Playing Airbender (Legend of Korra SI)

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

[Airbending up to level 5]

[Agility +1 Points]

In fifteen days, that's what he got from intense training. Two levels in airbending, and one point in agility.

One freaking attribute point.

He felt like a total human waste.

But on the other hand, he had to look at the bright side.

He saved two skill points that he would get when leveling up twice.

So, that's not a totally bad deal.

Besides, he had learned a lot of tricks.

"Okay. Now, you can do a complete airbending combo," said Jinora.

"Yeah."

Akashi was standing in the middle of the training field.

He punched and kicked in the air, strong pressured air leaving the end of his limb and pushing strongly for one meter.

There were still tricks he couldn't do yet, like creating that air sphere and traveling with it.

That, and other tricks.

But he could shoot air projectiles easily now, and could do martial arts with airbending with quite a bit of difficulty.

There were still some artifacts that he couldn't get through, which Tenzin's kids could.

But if you compare his progress, he was quite a prodigy himself.

As for some of Tenzin's kids being very talented, well, consider this:

Some people who have been playing chess their whole life have their worst nightmare facing a kid in a tournament.

So he didn't let himself get sabotaged.

In fact, he felt that he was a quite decent airbender.

"Well, it took you some time, but you managed to get to a decent level. Not that much, but not bad for someone who trained only fifteen days," Jinora said proudly. "I'm proud to be able to raise you to this level."

Akashi tilted his head and smiled.

He didn't know if he should boost her ego or not.

But her ego was Tenzin's problem to deal with.

"Well, thanks to you, I'm at this level," he said.

And it was totally wrong.

It was thanks to everyone's guidance, and to the training artifacts that he managed to save two skill points.

But other than that, since Tenzin spent most of his week at the City's council, he got used to being around the kids.

The mother was quite happy that he was distracting them, while all she did was sit on the side, drinking tea, and watching him get tormented by the kids. They played occasional games with him, like shooting air projectiles and dodge. There was that air sphere race thing, but he couldn't participate in it.

"No, it's thanks to me. Akashi! Lying is bad!" Meelo came flying from nowhere and yelled.

"Sure thing, master," Akashi deadpanned. But the three- or four-year-olds wouldn't get it.

"That's right!" Meelo yelled.

"What about me?" Ikki, who was standing behind them, said.

"You've played the biggest part," Akashi said, holding his urge to yell.

He was literally babysitting his mentors for the last days.

"Hey, but you said me."

"No, he said I'm the best…"

The kids were about to start an argument.

But their mother appeared in time.

"Okay, enough with annoying Akashi on his last day," Penma said as she came and picked Meelo. She said to Akashi, "The kids like you. They're going to miss you."

"Yes, I'll miss them too. But I gotta work to do," replied Akashi. "Can't get my hire-ups mad at me."

"Lin Beifong must be harsh on you," Penma said. Was she trying to get him to badmouth her husband's ex? It's best to remain neutral.

"Oh, the chief… not talking about her. There are three or four more bosses before her," he sighed. "Anyways, I'll try to bring souvenirs for the kids next time."

"Hmm, thanks… Just be sure to talk with Tenzin in advance. We may visit his mother, and you won't find anyone," she advised.

'Must be harsh to travel from the Northern Earth Kingdom to the South Pole on a flying bison. I wonder how long it would take,' Akashi thought.

He exchanged a few words with the family before Tenzin arrived with the flying bison to take him back to the city.

Just before leaving, Akashi had one of the White Lotus Order waterbenders heal his face from scratches. You know, sometimes kids get playful and use their nails. The youngest ones use sharp tools instead of nails.

As Akashi arrived at the city, Tenzin put him next to his apartment on the flying bison.

Akashi jumped off.

"Just make sure to practice at every given chance. That's how you get better," Tenzin said.

"I'll keep that in mind."

"Also, don't pay mind to what the kids are telling you," he added. "They have been training way longer than you did, and you're progressing faster."

"Sure thing," Akashi said. "I'll come to visit you at the council when I get time."

"Be sure to do so," he said. "Anyways, I'm running late. See you later, air nomad."

He then turned and flew away with his bison.

Akashi looked at the huge bison in the sky.

For a very long time, during the last fifteen days, he had an urge to scream at Tenzin for arriving at his house with a huge bison.

Akashi had wanted to keep his address from the public now that his identity as an airbender had been exposed. Especially since many people were curious about him and others wanting to do research on him.

But since Tenzin had arrived with a flying bison at his apartment that day, he knew that someone would make connections. And the last thing he wanted was journalists harassing him at his private domicile.

'Anyways, the people in power know where I live. My address is in the files at the police station. I need to rent this place as soon as possible and move to the outskirts,' he thought as he entered his house.

He walked around and looked for signs of breaking in or sneakingly opening the door.

Everything was in place. The place was dusty but not dirty… some airbending could clean it. The papers on the door edge were still stuck there.

It was a relief that no one seemed to have found out his address yet.

He sat on his couch, and an overwhelming sensation took over him.

"Finally." He cheered. It felt like he'd spent years without hearing kids screaming. "The peace."

He stood up, went to the fridge, and grabbed some dried meat and cold beer.

The beer was for training his poison resistance skill, and the meat was because he missed the protein… from these two statements, one was the truth, and one was a lie.

'Fifteen days no smoke, no drugs, no smoking. Great. I should start picking up cases.'

"Okay, it's nice to have a desk and not have to stand up the whole time," Akashi let out a long whistle, looking around his colleagues in their shared office. There was some specific individual who had gone after him in the past, and now, it was time to troll them back.

"I hope I don't turn fat!" he said, looking at Amane.

She clenched her jaw muscles but didn't say anything, as she didn't have proof that he was talking about her.

