Chapter 143: Spike Ball Pokémon

~Third POV~

[Johto Region, Ecruteak City, Pokémon Center – Battlefield]

A small crowd of onlookers quickly gathered, drawn by the promise of an exciting match. Gold lost two of his Pokémon, and Azure had a full 3 remaining.

Gold wasted no time. He shouted, throwing a Poké Ball into the air, "I'll show you what I'm made of! Exbo, let's go!"

*Pop*

With a roar, Typhlosion materialized, its fiery mane erupting in a blaze of scorching heat. The air crackled with its energy.

Azure took a deep breath as he thought calmly, eyeing his Pokémon, 'Gold finally using his Typhlosion. Let's ruin his day, shall we?'

He reached for his own Poké Ball. He grinned as he tossed his Poke Ball and yelled, "Pupitar, take the stage!"

*Pop*

Pupitar emerged, its rock-hard body gleaming in the fading light. It let out a defiant roar, its smaller stature a stark contrast to Typhlosion's imposing presence.

Azure said, his voice calm and steady as he said confidently, "Alright, Pupitar. Show them what you can do!"

The stage was set. The clash between the fiery starter and the evolving rock-type was about to begin.

Azure commanded, hoping to dictate the pace of the battle, "Pupitar, use Agile Style! Rock Throw!"

*RMBL*

Pupitar gathered a handful of rocks and hurled them at Typhlosion with surprising speed, alarming the Volcano Pokémon. But Gold countered instantly, "Dodge it, and use Flamethrower!"

*Sssss*

Typhlosion nimbly dodged the incoming barrage, its fiery eyes fixed on Pupitar. With a roar, it unleashed a torrent of flames, a searing inferno that engulfed the battlefield.

Azure's eyes widened. He felt the heat radiated off from Typhlosion's power as he thought, impressed, 'Amazing! Despite its young appearance, with its Exbo evolving, Gold has raised his Pokémon well. But…'

Shifting his voice, he spoke a bit more seriously as he said, "Pupitar, brace yourself! Use Protect!"

*CLANG*

Pupitar quickly enveloped itself in a shimmering green barrier, just as the flames reached it. The Protect move held, but the heat was intense, causing Pupitar to tremble.

Azure yelled, seizing the opportunity, "Now, Pupitar, use Rock Slide!"

*Rmbl*

Pupitar, still shaking from the heat, summoned a massive tomb made of rocks around Typhlosion, trapping it within its rocky prison. Gold frowned as he thought, 'The heck is the guy planning to trap my Exbo?'

Gold roared, his voice echoing across the field, "Break free, Exbo! Flare Blitz!"

*Sssss*

Typhlosion, with a desperate roar, channeled its flames into a blinding aura, enveloping itself in fire and charging head-on into the rock slide. The force of the impact was tremendous, shattering the rocks into pieces.

*BOOOM*

The clash sent shrapnel flying in all directions. Pupitar, caught in the blast, stumbled backward, wounded. It struggled to regain its footing, its rocky exterior now chipped and scarred.

Azure bit his lip, assessing the situation. Typhlosion was powerful, but the Flare Blitz had taken its toll, leaving it visibly weakened.

This was his chance. He decided, his voice ringing with determination, "Pupitar, one last shot! Strong Style! Earthquake!"

*RMBL*

Pupitar, summoning its remaining strength, stomped its feet, unleashing a cataclysmic tremor that shook the entire battlefield. The ground buckled and cracked, sending tremors through Typhlosion's weakened body.

Typhlosion, already battered from the Flare Blitz, collapsed, its fiery mane dimming. It struggled to get up, but the Earthquake had done too much damage.

*Thud*

Jasmine announced as Gold went to retrieve his exhausted Pokémon, "Typhlosion is unable to battle! Pupitar wins!"

Gold's eyes widened in disbelief as he spoke to Exbo in a soft tone, "Exbo! You okay there, buddy?"

Typhlosion turned its head to Gold and nodded lightly, "Ty…"

Smiling, he recalled Exbo into his Poke Ball as he took in a deep breath. After the battle, Gold puffed his cheeks, reluctantly handing over the Pokémon Egg to Azure.

Azure felt a strong life force within the Pokémon Egg as he said calmly, "Don't worry, I'll take good care of it."

Azure placed the egg in his arms as he used the Viridian Force to feel its life force. He smiled, assured it was healthy.

Afterward, Azure left the battlefield as he returned to the Pokémon Center. Gold could only watch as Azure left with the Pokémon Egg with clenched fists as he thought, 'Damn it!! He was like that Masked Man! He totally controlled the flow of battle with his moves while I struggled to get by…'

Gold eyes looked down as he recalled the training he'd done in the Pokémon Day Care, helping a Couple retrieve the Baby Pokémon that escaped from their place. After doing so and explaining his goal of searching for someone, he was provided a chance to grow stronger.

Although the Old Lady was using Gold to help the rowdy Pokémon in their care, he learned and trained from them, gaining experience. And when Jasmine arrived to see the Togetic that she left behind their Egg with Gold, she was thankful for him taking such great care of Togepi.

In the process, Jasmine lent a hand in helping Gold with their training and helped Gold realize the reward he got from the Couple using the King's Rock to evolve his Poliwhirl into Politoed. Gaining such momentum and tough training, he managed to gain a lot of levels for his Pokémon and a Sun Stone to evolve his Sunbo.

But when he heard rumors of Azure Sky, the Champion of Kanto and Johto battled Silver he went to get information from him. Unfortunately, despite his training, a new team he was defeated him harshly.

