Pokemon: Arceus' Champion

Chapter 188: Playing Tag

"Ace, I have an update for you." Giana said suddenly through my earpiece, right as Pidgeot and I were busy avoiding a godly Posion Sting as toxic barbs as large as Christmas trees rained down around us from the sky.

"Good news or bad?"

"Both."

"Figures. Give me the good first."

"We've taken over the airship completely, and wiped out any remaining Rockets on board."

"That is good. Now give me the bad."

"The officer in charge of the airship, Vicious, managed to escape with several members of the crew. From the sound of it they all abandoned Team Rocket, but in their escaped he also smashed the control pad for the true alpha Beedrill. So we have no way to get her back under control."

"..."

"Figures..." I muttered in resignation, having honestly expected nothing less. After all, when were things EVER easy?

"So I guess that means we're back to fighting a god." I grumbled over the earpiece, right as Beedrill used the move Fell Stinger.

"Ace-"

"I'm not leaving Lance, so just shut the hell up about it!" I snapped at the Champion even as Pidgeot barrel-rolled to evade the massive stinger coming right at us, which instead vaporized a little spit of land that would have been an island someday.

"I have to agree with Ace, Lance." Cynthia said suddenly.

"Yeah! There's no point in him trying to escape when this thing is completely locked onto him!" Iris piped up as well.

"Now that we've established that, give me some options here Giana!" I said through the earpiece as Pidgeot and I swung back around, and he used Steel Wing to try and tear through the metal helmet covering Beedrill's head.

*CLANG!*

"Damn it..." I swore as the Steel Wing only glanced off of the helmet, not even leaving a scratch in its wake.

"Of course that wouldn't work." Said a mature, feminine voice I didn't recognize that also oozed sensuality.

"Who is this?" I asked warily.

"This is Ariana, formerly of Team Rocket. It is a genuine pleasure to finally meet you, even if it in such an informal manner, my new Boss~."

"Ugh. Firstly, don't call me that, it makes me feel like Giovanni. And secondly, why wouldn't our attacks work?"

"Master then? Or perhaps Sire? Something to discuss later perhaps. As for why your attacks won't work, its because that armor and helmet are designed to withstand combat against other true alphas and Legendary pokemon. After all, we can't send them into battle against other true alphas and Legendary pokemon while also risking loosing such a valuable 'asset'."

Resisting the urge to tell this Ariana that pokemon weren't just 'assets', I instead asked her, "Is there any way we CAN get through the armor?"

"Hmm... Perhaps by using repeated powerful electric type attacks you can fry the circuits? Of course I'm not talking about electric type attacks from just ANY pokemon, only Champion level attacks would suffice. And even then, it's only a possibility since we also planned on attacking both Zapdos and Moltres soon."

"Ok... I can work with that." I said while Pidgeot and I flipped to avoid yet ANOTHER attack from Beedrill.

"Alright! Can each of you send out any pokemon you have that can Fly and know electric type attacks?" I asked the three Champions that were up here with me.

"Both my Dragonite and Hydreigon know Thunder!" Lance declared, apparently giving up on getting me somewhere safe as he sent out the second dragon type.

"So does my Dragonite, but my Druddigon only knowns Thunder Punch and Thunder Fang." Iris stated, also sending out her second dragon type.

"I have my Togekiss, but all it knows is Thunder Wave." Cynthia supplied.

"That's alright, I think we may be good with what we have! Lance and Iris, try and pepper Beedrill everywhere you can with Thunder, look for any weak points in it's armor, specifically it's helmet. Cynthia, have Garchomp repeatedly use slashing attacks on the same spot on the helmet, and Iris you do the same with Druggigon using Thunder Punch. If the Thunder attacks don't work, then maybe you can wear a weak point in the helmet that we can break through and disable it with. Pidgeot and I will keep it's attention, and give you all as many openings as possible to attack. Got it?!"

"""Right!""" The three Champions declared, apparently deciding to go along with my plan.

