Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The Sea Emperors’ Reactions
"Yes, sir!"
Vice Admiral Onigumo saluted crisply, then turned and quickly left to carry out his orders.
Aside from the World Government and Marine Headquarters, numerous powerful pirates—especially those familiar with the Red Hair Pirates—were also buzzing about the recent incident.
On a remote and desolate island, a burly middle-aged man with a rugged appearance, missing a few teeth, a hairy body, and dark skin sat under a tree, laughing heartily as he read a newspaper. He had wild black hair tied in a bandana, two necklaces around his neck, bracelets on both wrists, and jewel-encrusted rings on all ten fingers. Most striking of all, he wore three flintlock pistols at his waist.
"Zehahaha! This guy's got something interesting going on! Looks like he's eaten a powerful Devil Fruit... He better hope we never meet, Zehahaha!"
This was none other than Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard.
"Boss Teach! A merchant ship has been spotted up ahead, escorted by a Marine warship. Should we hit them?" a pirate ran up to him, speaking with urgency and respect.
Hearing this, Blackbeard narrowed his eyes and chuckled coldly.
"Snatch the merchant ship. And as for the warship—sink it! Zehahaha!"

On a cluster of islands made of towering cakes and cream, a massive, round woman with thick lipstick, lavender eyeshadow, and a pirate hat devoured cake after cake with terrifying hunger. She wore a wide pink dress and looked every bit the monster she was reputed to be.
She was Charlotte Linlin, better known as Big Mom, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea.
"Momma! A terrifying guy has popped up in the East Blue! He actually defeated the entire Red Hair Pirates led by Shanks!" said Charlotte Perospero, her lanky, long-nosed son, dressed in a candy-themed outfit and holding a candy-cane cane. He was one of the Big Mom Pirates' top ministers—the Candy Minister.
"Mama mama mama! When did Shanks get so weak? What a disgrace to the New World! If that brat dares set foot here, I'll teach him a lesson myself!
And these cakes are too few! Bring me more cakes! Hurry!"
Charlotte Linlin grew more agitated with every word, her voice rising like a storm.
"Yes, Mom! I'll go get more cake right now!"
Terrified at her growing fury, Perospero turned tail and fled at a sprint.
—
On an island shaped like a demonic horned skull, deep inside a massive cave, sat a towering figure with long black hair, dragon-like horns, a massive frame, and a scarred X on his exposed abdomen. His muscular torso was bare, his lower half clad in loose green pants tied with a sacred rope. Purple fur hung from his shoulders, and he drank beer from a giant bowl.
He was the Beast King, Kaido—another Sea Emperor.
"Hmph. So he beat Shanks, huh? Looks like we've got another fearless idiot stepping into the New World.
But no matter. Once my army of artificial Devil Fruit users is complete, this world will fall under my rule!"
With that, Kaido downed his drink in one massive gulp, then hurled the bowl to the ground, letting out a deafening dragon's roar.
The very sound of his voice sent shivers down the spines of everyone on the island.

Meanwhile, aboard a colossal pirate ship with a whale figurehead…
A massive man with a crescent-shaped white mustache and white pirate cap sat on deck, exuding a powerful aura even while visibly ailing. His body was covered in IV tubes, and an oxygen tube fed into his nose. Behind him stood over a dozen nurses in pink uniforms—not crewmates, but his personal medical staff.
This was none other than Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard, one of the Four Emperors.
He was the man considered closest to becoming the Pirate King—the one universally acknowledged as the Strongest Man in the World after Roger's death.
He possessed the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type fruit said by Fleet Admiral Sengoku to have the power to destroy the world.
Even his weapon was famous—Murakumogiri, one of the twelve Supreme Grade Blades.
But Newgate was now in his twilight years, his body worn down by countless battles. Age and illness had taken their toll.
Still, the Whitebeard Pirates remained the most terrifying crew in the New World—and the most feared by the World Government.
"Old man," said a man with dark skin and hair like pineapple leaves, wearing a loose gray-and-white shirt open at the chest to reveal a cross-shaped tattoo, "There's an interesting kid out there. Want me to go check him out?"
This was Marco the Phoenix, commander of the First Division of the Whitebeard Pirates. His rare Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit gave him regenerative powers that rivaled even Logia types, earning him the title of second strongest in the crew.
"No rush," Whitebeard said gravely. "If that brat's headed for the treasures of the New World, we'll cross paths eventually.
But what I don't get is... what's going on with Shanks?
How did he end up losing an arm in the East Blue... and now, lose a fight to a no-name rookie?"
Marco chuckled. "He may be unknown… but I'm guessing you're quite familiar with his crewmate, old man."
