One Piece: Signing In as a Pirate Begins with Roger's Execution

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Fearsome Power of a Devil Fruit

Terrifying beyond measure!

Such terror!

This young man may be destined for greatness!

On the rooftop of the church, beneath the skylight.

Karl stood motionless, unable to remain calm.

Originally, his intent had been to discuss the state of the West Blue with Capone Bege.

But never in his wildest dreams did he expect to witness such an astonishing display.

Even with his extensive experiences and the tempered resolve honed under the tutelage of Garp and others, Karl couldn't help but feel astonished.

Capone Bege had developed the powers of the Door-Door Fruit to an extraordinary level—beyond even Karl's expectations.

Although much of what Bege utilized stemmed from techniques Karl had previously taught him, Bege had not only mastered them but taken them to new heights.

Most importantly, Capone Bege's Devil Fruit powers had awakened!

This awakening allowed him to open doors anytime, anywhere—without even needing to physically touch a surface.

For Karl, witnessing such potential in Capone Bege was a revelation.

If Bege so desired, he could trap someone between two doors, ensuring they'd never get close to him.

As long as his opponent couldn't fly or teleport, Bege was practically invincible!

This ability was devastating against weaker foes, capable of instilling immense fear.

Against a Vice Admiral-level opponent or stronger, however, its effectiveness might wane.

Still, against an opponent unfamiliar with his power, Bege could gain a decisive edge.

"Who would have thought? Five years without seeing him, and Capone Bege has grown to this extent," Karl murmured.

"Truly deserving of being one of the future Supernovas—capable of withstanding two blows from Charlotte Linlin herself."

With a sigh, Karl descended directly from the rooftop.

The sudden appearance of a figure startled the church members, who immediately assumed defensive stances.

But Capone Bege merely glanced at Karl and bowed deeply.

"Welcome, Lord Karl."

"Uh... there's no need for such formalities," Karl replied, slightly embarrassed by Bege's reverence.

The surrounding church members, hearing Bege's words, began whispering among themselves, clearly unsure of Karl's identity.

"Silence, everyone!" Bege commanded. "Today's prayers are canceled. You are dismissed!"

"Praise harmony!"

"Praise harmony!"

At Bege's words, the congregation dispersed quickly.

Watching them leave, Karl couldn't help but be curious.

"You've truly done it—mastering the West Blue by yourself.

"Spreading faith is an effective method, but I can't help but feel it resembles the techniques of a mafia boss."

Karl gestured toward Jack, who was still falling through an endless loop of doors, visibly perplexed.

With a smirk, Capone Bege closed the two doors, causing Jack to crash onto the ground, dazed and questioning his life's choices.

"Rest assured, Lord Karl. My methods are both safe and efficient.

"The only downside is that, against particularly stubborn individuals, I sometimes need to employ... harsher measures.

"Speaking of which, when did you arrive? My Observation Haki isn't refined enough to detect you," Bege admitted, scratching his head with a sheepish smile.

Five years ago, Karl had provided him with training methods for Haki, but Bege had clearly prioritized mastering his Devil Fruit abilities.

As a result, while his fruit had awakened, his Haki remained underdeveloped.

"I've been observing ever since you started... educating that man," Karl said with a wry smile. "Honestly, I'm curious—how exactly do you convert people through your sermons? Mind showing me live?"

"No problem, Lord Karl. But I hope you won't find my methods... distasteful afterward."

"Distasteful? What do you mean by that?"

Bege chuckled awkwardly before stepping toward the disoriented Jack.

"Jack, are you willing to join the faith?"

"Yes! I'm willing! Please stop torturing me!"

Jack fell to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably, and began kowtowing.

The sensation of falling endlessly had left him traumatized beyond words.

For the past hour, he felt like he had been in a perpetual freefall—both in this life and the next.

His mind was filled with visions of endless plummeting and the image of Bege's cigar-clenching face.

"Good. In that case, come sit here," Bege instructed.

Like a submissive puppy, Jack obeyed, kneeling in front of Bege with a mixture of fear and confusion in his eyes.

Bege calmly opened a small door on Jack's head and pulled out a book of political ideologies, which he began reciting.

"Prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom..."

The twenty-four guiding principles, along with other philosophical doctrines, rolled off Bege's tongue with a solemn, authoritative tone.

Even Karl, upon hearing the recital, couldn't help but feel a sense of gravity.

Jack, who started with bewilderment, gradually transitioned to shock, pain, and eventually fervent devotion.

In less than an hour, Jack transformed into a pious follower.

The process left Karl thoroughly stunned.

"What kind of sorcery is this?"

Karl stared at Jack, now capable of reciting the twenty-four principles and fully committed to the faith.

This operation was more audacious than anything Karl could have imagined.

"Lord Karl, it's one of my Devil Fruit abilities.

"I discovered that by opening a door in someone's mind, I can implant certain ideas I wish to convey.

"The influence is superficial at first, but with prolonged exposure to sermons and prayers, they can become genuine believers.

"However, this ability has its limitations: it only works on individuals weaker than me and requires them to be completely defenseless mentally.

"I can only affect one person at a time, and it has no effect on simpletons, lunatics, or fools.

"As for whether it works on someone with Conqueror's Haki, I'm not sure—I've yet to face such an opponent."

Bege laid out the limitations of his ability in full, wanting to avoid any misunderstandings with Karl.

"I see... So your fruit's awakening ties into this ability?" Karl asked.

"It does. To better fulfill the tasks you've assigned me, I've dedicated myself to refining my fruit powers, striving for perfection.

"But in doing so, I've neglected my Haki training. My Observation and Armament Haki haven't improved at all in the past five years."

Bege sighed, gesturing for Jack to leave.

Jack bowed deeply in gratitude before limping away.

As he watched Jack leave, Karl turned back to Bege.

"After implanting these ideas, does it affect their personality or alter their memories?"