"Ok Pidgeot, time to REALLY piss her off." I said to my trusty bird.

"Geo!" Pidgeot chirped, saying he was more than ready to do more than just dodge.

"Alright! Start with Agility then Swagger! After that use Double Team-"

***

"That's right! Take them all down!" Declared Grey as he oversaw the battle, determined to take the momentum back now that Beedrill had joined the battle. Except the stupid thing was focused entirely on Ace Ketchum as he battled it with three of the Champions, Iris, Lance and Cynthia.

Meanwhile, Steven, Kukui and Nemona were all still on the deck, protecting VIPs and non-combatants while barking orders at the Elite Four, who would then relay said orders to the Gym Leaders and trainers under their command. And then there were the Rangers present, including THREE Top Rangers of the Union, making Grey wonder if they had been expecting their attack.

After all, this resistance was much too organized for them to be caught off guard, especially considering how many Rangers were apparently in hiding until they showed themselves. One or two as escorts was one thing, but the number one Ranger himself being present told Grey that their presence was no coincidence.

"Damn that Giana..." Grey swore, automatically blaming the 'daughter' of Giovanni who had been taken 'captive' several days prior. It was the only reason he could think of for them to be so well prepared for their attack. Either that, or they had some other leak.

The words were barely out of his mouth before the battlefield experienced a sudden shift, as their airship began to descend towards the ship as it approached them. At the same time, ALL of thier collared pokemon began acting strange as they began to attack their agents instead.

"Attention all Team Rocket agents! We have taken the airship and purged your comrades onboard! We have also taken control of the pokemon wearing obediance collars! Lay down any weapons, call off your pokemon and surrender quietly, or your life may be forfeit! This is both your first and final warning!"

"..."

All sorts of colorful words wanted to escape Grey's tongue at that moment, but he bit them back as his mind raced in regards of how to deal with this new development.

While they still had plenty of agents left to fight, there was no telling how long they would last against so many trainers after Ace Ketchum managed to rally those who had tried to flee previously. Then there were the Champions and Elite Four to consider, as the true alpha Beedrill was still focused on Ace to do anything against them like they planned.

Grey didn't even consider counting Team Aqua for two reasons. The first one was that the organization of zealots would readily turn on them the moment they realized Team Rocket was losing the battle. The second reason was that only a small handful of them had even managed to make onto the deck of the ship at this point, due to the trainers that dived down to fight them, and the water type pokemon that had apparently been laying in wait to ambush them, yet another sign that their plans had been leaked.

"I think we'll need plan A." Grey eventually decided, pulling a certain device from a pocket in his jacket and pressing the button on it. That was all he needed to do, as it automatically sent out the signal to activate their plan A.

Until then, Grey decided to do what he could to ensure their main objective was accomplished, the death of as many high profile figures, particularly Champions, as possible. But first, there was one person in particular that was almost as high a priority as Ace Ketchum, even more so than the Champions.

"Get me Lucinda." Grey said to the man behind him, who readily offered the Admin the large case he was holding onto.

Grey accepted the case with a look bordering reverence as he carefully opened it to reveal a sleek high-power sniper rifle.

"Ah Lucinda. When all else fails, I know you never will." Grey said as he picked up one of the loaded magazines, and locked it into place to load the gun.

He then gazed down the scope to locate his first target, Samuel Oak.

"There you are, old man." Grey said as he lined the shot up with professor Oak's head, and prepared to pull the trigger.

"Raticate, Iron Tail!"

"!!!"

Before Grey could react, his precious Lucinda was knocked from his hands and smashed at the same time by an attack, an attack from a Raticate of all things.

"Do you realize what you've done?" Grey asked the trainer of said Raticate, calmly.

"Yeah, I saved my gramps. That's what!" Sneered the youth who Grey immediately recognized as Gary Oak, grandson of Samuel Oak, and son of Blue.

