Chapter 13: 12: Fallen Temple Case(1) [Arc 2. Sinful colors]
'Don't bully my onee-chan,' the tiny voice from the little elf. She maintained her warm hands on my face. "Hold up FBI," I thought.
The sudden mingle left my head spinning. I narrowed my glance and stared at Kimberly, who was smirking. I knew that she was enjoying seeing me in this predicament, caught between punishment and indulgence.
A gleaming arrow of sound emerged from the doorway, and a man with golden hair and brown eyes smiled with a gentle face. "I see. I'm sorry to bother your time, Your Majesty and Your Highness. I'm here because I heard the news of an intrusion," he said, bowing with respect. "I would like to intervene in your decision and propose a better idea," he added, rubbing his chin.
"Oh, ⁵[Marquez The Wise], I'm glad you're here. I want to hear your thoughts!" The king muttered.
A: ⁵[Marquez The Wise] is a title of being the oldest living elf. The elf who was holding this title had a strong position in the elven kingdom. They were the advisor of the royal family and the highest judge of the Elven Supreme Court.
"Thank you for your understanding, My Majesty." He bowed again and glanced at me and Lhara. "Princess Mia, I'm glad of your brave action," he patted the little elf's head.
"Thwank ywou, elder Jhowwn." The little elf muttered, smiling happily.
"Now, the two intruders have violated the first rule in the Rules of the Land. They deserve to be punished with a right verdict. Although we know that they crossed the border with innocence, I want to give them a right call," he said with a gentle look.
He then put a brown wood on the table. "For that sin, I want them to work under the Princess's name and become her bodyguards for the rest of their lives."
"What?" I shouted in shock and disbelief. "I don't want to become a babysitter for the rest of my life," I muttered to myself.
The elder man gazed at me with sharp and piercing eyes. "Aren't you satisfied, young man? Or do you want to die right now?"
I swallowed my saliva with a disappointed expression. I knew I could escape at any time, but I wanted to hide my power and live peacefully. "Give me a break. I knew that we violated that rule of... whatever it is, but working for the rest of our lives is a brutal punishment..." I tried to explain my side, but the old man intervened.
"That is enough for the two of you. It is better than death," he muttered with dedication.
"That is worse than dying," I countered.
"Onwwee-chawwwn, downt you want to play with me?" The little elf muttered with a crying voice.
The king quickly went down and grabbed my shirt. "Don't make my precious daughter cry, or I will kill you!!!" He threatened me with his cold gaze.
Lhara raised her hand with an embarrassed expression. "Can you at least lighten the punishment?" she mumbled and grabbed my shoulder. "Please take your hands out of his shirt. You're hurting him," she muttered with narrowed eyes. "I've...
The king quickly released my shirt and went back to his old position, his ears looking down.
"Hahahah, you deserve my respect, girl," the queen muttered with a satisfied face. "My husband deserves to be punished later!" The queen muttered with a quick smirk.
"Sigh..., I will let you two work with my daughter as bodyguards, but if you two fail to protect her against the threats of nature, think that your heads are in my palm," the queen mumbled with a serene atmosphere. "You will work for 5-10 years. Is that okay?" The queen asked with hunter eyes.
I thought for a second. I knew that staying in the elven kingdom had a lot of advantages. I could learn some useful knowledge from them, and I could also enhance my skills and explore the truth behind my abilities.
"I accept my punishment!" I declared. "How about you, Lhara?" I glanced at her and asked with a solemn mask.
"As long as I'm with you, it's okay. I followed you, so I'm prepared for the consequences. I also accept my punishment!" She mumbled with acceptance.
"It looks like everything is settled," the elder man muttered. He then proceeded to walk in front of me. "Can I ask your view, little guy?" He asked me with a sharp knife of eyes piercing through my head.
"What are the basic elements to succeed in life, knowledge or experience?" He asked with sparkling eyes.
I thought for a few seconds and glared at his brown pupils. "Both are essential. Knowledge can lead you to the path of understanding. It will give you a better sight to see your path clearly. Meanwhile, experience will lead you to the path of resilience. It will make your mind and body prepared to take the damages of life."