"Just hope you don't transfer STDs to anyone," she huffed.

Akashi smirked.

She, after some time, started touching the sides of her belly.

Akashi smirked as he grabbed a file case handed to him by his lieutenant. It was his first case that he had to do as a detective.

"Okay, so, we have a human trafficking report. Last day, at the port, when everyone vanished after the police arrived, as if they were ghosts." He flicked the paper. "Interesting."

Despite this world being similar to his previous world, the similarity wasn't perfect.

Here, they didn't have advanced nerd guys to tech biological leads from the crime scene and analyze them. The court didn't even accept that.

"Guess I should do it the old style."

Akashi stood up. "Amane, I need to go to a crime scene, the human trafficking case."

"Ask someone else."

"You're the sergeant. It's my first job as a detective, and by the law, it's your job to escort me."

"I've been there yesterday. There's nothing we can work on," she said, waving her hand. "Besides, no one is going to approve your extra budget. You should just have to do field job."

"Not wasting a chance to mock me." He sighed. "Listen, the only reason I need you is to drive the car. And if you don't come with me despite me insisting, I'll report you to the lieutenant. I think you don't want that on your file."

He didn't have a driving license in this world, but she did. That's why he needed a partner temporarily.

If there's something this girl cared about, it's career. And if there's something she hated, it's black spots on her career. No one read the reports and complaints on the cops in this department unless it's very serious. But some career-oriented people could get very annoyed with reports. It was like a fishbone in the back of their throats.

"If you don't find anything, I'll file a report for wasting expensive time and human resources." Amane rolled her eyes and stood up.

"I think you're overpricing things," he commented.

"Whatever," she said.

Standing at a very large warehouse, Akashi put his hands on his hips. Behind him, there were two other police cars; the sergeant had brought them along for help.

Around the site, there was yellow tape.

And around it, there were some people who came to pry. It's always curiosity-grabbing to have cops around. Yet no one snitched.

In his hand, there was a spray.

"I still wonder what that spray has to do with the crime scene," she said.

In this world, people could create cars, airships, advanced ships, and missiles. Someone could even make robots.

To create such things, basic and advanced chemistry should exist.

Even to create car wheels, complicated processes have to exist. And thus, he believed that some products should exist in this world.

And that little detail didn't escape his mind.

The chemistry was quite advanced, but forensic medicine has yet to be used.

He held the spray bottle, which contained luminol. He could buy it from a chemistry lab on the way. If met with hidden blood, it could oxidize and make light. This was something criminals in this world didn't know about yet.

"Okay… this is nearby a seaport, so logically, if there were human traffickers here, they would escape by the sea, and would get chased by the navy. But no such thing happened," commented Akashi.

"The case is about to get closed. There is a lack of evidence, other than everything has been flipped upside down," she said.

"Not necessarily." Akashi spotted a black spot in the corner.

He walked to it and bent down, sniffing it.

"This is your lead?" she followed him.

"Smells like coke, and a cigarette," he commented. "If I were working here, and heard the police coming, I would throw it right there." He pointed at one side, behind a box, and grabbed a cigarette butt. He read the name of the brand, and then grabbed the spray and sprayed it around.

Shiny blue-purple patterns emitted faint light.

"Okay. It seems that someone was smoking here, and somehow, got his hand wounded. A few blood drops here and there." Akashi continued working, spraying the ground and following the blood droplets. "From the pattern, it seems that he was walking here. Oh, look, more blood splashes. Someone got punched in the face, and got dragged… to here." Akashi continued marching until he was above a huge pile of trash, wood, metal, and all.

Anyone would think that they threw trash here.

"What kind of nonsense are you doing? You just sprayed that, and all that."

"Yeah…" Akashi waved his hand as he turned to the people watching out of the tape, "Hold the people around, and detain anyone who smells like a cigarette. If there is a wound mark on their hand, interrogate them. And grab some people to move the pile here. I believe that the people are hiding down there."

Someone was already trying to slip away.

Akashi smirked.

There was his chance to gain some experience points.

He turned and ran toward him, bending the air around his feet, gaining a small push with each kick backward. He may not have mastered airbending, but he was creative enough to use it in certain ways.

Gaining a push from the air, Akashi, in no time, caught the man who started running. The man stopped and looked at Akashi, startled.

He yelled, "What the hell are you following me for?"

"Why are you running?"

"Is that your business? I'm late for my work!"

"So, you don't mind if I smell your hand?"

"What kind of pervert are you?"

"The handsome kind," he said, grabbing the man's hand. Around the finger, there was a wound mark, probably by the edge of a coke can. Akashi grabbed it, sniffed it, and definitely smelled like a cigarette. His hand reached the suspect's pocket, grabbing a pack of cigarettes. And fair enough, it had the same brand name as the one he had found.

"Okay. You're now suspect number one. Next time, don't come back to the crime scene," he said.

"Why you?" clenching his teeth, the man didn't try to deny it. Instead, he attacked Akashi with a handful of fire, punching it to his face.

Reacting faster than usual, Akashi tilted his head to the side.

He kneed the man in the nuts before twisting his waist and turning him upside down, followed by a quick punch to the cheek, and pinning him with a knee.

Akashi thought of a creative way to use airbending in this situation.

He could simply pressure air to the man's air by clapping on it, and that should kill him instantly.

But he couldn't do for no reason.

"A metalbender for the cuffs please," Akashi said as he turned around.

Everyone was looking at him with some kind of shock before a metalbender approached, cuffed the man, and took him away.

The pile in the corner of the room was cleaned, leaving a normal-looking floor under it.

Amane bent the earth, creating a hole in it, which led to a tunnel.

"Look at that, if it's not an underground tunnel," Akashi smirked. "Everyone, don't forget to report that I'm the one who discovered that."