"You may have saved your grandfather, but who will save you?" Grey asked back, before grabbing one of his own pokeballs.

"Go, Raticate."

""!!!""

Both Gary and Raticate went wide-eyed as they beheld the largest Raticate either had ever seen, easily nearing five feet.

"Now then Gary, shall we see how your common Raticate will do against my alpha?" Grey sneered as they began their battle.

***

"Pidgeot, AIR SLASH!" I exclaimed urgently, as Beedrill sprayed a MASSIVE net of sticky webbing in a supersized String Shot.

"GEO!" He cried out, summoning numerous blades of air to slice a hole in the net large enough for us to slip through. Only, we were then met by dozens of Beedrill that had also joined the fight at the command of their creator.

"THUNDER, AGAIN!" I heard Lance roar out before the night sky lit up as his Dragonite and Hydreigon both used the attack, the latter summoning THREE attacks instead of just one to go with each head.

I watched as all four attacks struck the armor protecting Beedrill, only to leave a few small scorch marks on its surface.

"Damn it... We can't keep this up Ace!" Lance declared, right as Iris' Druddigon used Fire Punch on Beedrill's helmet in an attempt to weaken it, before Cynthia followed up.

"Dragon Claw!" She ordered her Garchomp, who swooped in like a fighter jet with both of it's claws glowing with draconic power.

*CLANG!*

*CLANG!*

The sound of the claws impacting the metallic armor rang out, but it still held fast.

"I agree with Lance, Ace... This isn't working." Cynthia said as well, and I couldn't help but to agree.

"Not yet!" Iris declared, as she and her Dragonite swooped in towards the same spot on the top of the helmet that Cynthia and Druddigon had been attacking.

"!!!"

"Iris, NO!" I tried to call out to her as I noticed Beedrill finally shift it's attention from me towards her, but it was too late.

"Eh?" Iris uttered as Beedrill suddenly turned towards her, before it swept it's stinger at her and Dragonite in a powerful Poison Jab.

*CRASH!*

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAA-!"

Iris screamed as the attack hit her and Dragonite, knocking her pokemon out instantly while also sending her flying through the air.

"Drudd!" Druddigon cried as it dove down to try and catch her, but as a species that didn't fly very well to begin with, it had nowhere near the speed to catch her.

"Pidgeot!"

"PI!"

At my command, Pidgeot tucked his wings and entered a dive as we raced to catch Iris before she could hit the water.

The wind whistled in my ears as we shot through the air, with me hugging myself as close to Pidgeot as possible to increase our speed.

"-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

"Gotcha!" I cried out, grabbing onto Iris' leg right as Pidgeot pulled up out of his dive, and right before all three of us hit the water.

"HAAA! THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!" Iris exclaimed as I pulled her onto my lap and she hugged me tightly, as if terrified that she would fall once more.

"That's right. We got you." I told her soothingly, as if we didn't have an entire swarm of Beedrill on our asses along with their literal god.

Speaking of asses...

"..."

Either because she didn't realize, or just didn't care after I just saved her life, Iris didn't say anything as I repeatedly squeezed her butt with one hand, and held onto Pidgeot's harness with the other. And surprisingly, she had a pretty nice butt under all of that hair.

Instead, she just clung to me tighter as we proceeded to perform numerous aerial maneuvers to outrun the Beedrill.

"Where is Dragonite?" She finally asked after calming down somewhat.

"Its alive, if that was what you were wondering. Floating over there unconscious." I told her, nodding in the general direction that Dragonite had fallen. Even taking the brunt of the attack, it had gotten off fairly well.

"That's good. So now what do we do?" Iris asked as we flew up away from the attacking swarm.

"We need more power, but the only option I have at the moment is Mega Evolving Pidgeot. Which I can't do since he'll be borderline useless aftert the transformation wears off."

"PI?!"

"No, I'm not picking on you. You've seen how Lucario and the others are after their transformation wears off, and it'll be the first time we try it with you."

