Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Martial Saint Academy vs. East Arts Academy
As the host's voice rang out, Vincent Fox and the others stepped out of the waiting area.
"This way, please!"
At the entrance, staff were already waiting to guide them.
Under their lead, Vincent, Autumn Summer, and their teammates arrived at a strange gate shimmering with green light. The interior was filled with glowing energy, making it impossible to see what lay beyond.
"Only five contestants may enter," the staff member said.
Without hesitation, Vincent took the first step through the glowing portal.
The others quickly followed.
The green light flashed briefly—
And in the next moment, Vincent found himself standing atop a stone platform.
Right in front of him stood a massive crystal.
It was clear this was their team's base crystal, the very core they needed to defend.
Seeing this with his own eyes, Vincent couldn't help but feel a rush of awe.
Back in his past life, when he used to play "King's Arena" on mobile, never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that one day he would be standing inside the actual battlefield, fighting in person.
Soon after, Autumn Summer and the others appeared one after another.
All of them were freshmen and had never stepped foot inside the real King's Canyon. They couldn't help but look around in amazement.
Then came the announcement, booming across the canyon.
"Attention. Countdown: 10 seconds..."
Autumn immediately gave commands. "We'll go with a conservative strategy. Two lanes defend, one lane attacks. Zoe Harper, hold the top lane. Vincent, take the mid lane. The rest come with me to the bottom lane—we'll go on the offensive!"
They had discussed this tactic long ago.
Originally, Autumn suggested letting Vincent lead the offense.
But Vincent declined.
For the first match, he wanted to get used to the real battlefield layout.
All he needed was seven kills. Once he broke the enemy's mid lane, it'd be over.
And if Autumn's side couldn't hold up, he'd step in when the time was right.
"...3, 2, 1!"
As the countdown ended, the green barrier in front of them faded away.
The match had officially begun.
"Let's go, everyone!" Autumn called out, dashing toward the bottom lane with two teammates.
Her roommate, Zoe Harper, a burly and muscular girl, headed solo to the top lane.
Vincent walked calmly toward mid lane.
Outside the battlefield—
The viewers watching the livestream were all seeing this unfold in real time.
The commentator, Justine Walker, immediately spoke up. "Both teams have begun their maneuvers. Judging by their lane positions, both sides have opted for the traditional strategy—two lanes defend, one lane attacks. However, Martial Saint Academy has chosen to attack the bottom lane while defending the middle and top lanes. East Arts Academy, on the other hand, is going all-in on mid lane and defending the other two."
"Now this is interesting..."
"Typically, when strategies clash like this, it all comes down to which side can break through their attack lane faster."
As Walker explained the tactics, the online and in-person spectators began talking among themselves.
"Haha! Both sides are going with the same setup but attacking different lanes. This one could be fun!"
"What's so fun about it? You think Martial Saint Academy can go head-to-head with East Arts? Bro, you need more sleep."
"What's wrong with Martial Saint?"
"They're a no-name third-rate school. Almost all their students are normal. East Arts may not be a top-tier academy, but at least they recruited some with real hero talents."
"Yeah, every year Martial Saint gets eliminated in the first round. This year won't be any different."
"Shit… I didn't realize they were that bad."
"You sure? I heard Martial Saint has two prodigies this year. One of them even got the highest mission rating in a Forbidden Zone. Is that fake?"
"Heh, sounds like another clickbait headline from shady media. You actually believed that crap?"
"Guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. This is just going to be chicken fight versus chicken. Might as well take a nap."
"Don't be like that. Since we're already here, might as well get our money's worth."
While these conversations stirred in the outside world...
Inside King's Canyon, none of the participants had any idea what the spectators were saying.
Vincent casually looked around as he walked.
And why wouldn't he? He had seen this map a thousand times on his phone in his previous life, every curve etched into his memory.
But seeing it now, life-sized and real, was something else entirely.
What Vincent didn't know was that a trap was already being set for him.
Mid lane, East Arts Academy.
Three students were moving fast along their side.
One of them said, "Lily, once you reach mid lane, try to lure the opponent out of the energy tower's safety zone. Lee and I will hide in the side brush. As soon as he crosses that line, we'll jump him and take him out. If it goes well, we might even grab the tower before the first wave clears."
The girl named Lily nodded. "Got it!"
The three then split up.
Lily continued straight down mid lane.
The other two disappeared into the jungle, circling around into the grass on both sides of the path.
Meanwhile—
Vincent had just arrived at his second tower.
Ahead of him, the first wave of mechanical minions had spawned. Three bots marched forward in formation, heads held high.
Two carried blades, the third wielded a bow.
Vincent stood beside them as they marched. The minions didn't even acknowledge his presence, simply walking past as if he didn't exist.
Clearly, these were simple automated robots, running on a preset path.
Intrigued, Vincent moved in front of the third archer bot to block its path, curious how it would respond.
The robot simply shifted a few steps sideways, dodged him, and continued moving.
Since everything inside King's Canyon was being broadcast live—
Vincent's little "experiment" was caught on camera and seen by every viewer.
"Looks like the student guarding mid lane for Martial Saint still has a childlike heart," the commentator said, trying not to laugh.
Of course he knew Martial Saint Academy.
A no-name, bottom-tier school that showed up every year just to get steamrolled.
Still, even by their standards, this was a first.
A student goofing off and playing with the minions during a serious match?
The audience erupted into laughter.
Meanwhile, the instructors from Martial Saint Academy all looked like they had eaten a lemon.
Their faces were anything but pleased.
