn't like it hasn't happened before. There were some cases where a lucky person got a dragon egg, but it was once in a several lifetime occurrence.

Dragons mostly live in herds far away from most human civilizations. It was rare for a dragon egg to pop out of nowhere, even in secret dimensions.

"Be real." Ayan said, Neil still smiled like a dumb idiot.

"I just hope mine doesn't cry all day like a Munchlax." Elicia chimed in. As they were talking to each, more students poured in with their guardians and soon conversations between the people around, made the place a bit too noisy. But thankfully, they didn't have to wait much. Names were soon called. And Ayan's name wasn't far off.

"Ayan Tori, please proceed to Egg Distribution Room A3."

Ayan stood up and with a nod from his mother, Leavanny and Oddish, walked into the side corridor. The building hummed with the quiet energy of life waiting to hatch. Inside Room A3, a large, circular room with padded flooring and soft ambient lights, a console stood in the center with six glowing pods, each holding a Pokémon egg. A staff member in a white Alliance coat greeted them.

"Congratulations on reaching your first official milestone as budding trainer," she said with a warm smile. "Before you are these randomized eggs from the Alliance Breeding Registry. These eggs are stable, close to hatching, and are healthy. Please choose one."

There wasn't a standard way to identify Pokémon from their eggs. Ayan didn't mind it, he choose an egg which was light green, speckled with darker forest green lines, with faint pinkish spots that almost shimmered in the light.

The staffer handed him a carrying harness, allowing him to safely transport the eggs like a sling bag strapped to his chest or back. He would need to put it inside an incubator at home.

"The egg will likely hatch within two weeks," she explained. "Care for it with warmth and attention. You may return to the Breeding House at any time if assistance is needed." Ayan nodded and soon came out holding the egg. Soon it was Neil and Elicia's turn and it didn't take them long to come out.

After coming out, Leavanny didn't even bother and took the egg from Ayan to keep it to herself, as she feared that Ayan would drop the egg.