"Pi Geo, Pidgeot!"

"Yes, You're built different. But not in the way you think."

"Pi."

Pidgeot huffed at me dismissively, before suddenly doing a half barrel-roll and using several Air Slash attacks on the Beedrill chasing us, thinning their numbers.

"KYAAA!" Iris cried out, clinging to me even tighter than before as we hung upside-down momentarily.

"Yes, very impressive, but NOT helping." I told him irritably, which did nothing to diminish his smug attitude as he righted himself.

"You're blessed by the Legendaries! Can't you do something?!" Iris demanded as we swerved around ANOTHER attack from the true alpha Beedrill, this time a massive cloud of toxic gases.

"BEEDRILL CAN'T EVEN LEARN SMOG!" I yelled at the true alpha behind us, as if that would show her that she shouldn't be able to use that move. But even as I did so, I thought about what Iris had just said.

"Ariana, are you there?" I asked over the earpiece.

"Yes Sir?" Ariana asked, and I elected to ignore the title for the moment.

"You said you guys designed this armor to stand up to even attacks from the Legendary pokemon, right?"

"That is correct."

"Can it actually do so?"

"I cannot say for sure. After all, all the theories in the world mean nothing if we can't obtain actual data of the parameters of an attack from a genuine Legenday."

"Does that mean that we could get through if we, say, had access to the divine lightning of Zapdos?"

"..."

"It is possible..." Ariana said slowly.

"What are you thinking Ace?" Cynthia immediately asked me.

"Have Garchomp attack the same spot on the helmet once again, as many attacks as it can in the next few seconds! Lance, can your pokemon mange one more Thunder?"

"They can, but what are you planning?" Lance asked me warily.

"I'm planning to use the power of a god!" I declared while directing Pidgeot to fly upwards, as high as he could go at his top speed with Iris and I on his back.

Thankfully, even after her earlier attack on Dragonite, Beedrill was still focused entirely on me and followed us skywards.

"Dragonite is up!" Iris stated to me suddenly, as her pokemon seemingly recovered from the earlier hit.

"Good, tell it to try and use Thunder one more time. Except this time, use the attack on me instead of on Beedrill."

"""!!!"""

""""WHAT?!"""

Iris, lance and Cynthia all exclaimed in shock when they heard the next part of my plan.

"Are you insane Ace! A Thunder attack from A Champion level pokemon could kill you! And you want to take THREE?!" Iris stated in disbelief.

"Want? No. But I will have to." I told her, before unhooking myself from Pidgeot's harness and hooking it to her instead.

"?!?"

"Ace-!"

"SEE YA!"

As we reached a point where we were even above the clouds, I let go of Pidgeot's harness so that he and Iris would continue flying upwards without me.

"DO IT NOW!" I yelled out as I began plummeting down at Beedrill, who was still flying up at Pidgeot.

"ACE-"

"DO IT BEFORE I GO SPLAT!"

Apparently they finally realized that they all had no other choice than to go along with my plan, as the only one fast enough to even try and catch me was Pidgeot, and he was probably the only one not questioning my plan.

I watched Cynthia and Garchomp attacked the helmet covering Beedrill's head once more, using several Dragon Claw attacks before the swarm tried to attack them to protect their queen. But it was enough.

At the same time I felt Lance's Dragonite, his Hydreigon, and Iris' Dragonite gathering energy, before all three unleashed it, on me.

I channeled the power of Zapdos, the power granted to me by a literal god, drawing the electric attacks towards me like a mobile lightning rod as I plummeted through the air. Shockingly, when they struck I felt no actual pain.

I had experienced electric type attacks in the past, and they fucking hurt. But there was none of that now.

Instead, all I felt was the overwhelming power, as if I was going burst any second just from DARING to try and contain it. But I only needed to contain it for a few brief seconds.

