Chapter 133: Karate King Kiyo [Bonus]

~Azure S. POV~

[Johto Region, Route 42 – Mt. Mortar]

Holding out the Metal Coat I had on me, the Onix eyes looked at it, seemingly wanting it triggered by instinct. Seeing Onix get close to the Metal Coat as I saw a pop-up screen show up.

[Would you like to use [Metal Coat] on Onix?]

[Yes/No]

Asking Onix if it wanted to evolve, it gazed, intensified, looking at me as it roared, "!? Raooor!"

Smiling at this, I accepted with a yes as I placed the Metal Coat over Onix. And the miracle of evolution occurred as my Onix began to shine bright as the Metal Coat infused into Onix's evolution.

*Shiii*

Onix's form began to shift and change. It grew longer, and its rocky exterior, once rough, now looked slick around the edges, turning into a Steelix. The light soon fades to reveal the Iron Snake Pokémon in place of Onix.

Steelix is a long, serpentine Pokémon with a silvery-gray body made of rock-like sections, which can possess chips and scrapes from fights and tunneling. Three of those sections have long rock spikes coming out of them on either side. It has a massive head, mainly made up of its large, wide jaw with sets of large, square teeth inside.

Along its bottom jaw are ridges: there are two pairs of ridges on a male Steelix, while there is only one pair on a female. Several small, square lumps cover the underside of its lower jaw. Its eye sockets are slightly deep-set, and the eyes themselves are red.

Its head has two long ridges going from the eyes up to the top of its head. The tip of its tail is conical with a blunt tip.

*RMBL*

Taking out my Arc Phone, reading my new Pokémon bio, Steelix roared out loud as the cave rumbled, "Grrrah!!"

[Steelix the Iron Snake Pokémon. Steelix burrows up to six-tenths of a mile underground, even further than its pre-evolved form, Onix, and it can be found in mountains or caves. Steelix can dig even towards the world's core. It easily chews through boulders with its powerful jaws, and its eyes can see in the dark.

Exposure to underground heat and pressures alongside its iron-rich soil diet has made its body harder than diamonds. Steelix's Evolution is said to have been the result of an Onix's composition becoming more diamond-like after living for about 100 years. Steelix is known to sleep in an upright position. As noted by researchers, it can maintain this superb balance without even toppling over.]

|Name: Steelix (Iron Snake Pokémon)

|Type: Steel/Ground

|Level: 32

|Gender: Male

|Held Item: None

Perfect. Smiling Steelix leaned its big head down as I rubbed it using my Viridian Force to understand my new partner, "Congrats, big fella. Glad I can help you evolve into a mighty Steelix."

*Shiii*

Using my Viridian Force, Steelix grinned slyly, even wagging its tail in joy of evolving into something stronger. And giving him my Life Orb will only ensure this physical beast will live up to its potential.

Gazing upon Steelix memories my I expressed surprise that before encountering Onix, it met with another trainer training three Pokémon. Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and a young Tyrogue.

Realizing who this is, I asked Steelix curiously, surprising it with my question, "Steelix, you wouldn't happen to see a karate man training 3 Pokémon, have you now? Can you lead me to where he is?"

Steelix blinked, genuinely surprised, but nodded, allowing me to climb over his head. Flaaffy, Pikachu, Eevee, and Celebi followed suit as Steelix showed us where it last met the Karate Man.

If my knowledge is accurate, then the Karate Man must be the Karate King Kiyo. The Karate King, Kiyo, is the leader of the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, he has gone to Mt. Mortar to train.

To find him in the games, the player must use the center entrance, which offers access to water, then surf ahead and climb a waterfall. Then they must make their way to the bottom of the cave, where they will eventually find him waiting to be challenged.

Kiyo uses a Hitmonchan and a Hitmonlee, and once they are defeated, he will give the player a Tyrogue as a reward. However, if the player does not have an empty slot in their party, Kiyo will tell them to make room for it, then come back.

But I've heard of this guy before from the other Good Gym Leaders, how he got replaced when Sabrina curb-stomped his Gym. Not gonna lie, he was depressed after a while, losing his place to her.

*RMBL*

Returning to my objective, Steelix took me to where the man was after a few minutes of locating his previous place. To my surprise, I see the Karate King himself, Kiyo, as our eyes met as he yelled, halting his training, "Hey! I am the Karate King! I train alone here in the cave! You! Battle with me! Hwaaargh!"

Getting into a fighting stance, our eyes met, meaning a Pokémon battle. He sent his Fighting Types, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, as he ordered, "Hitmonlee! Brick Break! Hitmonchan! Drain Punch!"

Seeing his Pokémon lunge at me, I smirked as I gave Pikachu and Flaaffy a command, "Pikachu! Flaaffy! Strong Style! Thunderbolt!"

Both grinned as the Fighting Type Pokémon lunged at my Electric Types. But as the buildup lasted, both unleashed a devastating Thunderbolt at them, "PIKACHU!!! FLAAAFFYY!!!"

*ZZZZZ*

*KABOOOM*

Both were electrocuted on the spot as Kiyo's eyes widened as they fell to the floor. I ordered Steelix swiftly, "Catch them Steelix! Place them gently on the ground."

*Thud*

Managing to catch them before they fell to the ground, Steelix gently placed them down as Kiyo rushed forward with Tyrogue. But that wasn't all as my eyes turned to see Flaaffy's tail turn a deep red color as her body shined, roaring out, "Flaaa…. FFFYYYY!!"

