One Piece: Transforming The World With Technology

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Promise

With the arrival of the navy, the chaos in Loguetown came to an end.

Although the riot had been quelled, the town was left in ruins. The once prosperous town had almost turned into a wasteland.

The crude and brutal pirates knew nothing about building, but they were experts at destruction.

"Lieutenant Rex, take some men and put out the fire over there."

After finishing the arrest operation, Navy Major Yakovich was so busy that his heels were kicking the back of his head, leading the navy soldiers in post-battle work.

"Major Yakovich, a bounty hunter wants to see you."

Just as Yakovich was overwhelmed with work, a navy soldier came to report.

"Tell him to go to hell."

Yakovich roared without turning his head, then pointed to a burning building ahead and waved his hand. "A few men, follow me."

The reputation of bounty hunters was not good. Both civilians and the navy held some dissatisfaction toward this group.

"But..."

The reporting navy soldier grew anxious, but Yakovich gave him no chance to speak, taking a few men with buckets to rush toward the burning building.

At this time, Reddy walked over, holding a swaddled baby, with Ark and Mia following beside him. Behind them were two gene wolves carrying corpses.

The pirates who had caused the riot had been suppressed by the navy, and the gene wolves, those merciless killing machines, had been returned to the product warehouse. Only two were left, carrying the corpses of the pirate captains.

"I'm sorry, Major Yakovich, he..."

Reddy stepping forward to stop the pirates' atrocities was no secret in Loguetown. The five gene wolves were particularly distinctive, and the navy soldiers had already learned of this from other civilians.

Major Yakovich refusing to meet this hero left the soldier embarrassed, unsure how to explain it to Reddy.

"It's fine. I can wait."

Reddy, holding the swaddled baby, walked to the side and found a place to sit down with Ark and Mia.

"Doctor Reddy, are you really leaving?"

At the docks, Ark hadn't gotten a definite answer from Reddy and had been feeling down. Now, he couldn't help but ask again.

Mia finally understood. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked up at Reddy and said timidly, "I can work. I only need one piece of bread a day. Can you stay?"

In her young mind, adults abandoned children because they ate too much and couldn't do enough work.

"Why would you think that?"

Reddy adjusted his posture slightly to let the baby in his arms sleep more comfortably, then smiled at Mia. "I could stay in Loguetown and watch you grow up..."

Mia's face lit up with joy.

But Reddy's tone shifted. "However, if I choose to stay, I'll have to abandon many more children like you..."

"I get it, I get it."

Ark, still upset, interrupted Reddy and kicked the wall in frustration.

Now he believed Reddy wasn't a liar, and the utopia he described wasn't just empty words.

Reddy staying in Loguetown could indeed save orphans like them and give them a happy childhood, but the cost would be abandoning orphans elsewhere.

He wanted to be selfish and beg Reddy to stay in Loguetown, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Mia didn't think that far. Her tear-streaked face was full of hope as she chirped, "Do you want to create that paradise and make more people happy?"

"Of course."

Reddy raised an eyebrow and smiled, ruffling her hair.

Hearing this, Mia immediately looked at Reddy expectantly. "Can I come with you to create that paradise?"

At this, Ark kicked the wall again in frustration.

So annoying.

Even Mia thought of this, but I didn't.

Ark thought to himself, then turned to Reddy with hope.

But Reddy poured cold water on him. "The path to realizing this dream is full of thorns. You're not ready for that yet."

"I am ready."

Ark was indignant.

Among the orphans, he was the oldest and had to take care of the younger ones. He had suffered a lot and believed he could face any hardship.

"What I'll face next isn't the kind of pirates who caused the riot in Loguetown," Reddy said with a smile.

In this world, the most important thing for survival was strength.

The most important thing for creating a utopia was also strength.

He had once resented why his "golden finger" wasn't the kind that made him invincible from the start.

But now, he was ready.

His goal in coming to East Blue was to find the legendary pirate Golden Lion, who had disappeared after escaping from Impel Down.

First, because Golden Lion was strong enough. Second, because Golden Lion wasn't very bright.

With proper planning, he had a good chance of obtaining Golden Lion's genetic sample to create powerful clones and strengthen his forces.

Ark was stunned.

He was just an eleven-year-old boy. The riot in town was the biggest crisis he could imagine.

So what kind of danger would Doctor Reddy face in the future?

Reddy thought for a moment, then smiled slightly. He took off his wide-brimmed hat and placed it on Ark's head. "I prefer white. This black hat represents my change and carries my dream. Will you keep it for me?"

"Really?"

Ark carefully held the black wide-brimmed hat with both hands, his grin stretching from ear to ear in delight.

"Let's make a promise."

Reddy smiled. "Before I take this hat back, you must take care of Mia and the others."

When Ark heard the first half, he felt uneasy, worried he couldn't fulfill Reddy's promise. But after hearing the second half, he immediately swore solemnly, "I'll take care of them until you come back for us. I swear."

Reddy chuckled. "The bounties on these two pirates add up to 2.5 million berries. I'll also ask the navy to give you a little help. That should be enough for you to live for two or three years. I think that's when we'll meet again."

"I don't trust the navy."

Ark lowered his head gloomily.

"Don't doubt the navy's justice, kid."

Major Yakovich walked over. His burly figure made Ark step back warily, shielding Mia behind him.

Perhaps because Reddy was his support, Ark retorted defiantly, "Why are you always so late when those evil pirates are causing trouble?"

Yakovich fell silent.

The navy's duty was to capture pirates.

But pirates didn't notify the navy before committing crimes. It took time to receive reports and mobilize.

Ark was a victim and a child. Arguing with him was pointless.

"These are the bodies of Red Wolf Arthur and Dagger Joseph."

Reddy had no interest in debating this reality with the navy. Looking at Yakovich, whose face was still smudged with soot, he smiled. "Could you do me a favor and look after these orphans when you have time?"
