Chapter 85: 85-Move Tutoring
Technical Machines work through directly transmitting the knowledge of a move's usage into a Pokémon's mind. As long as a Pokémon is capable of learning that particular move, it can use a TM to acquire it.
However, they are single-use only. Once activated, they become unusable and cannot be reused.
After stepping out of the Poké Shop and on his way back to his dormitory, Sieg cautiously glanced behind him. Surprisingly, no one was tailing him. It seemed the legitimacy of a proper shop made a real difference.
If this had taken place in the black market, there would have been at least one or two shady figures lurking behind.
Back in his dormitory, Sieg began crafting a half-month training plan. He didn't need to think too hard to set his focus entirely around skills and techniques.
After all, the only way to make swift progress in a short period was through learning new moves. As this thought crossed his mind, Sieg suddenly recalled a well-known location in Verdanturf Town, often mentioned in online forums.
Or more accurately, a well-known person, the Move Tutor.
In the world of Pokémon, there were all sorts of jobs related to Pokémon beyond the basic Trainers and Breeders. One of the rarer and more mysterious roles included Alchemists, or Item Crafters.
And then, there were Move Tutors.
While most Move Tutors did not have battle-capable Pokémon themselves, they were often deeply knowledgeable in a wide range of elemental moves.
Their Pokémon were typically experts in instructing others, leading to the creation of this unique profession.
The very next day, Sieg made his way to the southwestern part of Verdanturf Town. There stood a massive elliptical building with a huge spherical dome mounted on top.
In all of Verdanturf, this was one of the few buildings that rivaled Siegh's dormitory and the Battle Club in terms of size and grandeur.
The moment Sieg stepped inside, an attendant promptly approached him.
"Hello and welcome! Are you here to find a Move Tutor for your Pokémon?" a man wearing glasses and a uniform greeted him with a warm smile.
Sieg gave a silent nod and then stated his purpose, "I'm looking for a Move Tutor who can teach Rock Slide and Double Team."
His Crawdaunt had already begun training in several techniques. In addition to Dragon Dance and Rain Dance, it had recently learned Rock Slide, Double Team, and Brick Break.
But priorities were crucial. Trying to do everything at once would only lead to getting nothing done.
Sieg had decided to focus on Rock Slide first, as it was the most effective move for countering Staraptor.
The staff member quickly understood Sieg's intent and began communicating through a transceiver device on his wrist. Before long, an elderly man in a colorful vest arrived, leaning on a cane, yet radiating vitality.
By his side was a Pokémon that resembled a mole, with a steel blade protruding from its head like a shark fin, and hands shaped like massive drills.
Sieg, familiar with all kinds of Pokémon from the Pokéworld, instantly recognized it.
It was an Excadrill!
A unique Pokémon from the Unova region, typically found in underground tunnels and highly valued by construction crews.
"Hehehe, young man, you want your Pokémon to learn Rock Slide, correct?" The old man beamed kindly as he spoke.
But Sieg remained cautious. His Crawdaunt was tense, glaring warily at the Excadrill, clearly on edge.
Sieg could sense it, this Excadrill was incredibly strong. It had to be at least level 40 or higher. Otherwise, Crawdaunt wouldn't have reacted like that.
Still, this was an official League facility, not some shady corner of the underworld. With that in mind, Sieg allowed himself to relax a bit.
"Yes," Sieg replied respectfully, "I'd like my Crawdaunt to learn Rock Slide, and also Double Team. Are you the Move Tutor, sir?"
The old man nodded with a cheerful grin and motioned for Sieg to follow him. They soon arrived at a spacious training room.
Inside was a simple sand-based training field. Sieg noticed a security camera tucked into one of the corners. Confirming there was no danger, he allowed Crawdaunt to enter with Excadrill.
"My old friend, would you kindly teach this young one how to use Rock Slide?" the old man said, tapping his cane and pointing toward Crawdaunt.
Every gesture he made radiated vitality, betraying his old age.
Sieg quietly observed as Excadrill began its demonstration. It appeared to be genuinely instructing Crawdaunt.
Though Sieg couldn't understand the Pokémon's language, he could hear Excadrill's animated chatter as it waved its drill-like arms in the air.
Rock-type energy gathered in the atmosphere, and chunks of rock began to form and crash down onto the ground.
Crawdaunt mimicked the process, waving its claws through the air. Brownish-gray energy gathered at its claw tips, forming a rock about the size of a fist.
Compared to the boulders produced by Excadrill, Crawdaunt's attempt seemed pitiful in size. The difference was like heaven and earth.
Sieg couldn't help but worry. How much progress could really be made in just half a month?
"Hehe, young man, no need to worry," the old man chuckled. "Your Crawdaunt is very well-trained. Drill has been with me for decades. Over the years, I've taught hundreds, maybe even over a thousand new Trainers."
He pulled out his League ID and gestured for Sieg to look him up online.
Sieg smiled politely, though inside, he was grumbling.
"450,000 Pokédollars for just half a month of training! At this rate, he earns more than I did as a teacher at Trainer school!"
Of course, before coming here, he had already done his research. He knew the old man was a renowned Move Tutor with a sterling reputation.
He specialized in Rock, Ground, and Steel-type moves.
Decades ago, he had even won a major championship. Despite his age, his skills were still as sharp as ever.
In his youth, he had been a true prodigy.
That reputation came with a steep price. But Sieg wasn't one to penny-pinch if it meant results.
Online reviews of the tutor were overwhelmingly positive. It was even rumored that Steven, the heir of the Devon Corporation, had once sought his instruction.
A future Champion's personal recommendation!
That was all Sieg needed to justify spending 30,000 Pokédollars per day on this man.
Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.
During that time, Sieg immersed himself in the study of Pokémon care and development, while leaving his Pokémon in the old man's care.
League-run facilities like this were nothing like the lawless black zones. There was no danger of theft or harm. And besides, Sieg could monitor the training room's security feed at any time.
That gave him peace of mind.
"Crawdaunt, Rock Slide!"
With Sieg's command, Crawdaunt stomped heavily on the ground and swung its claw. In an instant, several boulder-sized rocks formed mid-air.
"Drop!"
The stones crashed down with a thunderous rumble.
Sieg looked at the giant rocks scattered across the training field, satisfaction blooming on his face. The money had been well spent.
In just two short weeks, a newly acquired move had been honed to such a degree. The tutor truly lived up to his title as a a rtevered instructor.
"Again! Use Rock Slide one more time!"
With visible excitement, Sieg issued another command as Crawdaunt prepared to unleash its power again.
