Pokemon: I Raised Three Dumb Birds and..

Chapter 107: Chapter 107

"Look over there."

Early in the morning, the Mythical Pokémon had just finished breakfast. As they lazily picked their teeth and hiccuped, Groudon suddenly pointed toward Ralts and Charmander playing in front of the small wooden house.

"It seems little Ralts doesn't get close to us anymore."

"I noticed it a long time ago," the others sighed.

"It must be because Charmander is a newly born Pokémon—same stage as Ralts. So Ralts likes playing with it more."

"I just don't understand how that Charmander can complete the training so easily. When Lapras and the others train, they can barely last a minute."

"Could it be a level or evolution-stage issue?" offered the relatively intelligent Articuno, raising a wing.

"That's it!" The Mythical Pokémon suddenly understood.

"Seems like we still need to raise its level and help it evolve quickly."

"In that case, aren't we just helping the enemy?"

"You don't get it. With Master around, it's going to evolve sooner or later anyway."

"Right! We might as well show Charmander our power now while it still sees us as rivals."

Moltres tilted its head. "Here's the question though—why hasn't Charmander evolved yet?"

"I'm a Fire-type legendary bird. I can sense the Fire energy in its body. It's more than enough to evolve."

Kyogre frowned. "There's some other kind of energy suppressing it... Maybe it ate something weird."

Moltres grew impatient. "Forget evolution. Let's raise its level first. If nothing works, I'll throw it onto Flame Island. I've collected tons of Fire Stones there. With that much elemental energy, there's no way a little Charmander won't evolve."

Strangely enough, these five Mythical Pokémon were seriously and meticulously discussing Charmander.

If word got out that five Mythical Pokémon were working together to handle a Charmander, that Charmander—currently teasing Ralts—would instantly become famous.

Later, when Charmander evolved into Charizard and learned that these five Pokémon it had been mocking were actually Mythical Pokémon...

...Well, no one could say how much it would panic then.

---

"Clap clap clap…"

"That's about it." After breakfast and a short rest, Leaf clapped his hands.

"Since I've got free time these days, we'll train diligently. Get ready to begin."

"Master!" The Mythical Pokémon raised objections.

"Let's skip the fourth stage today, or we'll really die."

"And it takes too long. You should take Charmander out this afternoon to gain battle experience—let it evolve sooner."

"Yeah, it's not even first-stage evolved. So pitiful."

"Awoo-awoo-awoo…"

Being pitied like that, Charmander immediately snapped back.

"I'm pitiful? I'm not the ones collapsing after three rounds. I can do four! Unlike you five trash bags."

"You eat so much every day, you're just wasting Master's food!"

"You little…!!" The Mythical Pokémon seethed. Any one of them could obliterate Charmander with a breath—if Leaf weren't watching.

But they couldn't. Aerodactyl had once described Leaf's caught Pokémon as princes, and the analogy wasn't far off.

As long as their "father king" Leaf was present, how could the princes fight among themselves?

---

"Stop arguing!" Leaf stepped in.

"You've got a point. Complete the third stage today, and then you can rest. I'll take Charmander out for training afterward."

Charmander had no objections. It just didn't like the Mythical Pokémon pointing it out.

Three stages took three hours.

Right after lunch, Leaf took Charmander off the island.

---

"Charmander, Ember!"

"Deal with the Venonat!"

At Leaf's command, Charmander immediately attacked. The Venonat was defeated in a blink.

But Leaf wasn't pleased.

Charmander was too active to quietly wear an Exp. Share and gain experience from the sidelines. Nor did Leaf want to raise a lazy Pokémon.

Unlike Milotic, whose calm nature gave Leaf no worries, Charmander's lively nature meant that once it slacked, it might never bounce back.

But against Elite-level Pokémon—even with a type advantage—Charmander was under pressure.

To find suitable opponents, Leaf searched two islands and finally found this one: mostly level 20 Bug- and Grass-types, with few Elite-level Pokémon.

However, the land area was small, with lots of beaches. Charmander had run into several Water-types already.

Luckily, they were mostly unevolved and easy to beat with Charmander's speed and level.

But as the saying goes, "Walk enough dark roads, and your feet will get wet."

---

At the forest's edge, another Water-type Pokémon appeared.

And this one had evolved.

"Beep…"

> Poliwag, a Water-type Pokémon.

Poliwag is bipedal with a spherical body. Its blue skin is covered in a slippery, sticky liquid that makes it hard to catch.

Its white belly displays a black, counter-clockwise spiral—its internal organs visible through transparent skin.

After evolving, Poliwag gains arms that resemble white mittens. It has no gender differences.

Its leg strength allows it to walk on land, though it still prefers the safety of water.

Staring at the spiral on its belly may cause drowsiness. It can learn several Water-type moves, including Wake-Up Slap.

This Poliwag seemed strong.

Leaf frowned and took out a Poké Ball. "Charmander, return. This guy might be too much for you."

"Roar!" Charmander shook its head. Its eyes were firm. It jumped in front of Poliwag, baring its teeth.

Seeing this, Leaf hesitated—then smiled.

"Alright. If you lose, you lose. It's good to experience failure."

"Charmander, Smokescreen!"

"Reduce Poliwag's accuracy, or you'll get one-shot!"

"Roar!"

Charmander was slightly annoyed by Leaf's worry, but followed orders.

A gray cloud of smoke burst from its mouth. Poliwag, startled, sprayed Water Gun wildly in all directions.

"Charmander, Slash!"

"Roar!"

Just as Charmander rushed in, a stray Water Gun struck it.

"Crap!" Leaf panicked and reached for the Poké Ball.

But Charmander flipped upright midair and lunged again—Slash!

One hit wasn't enough to finish it. Charmander quickly retreated, gathered itself, and struck again with another Slash.

"Wah…"

Poliwag collapsed after the second hit.

---

Ding!

Charmander's battle experience increased!

Charmander defeated a lv22 Water-type Pokémon at a disadvantage. Points calculated…

Charmander leveled up!

Charmander learned: Fire Fang!

---

"...I'll go…"

Leaf was stunned.

How many times had the points been multiplied?

A wild thought struck him:

What if Charmander never evolved?

If its level stayed low, but its strength kept increasing—Charmander might become an infinite source of system points.

A true farming machine.