I paused for a second and continued my answers. "Knowledge is useless without application. Getting knowledge and throwing it away after eating it is a stupid action. It's the same with experience. Repeating the wrong mistake twice or thrice is a symbol of stagnation. It is better to jump off a cliff than to hold on to a lie of life," I retorted, maintaining my glare and staying silent.
"Bravo, you have a good mindset, boy... Can you also work under my presence?"
I ignored him because I knew from his pervert eyes what he wanted. He was old and didn't have the same mindset as his surroundings, so he was looking for someone with the same views as him.
'I'm not old enough to play my time with you,' I thought with a disappointed expression.
"Yeyy, I cwan play with onwwee-chawwwn, let's play awwtside onwwee-chawwwn." The little elf grabbed my hands and dragged me out of the room.
"I'm still glad that there was no FBI agent here," I silently muttered while walking beside the tiny Princess. The king and the queen also followed us outside. "Wait, Miku!!!" Lhara shouted, holding her chest while running.
Meanwhile, in the palace of the Empire of Lionaris, the king and queen were standing in front of the door, waiting for the maid to come out. "Your Majesty, the Princess is already conscious!" The maid gladly shouted.
They quickly ran towards the white bed of the sleeping Princess. Princess Selva was sitting up, and her tears were flowing down her red cheeks. "Father, mother, I'm sorry..... Areina...is..gone..." The two looked at each other with gloomy faces.
"Selva, I'm so sorry. We aren't deserving parents for you...." The queen muttered, her tears also flowing down her cheeks. The king gritted his teeth. "I'm sorry, my daughter. I couldn't rescue you earlier and caused you trouble..."
"No, father, it's my fault for being a recklessly daughter!" She mumbled, her voice hazy. "I'm so sorry, Areina, Cry... I couldn't save the two of you..."
After the tearful day, Princess Selva took her courage and strength to make her report. Inside a room decorated with florescent lights and colorful gems, the important people in the kingdom were all present: all branches of the kingdom, the church leaders, the adventure guild leaders, and even the prophets.
Princess Selva finished her report and silently sat down in her chair. Everyone sat in silence, waiting for someone to speak up.
"So, who killed the White Devil?" The prophet with a light scarf asked with a confused face.
"He was strong enough to kill the royal family of Tanozo, and now he died brutally without cause?" The Duke of Marlborough muttered, gritting his teeth.
"Princess Selva, you said before that you acquired the skills of the light hero [Excalibur Strike] and passed out before even using it. How come the hundred thirty-two bandits, in exact numbers, were annihilated?" Bishop Martin asked with a disaster glare.
"Are you sure that you have no memory of using that skill?" He added with disbelief.
"Yes, I don't have any memories of unleashing that skill," the Princess firmly stated.
Everyone stayed silent after her response. "Ehhmm," the Supreme Knight disturbed the silence.
"Oh, Rafael Caballero, the Supreme Knight, do you want to say something?" The queen muttered with a curious look.
The knight looked at his paper. "Excuse me, but I think I have an important report." The knight paused.
"You may state your report," the queen muttered.
"Thank you." He bowed his head and continued with his report. "According to the reports of the other knights present at the rescue operation, they encountered a dark mist barrier around the Fallen Temple."
Everyone murmured in panic after hearing the knight's report. "Dark mist barrier?!! Do you mean a Domain?" The bishop asked with a little curiosity in his face.
"Yes, it would like that!" He flipped his paper to the other page and muttered. "The report says that 13 bandits died because of the severe wounds they took, including the White Devil. However, the remaining bandits died without any wounds, but they looked drained." He closed the report paper and sat down.
Everyone in the room murmured with shock and panic. "What does it mean?" The Duke muttered with a disappointed expression while slamming the table.
"Duke Rian, calm down. This is bad for your health," the guild leader of the Adurza Guild muttered. "Indeed, it was a great mystery!" He added.
"I've contacted the White Devil before," the bishop revealed. "We have a gist that they were planning a sacrificial ritual, so I came to warn him." The bishop explained.
"I know that the church can't intervene with immoral things, but you did a great job, Mister Bishop," the Duke muttered with a compliment.
"It looks like they've succeeded and failed at the same time. Whahaha," the Bishop laughed with a smirk.
Suddenly, a maid hurriedly entered the room and mumbled, "Excuse me, but the prophets are called by the Supreme Prophet. She needs them as soon as possible."