*Shiii*

I smiled seeing that Flaffy finally made it to Lv30 thanks to Pikachu attacking the Lv34 Fighting Type Pokémon. The shine of the evolution is shown as Flaaffy loses her wool hair, changing into a powerful form.

I took out my Arc Phone, reading my new Pokémon's new form. Flaaffy the Wool Pokémon now changed into the Light Pokémon as it cried out, "Ammmp!!"

The light faded, revealing Flaaffy's new form. The Light Pokémon Ampharos.

Ampharos is a yellow, bipedal ovine Pokémon with a white belly. It has conical ears with black stripes and a red orb on its forehead. Its long neck has several black rings around it near the base. Its stubby arms resemble flippers, and each foot has a single white nail. It has a long, black-striped tail with a red orb at the tip.

[Ampharos the Light Pokémon. The orb on its tail can shine so bright that it can be seen from space. People have used the light as a beacon or to send signals across the ocean.

Ampharos is generally found in grasslands, though it can also be found on farms alongside its pre-evolved forms, Mareep and Flaaffy. The tail light of a sleeping Ampharos can sometimes be seen in the distance at night. The reason is due to Ampharos forgetting to turn off its tail light before going to sleep.]

|Name: Ampharos (Light Pokémon)

|Type: Electric

|Level: 30

|Gender: Female

|Held Item: [Magnet]

|Ability: Static

|Nature: Modest

|Moves: Reflect, Electroweb [A][S], Thunder Shock [A][S], Thunder Wave, Cotton Spore, Charge, Take Down, Electro Ball [A][S], Thunderbolt [A][S], Agility, Magnet Rise, Tera Blast [A][S], Confuse Ray, Protect (TM), Flash (HM), Outrage (IM), Thunder Punch (IM), Electric Terrain (EM) (6 Moves left to learn)

I smiled reading the bio about my Ampharos. But when I saw her status, I froze a bit, perplexed seeing the move Outrage being inherited?

Does it relate to her Mega Form? I did recall that, thanks to exposure to Mega Evolution, the genes within Ampharos awaken its long-sleeping dragon blood. Did exposure from Houndoom's Mega Evolution and others cause this?

Hmm… this is worth consideration, testing it out, Mega Evolving Ampharos. For now, I turned towards Ampharos, rubbing her long neck, congratulating her, "Congrats, girl, you evolved into Ampharos! With this, you can ask Pikachu how to master your inherited move Thunder Punch."

Ampharos chirped happily at the news, hugging Pikachu, "Amp!"

I snickered seeing Pikachu struggle to get away from Ampharos' flipper hug. Eevee chuckled at the scene along with Celebi.

Snickering at my partner's misfortune, I shifted my attention to Kiyo as he revived his Pokémon with healing items. Then he asked me in a disheartened tone, "Wragggh! I'm beaten! I… I'm crushed… my training is still not enough… but a loss is a loss. I admit it. As proof that you defeated me, I'll give you a rare Fighting-type Pokémon."

*Fwoosh*

Tossing a Poke Ball at me, I looked to see it was Tyrogue. And cue the pop screen text… There it is.

[Azure Sky received TYROGUE from Karate King!]

Handing me the rare Pokémon Tyrogue, the Karate King spoke up as he explained to me in a serious tone, "Tyrogue is a fighting type. It evolves into a tougher Pokémon, as this one is gifted. Keep up the hard work. I'll keep training too. Farewell!"

Turning around to leave, I see the little guy bow its head at me, ready to follow my command. Well… this was certainly an interesting experience to encounter the Karate King and this Tyrogue.

Checking my Arc Phone, I began to read its bio and status. And I have to say… that guy wasn't wrong when he said this Tyrogue was gifted.

[Tyrogue the Scuffle Pokémon. Tyrogue is a male-only species with no female counterpart. Tyrogue is famous for its eagerness to compete and boundless energy, to such an extent that it will challenge anyone, even larger foes.

This is the famous intense desire that Tyrogue is known for. Determined to make itself stronger, Tyrogue will not quit, no matter how many times it loses. While it is small, Tyrogue should not be ignored as it can slug a target without warning.

As a result, it is always nursing its injuries from fighting opponents larger than itself. As Tyrogue becomes stressed if it is not able to train every day, its Trainer must maintain a regular training schedule. It is usually found in urban areas. The training Tyrogue does influences its possible evolution into either Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, or Hitmontop.]

|Name: Tyrogue (Scuffle Pokémon)

|Type: Fighting

|Level: 10

|Gender: Male

|Held Item: [Black Belt]

|Ability: Steadfast

|Nature: Impish

|Moves: Fake Out, Focus Energy, Helping Hand, Tackle, Mega Kick, Low Kick, Mach Punch (IM), Hi Jump Kick (IM), Mind Reader (EM) (4 Moves left to learn)

Guess the guy wasn't kidding about this guy's potential. Not only was he nice enough to leave that Black Belt on Tyrogue, too.

[Observe].

[Item: Black Belt

Rarity Item: A

Type: Held Item

Description: An item to be held by a Pokémon. This belt helps with focus and boosts the power of the holder's Fighting-type moves by 20%.]

Heh. Taking this small detour provided me with plenty of great fortune ahead. Not only that, I have another fighting type that could be useful for Heracross to spar against.

Not only that, I gotta make sure to evolve this guy to Hitmontop. With Steadfast turning into Technician, it would be for the best.
