Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Organ Transplants and Sensory Ninjutsu
Chapter 47: Organ Transplants and Sensory Ninjutsu
The exams were over. Kinoshita Genichi was ranked first, and his name once again spread far and wide.
Before, he was a "genius," but in reality, not many people knew of him. Now, things were different. After an outstanding performance in the Chunin Exams, one's name would quickly spread throughout the entire Konoha ninja community.
Before, Genichi had to act like a genius. Now, even if he said he wasn't one, no one would believe him.
Leaving the examination hall, Genichi's group saw Hatake Sakumo waiting for them under a tree and immediately went over.
"You all performed very well," Sakumo said with a smile, acknowledging their efforts. But then his tone shifted. "However, you all still have a long road ahead of you. You cannot become arrogant."
Genichi and the others naturally nodded in agreement.
Sakumo then looked at Kakashi's Jonin leader. "Yōkan, although the results will be out tomorrow, it's still early. Why don't we go and celebrate?"
The results would be announced tomorrow, but there was no doubt that Genichi and Kakashi would pass.
Mimura Yōkan nodded. "Kakashi and Genichi will definitely have no problem. Then let's celebrate together!"
Sakumo smiled. "Let's go. Yakiniku is on me!"
Genichi and the others immediately cheered and thanked him, then crowded around their two Jonin leaders and headed for the yakiniku restaurant.
Speaking of Kakashi's Jonin leader, Genichi also had an impression of him. He was the commander of Konoha's border defense force during the Third Great Ninja War. He was ambushed by Stone ninja and his unit was nearly wiped out, but was ultimately saved by Minato Namikaze. This was one of the battles that solidified Minato's path to becoming the Fourth Hokage.
But this didn't mean Mimura Yōkan was weak. Anyone who could become the commander of a border defense force could not be a weakling. And among Konoha's Jonin, there were no weaklings. He just didn't know what this Jonin specialized in.
At the yakiniku restaurant, while waiting for the meat, an idea struck Genichi. He asked, "Sakumo-sensei, can I take a leave of absence to travel outside the village for training?"
His words stunned everyone.
Sakumo looked at his outstanding disciple. "You want to go on a training pilgrimage outside the village?"
Genichi nodded. "Yes, sensei. I have this idea."
"I want to develop a series of genjutsu similar to the Bringer-of-Darkness, for example, to deprive the sense of hearing, or smell..."
"Also, I want to go out and see if I can find a suitable summoning animal."
Yamanaka En couldn't help but give a wry smile. "Genichi, aren't you in a bit of a hurry?"
"At this rate, you'll make us all look useless."
This time, even Uchiha Namiichi couldn't help but nod in agreement.
Genichi quickly explained, "It's not that I want to go right now."
"It's just preparation in advance."
He wanted to leave Konoha alone for more than just the reasons he listed. There were others. For example, to try and capture the Zero-Tails. Or to see if he could snatch the Samehada sword from the Mist Village.
As for waiting for an opportunity during the Third Great Ninja War? In a war of that scale, even if Genichi were a Jonin, he would have to follow orders. He couldn't just wander around on his own. Where he was sent for missions would not be up to him.
"A training pilgrimage outside the village is not a problem," Sakumo gave a positive answer, then said, "But Genichi, you are still too young right now. It's too dangerous to leave the village alone."
Genichi's strength wasn't bad, but what did it amount to in the grand scheme of the shinobi world? He was just a chunin. If he ran into a jonin, he would probably be killed. Especially now that Genichi was famous, the danger of him leaving the village alone had greatly increased. Don't think for a second that other villages wouldn't target and kill an enemy's genius.
Genichi obediently nodded. Of course, he wasn't planning on leaving the village now. He wasn't that arrogant.
The yakiniku soon arrived, and everyone began to chat and eat, the atmosphere lively and cheerful. After they finished, Mimura Yōkan suggested they all go to the hot springs, so the two squads went and soaked for half an hour. The relationship between the two teams grew even closer.
Leaving the hot spring house, everyone went their separate ways.
Genichi, however, did not go home. He strolled over to the Konoha Hospital, thinking all the while.
Shizune, as expected, was here, busy working alongside Tsunade. Besides Shizune, Genichi also saw a familiar figure.
Nohara Rin.
"Genichi-kun!" Rin was the first to spot him at the door.
Hearing the voice, Shizune quickly turned her head, her face full of smiles. "Genichi, are the exams over?"
"You passed with no problems, I'm sure!"
Rin also looked at Genichi with anticipation. She wanted to know how Kakashi did, although she was completely confident he would pass.
Genichi walked in and smiled. "Of course, no problem."
"Both Kakashi and I will definitely pass the exam."
A smile bloomed on Rin's face. "Amazing!"
"It was nothing, nothing!" Genichi said, a little smugly.
Shizune couldn't help but giggle. She knew Genichi was doing it on purpose.
Tsunade turned around at that moment. "You two, concentrate. And you, brat, if you're too idle, then get out."
Shizune and Rin quickly nodded and continued their work.
Genichi paid no mind to Tsunade's scolding. He walked over to her side, catching a faint scent, and asked, "Is there anything I can help with?"
Tsunade was not polite. "I'm planning to try an organ transplant on a lab mouse. You can help."
Genichi's eyes lit up. He nodded. "No problem."
He then went to get a white lab coat, cap, and mask, and then began to assist Tsunade.
The next day, the list of those who passed the Chunin Exams was released. As expected, the names of Genichi and Kakashi were on it. But Genichi didn't even go to see the results. He continued to work with Tsunade, until two days later when En came to find him.
It was time for a mission!
"What a laborious life!"
"I'm only seven years old! Child labor, this is too much."
Genichi much preferred training at the Konoha Hospital and at home. Fighting and killing... he didn't like it. The thrill of improving his strength and increasing his knowledge was far greater than that of killing people and completing missions.
At the village gate, Sakumo and the others were already waiting. Genichi apologized as he went up to greet them, and then they all left the village together.
"Genichi, now that you're a chunin, you can receive one C-rank ninjutsu from the village. Remember to go and get it when we get back from the mission."
Genichi obediently nodded. A C-rank ninjutsu was chunin-level difficulty. It wasn't bad at all.
En asked curiously, "Genichi, what jutsu are you planning to choose?"
"Water Release?"
Genichi shook his head. "I have enough Water Release jutsu."
En then suggested, "Perhaps you could try a sensory ninjutsu."
"With your high talent in genjutsu, a sensory ninjutsu shouldn't be a problem for you."
A sensory ninjutsu?
Genichi seriously considered it. When he was in the squad, he didn't need a sensory ninjutsu. En was a sensory ninja. But if he were out on his own, of course, the more well-rounded he was, the better.
However, was there a C-rank sensory ninjutsu? And did he really need to divide his focus to learn a sensory ninjutsu right now?
