Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Arlong Pirates? What the Hell is That?
"You two are from out of town, right?"
The sharp-mouthed fish-man casually placed one hand on Rikuya Kazama's shoulder and the other on Douglas Bullet's as he spoke leisurely.
"What's the problem?" Rikuya turned around with a confused look.
"Haha, do you even know whose turf this is?" the fish-man burst out laughing.
"Whose turf?"
"Ever heard of the Arlong Pirates? This is the territory of the Arlong Pirates!" the fish-man said proudly.
"Ohh, the Arlong Pirates, huh? No wonder that flag outside the town looked so familiar...
So this is the crew led by that piece of trash!"
Rikuya suddenly understood.
Arlong, the captain, was a fish-man and a former officer of the Sun Pirates.
After leaving them, he formed his own pirate crew.
Upon returning from the Grand Line, he started a campaign to dominate East Blue.
He attacked countless villages and eventually took over more than 20 of them—including Cocoyasi Village, the hometown of Nami—where he founded his so-called "Arlong Empire."
Douglas Bullet, on the other hand, had been imprisoned for twenty years and knew nothing of recent developments in the world.
"Are the Arlong Pirates strong?" he asked.
"They're said to be the strongest in East Blue. But their captain's bounty is only 20 million Beli. What do you think?"
Hearing that, Bullet nearly cursed out loud.
Twenty million? One of his fingers would cost more than that.
If that's the highest bounty around here, East Blue pirates were seriously pathetic.
"Hey, punk, what did you just say? You called our captain trash? Sounds like you've got a death wish!"
The sharp-mouthed fish-man's expression turned nasty.
And just then, all the other fish-men in the bar stood up, glaring menacingly.
"Douglas Bullet, I've never actually seen you in action.
They say you're a monster.
Mind showing off a little?"
Rikuya suggested suddenly.
While Rikuya could've easily taken care of the lackeys himself, doing so would've cost him one possession activation, which required 1,000 reputation points.
It wasn't worth wasting one for a few low-level thugs.
Even though he'd earned over 400,000 reputation points from Impel Down, it still wasn't enough to exchange for a Hashirama Senju character card.
So he wasn't going to waste his resources.
Besides, he was genuinely curious to see what Bullet—someone said to rival Rayleigh—was capable of.
Bullet sneered coldly.
"You're insulting me."
Without waiting for a reply, he charged forward, instantly appearing in front of the sharp-mouthed fish-man.
In the blink of an eye, Bullet's arms turned jet-black, hardened with Armament Haki.
Then, before the fish-man could react, Bullet's rock-hard fist smashed into his face.
"BOOM!"
With a muffled crash, the fish-man was sent flying out of the bar.
"Kill them!" the other fish-men roared.
But before they could act, Bullet had already charged into the crowd.
Moments later, the entire bar was littered with lifeless fish-man bodies—none of them survived.
The bartender, who had just come out carrying two glasses of rum, froze in terror.
Bullet casually walked back, took the rum from the stunned bartender, and handed one glass to Rikuya.
"Damn, isn't that overkill? Using Armament Haki on small fries?"
Rikuya said with a grin, accepting the drink.
Armament Haki was one of the three types of Haki.
It enhanced both offense and defense and allowed attacks to land on Logia-type Devil Fruit users.
The moment Bullet's skin turned black, Rikuya knew he was using it.
"Hmm... so you know about Armament Haki too.
You wanted a demonstration—well, there it is. Just a little show of what monsters from our era were capable of," Bullet said casually, taking a big swig of rum.
"Hmph, I know a lot more than you think.
For example, I'm pretty sure that Arlong guy and his gang of sea scum will show up here real soon to stir up trouble,"
Rikuya said as he took a sip of the rum—and immediately choked on it.
"Damn, this stuff is strong!"
"Haha! You're still a rookie.
Rum is one of the strongest liquors in the world.
I could drink mugs of it back when I was 15!"
Bullet laughed heartily.
"Pfft, this stuff sucks,"
Rikuya muttered, taking a couple more sips but still finding it worse than the Maotai liquor back in the real world.
He put the glass back on the table.
At that moment, the bar owner finally regained his senses and stammered:
"S-Sirs... you'd better leave now!
Once the officers from the Arlong Pirates arrive, you won't be able to get away!"