Gold sighed as Jasmine stared at Gold in a 'kind' tone, "Gold… it seems like we need to talk about your recklessness. Come."

Gold felt shivers run down his spine at Jasmine's kind tone. He thought in a depressed tone, 'Oh, I'm so fucked.'

[Johto Region, Ecruteak City, Pokémon Center]

After battling, Gold Azure and his Pokémon were inside the Pokémon Center Cafeteria Lounge for trainers. Azure carefully stirred the stew of Sitrus Berries and Leppa Berries, the aroma filling the Pokémon Center kitchen.

His Pokémon, gathered around the table, watched with rapt attention. It wasn't just a meal; it was a bonding ritual, a tangible expression of his care and gratitude growing strong together.

The egg, nestled in a specially designed incubator he'd fashioned from insulated blankets and a heating pad, was the source of much anticipation. Ever since winning it from Gold, Azure had been meticulously researching and providing the optimal conditions for its hatching.

He pored over books detailing Pokémon eggs, temperature requirements, and nutritional needs. His dedication was unwavering.

He finished preparing the meal and dished it out, making sure each of his Pokémon received a portion suited to their dietary needs. Ursaring devoured hers with gusto, while Weavile picked delicately at hers.

Even the eternally stoic Pupitar cracked a small smile. Azure said, wiping his hands on his apron, "Alright, everyone. Let's check on our little friend."

He carefully retrieved the incubator and placed it on the table. The egg, warm to the touch, vibrated slightly.

Anticipation hung thick in the air, almost palpable. He took a deep breath as he felt it with his Viridian Force.

By supplying his life force, he could quicken the hatch rate of Pokémon Eggs. And he felt the large life force wanting to sprout out from the Egg. This was it.

*Crack*

Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed through the room. Then another, and another, until the eggshell was riddled with fissures.

*Crack*

*Crack*

All eyes were glued to the incubator. With a final, decisive crack…

*CRACK*

… a small, light-yellow Pokémon with a rounded, egg-shaped body. After hatching from its Egg, its body remains encased in its eggshell. That shell has a white base color, and rounded, mostly unfilled shapes (with thick borders that are either red or blue) dot the shell on all sides.

Sticking out of its shell, it has stubby, rounded cone arms and round feet with two toes each. It has thin, black, oval eyes with thin, black arcs on their outer sides. Its head has five round-tipped, conical spikes that seem to form a crown.

It also has semi-oval, brown pads on the soles of its feet. Its large, innocent eyes blinked, taking in the world for the first time.

Azure exclaimed, his face breaking into a wide grin, "Togepi!"

He gently scooped up the tiny Pokémon, its soft fur tickling his palm. Togepi chirped happily, reaching out with a tiny hand and grasping Azure's finger.

Pikachu nuzzled against his leg, emitting a soft, contented sound. Eevee, usually reserved, cautiously approached, sniffing the Togepi with curiosity.

The other Pokémon drew closer, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and protectiveness. Even the formidable Ursaring seemed to soften, her usually stern gaze melting into a gentle watchfulness.

Azure held the Togepi close, feeling a surge of warmth and protectiveness wash over him. This was more than just a new Pokémon; it was a new member of his family as he whispered, his voice filled with affection, "Welcome to the team, little one. Welcome to Johto."

The Togepi cooed in response, its tiny hand still gripping his finger. Azure knew, with absolute certainty, that this was only the beginning.

Their journey had just become even more exciting, more challenging, and infinitely more rewarding. He had a new friend to protect, to nurture, and to guide on the long road ahead. And with his team by his side, Azure Sky was ready for anything.

The warm glow of the Pokémon Center kitchen and the soft chirp of the newborn Togepi filled the room with a sense of belonging, a promise of adventure, and the unwavering bond of family. Ursaring began to feed the Togepi with Moomoo Milk as it happily chirped, "Togi! Togepi!"

Azure chuckled, seeing a new side to Ursaring as he mentally chuckled, 'Hahaha… our resident Mama Bear huh?'

Azure harmlessly shook his head as he took out his Arc Phone as he thought checking about her bio, 'At least I have another future team member for Sinnoh and powerful ally in the future… Jasmine is gonna be so pissed at him.'

[Togepi the Spike Ball Pokémon. Togepi can retract into its shell, which it usually does to sleep, and is known to roll around in its shell while sleeping. It can siphon the positive energy of others, storing that happiness in its shell, and then release it to those in need of it.

Togepi can release poison from the spikes on its head, which it uses to chase away enemies. It has a very joyful nature. As a result, it is said that it shares its joy with those who take care of it.

Because of its disposition, Togepi is seen as a sign of good luck, especially if a Trainer can get a sleeping Togepi to stand. Togepi's innocent smile is said to calm the soul. Togepi can act very maliciously at times, causing havoc and bad luck to its enemies.

When necessary, Togepi can fly or levitate despite lacking wings. Togepi are born within the Togepi Paradise and appear to humans to spread kindness – it is rare in the wild, but can most commonly be found in forests. After its mission of spreading kindness is complete, it will eventually return to the Togepi Paradise.]

Reading the bio and info, Azure smirked, seeing another future member on his team. Checking his Arc Phone, he began to read the information about raising the Togepi line as he muttered curiously, "Heh. Green is gonna be jealous. But for now, let's raise this little girl right, gang?"

All his Pokémon nodded happily, agreeing with Ursaring cradling the Baby Pokémon. Togepi cheered happily, "Togi! Togepi!"