Electricity arced from every part of my body, trying to escape even as I forced it to remain within me and channeled the power of Zapdos through it. Converting it all into divine electricity before channeling it all into my hand as Beedrill rapidly approached me, and I eyed the point that Cynthia had repeatedly attacked with Garchomp.

"DIVINE THUNDER PUNCH!"

My voice tore across the sky like I was an actual god of thunder, and not just a pretender borrowing some power, as I slammed my fist into the helmet and allowed all of the divine power within me to finally escape into it.

*KER-KRACK!*

The smell of ozone and burning metal ripped through the air as the power in my body tore through Beedrill's armor, melting anything close to me and frying everything else.

I felt the machinery die as Beedrill was freed from the control of Team Rocket, and all of the Beedrill surrounding us ceased their movements as the will of their queen changed.

We did it!

"..."

"Oh shit..." I uttered, as Beedrill began to plummet towards the ocean with me still riding on it.

***

"What's the matter kid? Is that really all you can do?"

"..."

Gary gritted his teeth as Grey taunted him over their battle, if it could even be called that. Instead, it was as if his Raticate was taking a one-sided beating from Grey's alpha Raticate.

Now his Raticate was barely remaining conscious, only doing so through sheer will and from the fierce loyalty it had towards it's trainer.

"You should really learn when to throw in the towel. But I guess kids today need to learn the hard way." Grey said as if it couldn't be helped, before pulling something from his jacket.

""!?!""

Both Gary and Raticate went wide-eyed as Grey pointed a gun at him.

"I suppose that if I can't get rid of the troublesome Samuel Oak right now, I can at least kill his legacy." Grey said with a slight smirk, before suddenly shifting target as he pointed the gun at Raticate, right as his own Raticate pinned it to the deck.

"But first, a lesson in futility."

"NOOOO-!" Gary cried as he tried to rush forward, desperation like he had never felt before filling his body as he only one thought filled his mind, saving his pokemon.

Images flashed through Gary's mind as he ran forward, images of him and Raticate and the journey they had until now.

Raticate was the first pokemon he ever caught, back when it was still a Rattata. It didn't matter if they were seen as 'weak' or 'garbage' pokemon, Gary planned to turn it into a champion like his Blastoise.

He remembered it's first battle, training it with his other pokemon, when it evolved, and them celebrating earning his Badges together.

As if planned, Grey's Raticate moved to allow Gary to get to his pokemon right as Grey pulled the trigger.

*BANG!*

Gary squeezed his eyes closed, waiting for the pain as the bullet tore through him.

But it never came.

And neither did it come for Raticate either.

"..."

Slowly, Gary opened his eyes to a sight that brought tears to his eyes. Tears he quickly wiped away.

"Gramps..." Gary uttered, as he looked up at his grandfather's menacing Dragonite.

Gone was Dragonite's mellow attitude.

Gone was his carefree smile.

Gone was his goofy demeanor.

Instead, Dragonite's expression was twisted into one of rage as he held up one of his claws, which the bullet had smashed into harmlessly against his scales.

For the first time Grey's expression shifted as he realized he was fucked, even before a voice said to him, "Did you really think it would be that easy?"

Chills made their way down Grey's spine as he turned his head and saw Samuel-motherfucking-Oak standing there. Except, this was not the happy-go-lucky, grandfatherly old man that the current Kantonians knew and loved. This was not the man known as the world authority on pokemon.

This was the man who once held the entirety of Kanto within an iron grip. Who reigned undefeated to this very day.

Standing before Grey, was the Champion Samuel Oak.

"Go Raticate!" Grey readily called out, even as he turned to try and flee.

However Grey only made it a few steps, when something large hit him from behind with enough force that he was sent sprawling to the ground.

"!!!"

A glance up showed Grey what had hit him, none other than the still twitching corpse of his Raticate. And in the distance, he saw the true alpha Beedrill as she fell from the sky and crashed into the ocean.

But any thought of either was driven from Grey's mind as he heard two words come from the man behind him.

"Dragonite, kill."
