Orochimaru’s Magic Lamp

Chapter 179: Chapter 179: The root is gone, the third Hokage should have fun

Thoughts spread like ripples through the underground roots of the sacred tree, traveling in all directions. Zetsu frowned slightly, voicing his concern.

"Are you trying to recruit Kabuto? He used to be one of Orochimaru's men. Be careful."

"It's a risk worth taking," Obito said slowly.

The Fourth Hokage, with his mastery of space-time ninjutsu… Orochimaru, whose sensory range spans vast distances… These are individuals who pose real threats.

To deal with Orochimaru, they first needed information—something Zetsu couldn't provide. Kabuto, who also wielded forbidden techniques, was the perfect opening.

Orochimaru had to be dealt with. If not, his presence in Konoha would continue to be a major obstacle.

"I understand," Zetsu nodded. He closed his eyes, receiving intel from his clone. Moments later, he said:

"Konoha has already dispatched people to chase Kabuto. Jiraiya is leading the team. If you want to lure him in, now is your best shot."

"No rush," Obito replied after a pause. "Let's wait a bit longer. Create enough traces for Konoha to follow, so they can find Kabuto soon."

"You want to…" A sly smile crept across Zetsu's face. "Leave it to me. Child's play."

He sank back into the tree trunk. Obito remained silent for a while before vanishing into a swirling vortex.

The moon hung high. Clouds and wind churned as a great flame shot into the sky, staining the night red.

Boom!

An earthen wall rose hastily to block the advancing inferno—but the flames easily melted through, leaving behind molten crystalized rock and continuing on its path of destruction.

Kabuto stood calmly on a treetop, watching the fire's origin with a faint smile.

"Master Jiraiya," he called, "I don't want to be your enemy. My target is Danzo and the Root. Why not let me go?"

"I won't kill you," Jiraiya said, the markings of Sage Mode appearing around his eyes. "But you must return to Konoha to stand trial."

"Unfortunately, I can't do that," Kabuto replied, licking his lips. "And Konoha has no right to judge me. The only one who can is Lord Orochimaru... but he's not here."

"You dare speak of Orochimaru?" Jiraiya's anger flared. "You attacked the Root and slaughtered your own comrades! Do you have any idea the damage this has done to him?"

Kabuto chuckled. "The Root ninjas... comrades?"

He laughed again, as if he'd heard a joke. "Not even Lord Orochimaru would care. Even the Third Hokage would probably laugh in private, knowing the Root was wiped out."

Jiraiya froze. He knew Kabuto wasn't entirely wrong. The Third always considered the Root a leftover poison from the old era. After passing the Hokage title to Minato, he'd even discussed how to weaken Danzo's power. As a close disciple, Jiraiya knew this better than anyone.

Still—while crippling Danzo was one thing, outright killing them? That was something else entirely. These people didn't die defending the village; they were cut down by one of their own.

"So this is what you meant by taking out the Root?" Jiraiya's voice sharpened.

"There's no point in debating," Kabuto said with a slight smile, seemingly unaware—or unconcerned—that he was now surrounded by Anbu.

Jiraiya could feel the sincerity in Kabuto's words. This wasn't some deluded ideology like Danzo's "for the village, all sacrifices are justified." But still—

"No matter what you believe, you won't escape today. Come quietly. I promise you won't be killed. When Orochimaru returns, I'll make sure you get a fair judgment."

"Appreciate the offer," Kabuto said with a smirk. "But Orochimaru-sama won't be able to help me this time."

His hands blurred into seals. The sage chakra he had long been preparing erupted.

"Sage Art: White Shock!"

A crimson serpent-shaped energy burst from behind him. From its mouth, a black sphere unleashed a blinding light, turning night into day.

Everyone's vision was overwhelmed. The two Uchiha in the squad—usually boasting superior eyesight—were especially disadvantaged.

And it wasn't just the light. A powerful sound followed, shaking their very bones.

Even the elite Anbu, hardened by countless battles, were stunned. With their senses stolen, only those in Sage Mode could act freely.

Kabuto moved effortlessly through the forest, eyes shut. He didn't confront Jiraiya—the real threat—but instead began eliminating the Anbu.

Shhh! Shhh! Shhh!

Kunai laced with toxins tore silently through the disoriented Anbu. No warning. No chance to counter.

Even Jiraiya, though mobile, wasn't accustomed to this kind of attack. Kabuto had the upper hand.

Before long, only two Uchiha remained standing.

Kabuto didn't open his eyes but sensed them—Shisui and Uchiha Shinsuke. He hesitated, then darted toward Shinsuke.

Shinsuke felt the incoming danger and bolted toward Shisui's last known position.

It was fast, but not fast enough. His blind evasion left him more vulnerable.

Still, Shinsuke believed stalling was death. Shisui was his only chance.

Kabuto charged, his poisoned kunai gleaming green.

Shisui's instincts screamed. His Sharingan flared, spinning rapidly. A green chakra avatar burst to life around him—Susanoo.

Clang!

Kabuto slammed into an invisible wall of chakra and was flung back. Shinsuke, mid-leap, also collided into the barrier.

But Kabuto twisted midair and landed on a treetop with ease. Shinsuke was not so lucky.
