Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Magnet Release Ninja, Incoming!
Chapter 50: Magnet Release Ninja, Incoming!
Although the thought had crossed his mind, Genichi was not so brainless as to go looking for her directly, or even to ask around.
"Everyone, this is where you will be resting. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. I will be right next door," Mui said with a smile as he led Genichi's group into a courtyard.
Sakumo nodded. "Thank you for your trouble."
Mui bowed respectfully, then withdrew from the courtyard.
Sakumo immediately gave his orders. "Two to a room. Do not go out unless absolutely necessary."
Genichi and his two teammates nodded. Subsequently, Uchiha Namiichi and Yamanaka En took one room, while Genichi and Hatake Sakumo took the other. However, Sakumo did not go back to his room to rest, instead sitting upright in the living room. Genichi went to his room and immediately fell asleep. In the other room, Namiichi and En did the same.
At 4 PM, Genichi woke up fully rested. After washing up, he took over for his master, Sakumo, and sat in the living room, forming the "Kai" seal with his hands to comprehend the power hidden within the Art of Kai.
At 5 PM, Namiichi and En also got up. After washing up, they sparred with taijutsu in the courtyard, careful not to disturb Genichi.
At 6 PM, Mui appeared again, leading people who brought a sumptuous meal. However, none of the three touched it. Namiichi and En went out together and bought back some food of their own.
At 8 PM, Sakumo also woke up, and the four members of the squad ate dinner together. Not long after they finished, Mui appeared again and invited Sakumo to a meeting.
At 9 PM, Sakumo returned. En immediately asked, "Captain, who is this high-profile criminal we're escorting?"
Sakumo said, "A Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai user from the Cloud Village."
A Kekkei Genkai! The three of them were shocked. Genichi had some impression of a Magnet Release (Jiton) user from the Cloud Village, but he couldn't remember the name.
"It seems this mission won't be simple. A Magnet Release (Jiton) user must be a Jonin, right?" En said.
Sakumo nodded. "You must all be extremely careful and vigilant during the mission."
"Although the Grass Village has a secret technique to restrict the prisoner from using his chakra, we cannot be careless."
"En, when the time comes, you will be responsible for guarding the prisoner at close range."
En nodded. It was called protection, but in reality, it was a precaution.
Genichi then asked, "Sensei, is there any intelligence on this Magnet Release user?"
Sakumo said, "A Magnet Release (Jiton) Kekkei Genkai user combines Lightning and Earth nature transformations, allowing them to give their chakra magnetic properties."
"In the shinobi world, the Third Kazekage of the Sand Village has also mastered Magnet Release (Jiton)."
"It is said that a rising star has also appeared in the Sand Village who has also mastered it."
"As for this one from the Cloud Village, his name is Toroi. He specializes in imbuing others and their ninja tools with magnetic chakra, thereby allowing the tools to automatically track and attack the enemy."
Genichi immediately understood. This utilized the principle of magnetic attraction.
En said, "So, we absolutely cannot let this guy touch our bodies."
Genichi added, "Or have any indirect contact, for example, with his ninja tools."
Namiichi was even more direct. "If this guy dares to resist or escape, then En, you will kill him directly."
Genichi nodded in agreement. No one's life was more important than their own and their comrades'!
Sakumo also agreed with Namiichi's statement. "In short, on this mission, your own safety is the top priority. Whether the target reaches Hōzuki Castle or not is secondary."
"Yes, sir!" the three of them replied, nodding.
Genichi, however, had another thought. To get some blood from Toroi. And if possible, to draw some bone marrow. Although the possibility of a successful match was low, what if?
...
The night passed without incident. At 8 AM the next morning, after breakfast, Genichi's group met up with the prisoner escort team at the gate of the Grass Village.
The Grass Village had provided two squads. Mui, who had received them earlier, was among them. However, of the eight members of the two Grass squads, only one was a Jonin. The other seven were three Chunin and four Genin. This wasn't because of any obvious rank insignia, but something Genichi had observed from their speech and behavior. This was also very important intelligence.
They had no idea how many people the Cloud Village would send, or who they would be, so it was necessary to have a rough understanding of their own side's strength. Unfortunately, the Grass Village would not share the intelligence on their participating squads with them. Of course, even if they had, it absolutely could not be fully trusted.
After leaving the village, the group headed north. They would exit the Land of Grass from the north, then travel along the border of the Land of Waterfalls and the Land of Earth, heading north until they reached the sea. The journey wasn't actually that far. At a normal ninja's speed, they could reach the port in half a day. But now, with a high-profile criminal in tow, their speed was naturally much slower.
As for how the prisoner was being transported, it was of course in a covered wooden barrel, similar to how the Sound Four had transported Sasuke Uchiha.
At noon, the group rested at the border of the Land of Grass.
At 1 PM, they set out again, leaving the Land of Grass and officially entering dangerous territory.
As expected.
At 3 PM, En was the first to give a warning. "Captain, someone is approaching!"
"One, two, three... six people!"
Sakumo immediately gave an order. "Namiichi, you're with En."
Namiichi nodded, his figure speeding up to catch up with En up ahead.
Before long, figures appeared in the forest to their right.
"Lord White Fang, leave them to us," the Grass Jonin, Hidemi, shouted. He then led three Chunin away from the group, heading straight for the three enemies who had appeared on their right.
Soon, the sound of explosions came from behind them.
"Captain, there are people blocking the path ahead!" En shouted.
Sakumo commanded, "Enter the Land of Earth!"
En and the other five immediately took the prisoner and broke through the border into the Land of Earth. Sakumo and Genichi, however, accelerated, quickly passing them.
A short distance later, three figures appeared up ahead. One look at their attire and it was clear they were Cloud ninja. Three people: one standing on a tree branch, two standing on the ground, in a triangular formation.
And Genichi and Sakumo were one behind the other.
Genjutsu: Bringer-of-Darkness Technique!
Genichi suddenly appeared from behind Sakumo, having already completed the ninjutsu.
Instantly, all three Cloud ninja were deprived of their sight, plunged into absolute darkness.
"It's a genjutsu!"
"Watch out!" the Cloud ninja shouted, but Sakumo's figure had already split into three, his short sword flashing with a brilliant white light.
Clang!
Ting!
Spurt!
Genichi saw it clearly. One Cloud ninja blocked Sakumo's attack, another's sword was sliced in two, and the third had blood bloom from his chest. This all happened in an instant.
However, the one who died had also completed his final mission: he had broken the genjutsu for his other two comrades.
