One Piece: Please Call Me Godfather!

Chapter 30: 30

Reinhardt did not respond to Nami's request for a salary advance.

He always believed that kindness was a very good habit, but when a person wanted to show their kindness, they must ensure that the person receiving help could feel the weight of this kindness.

If kindness becomes cheap, it loses its meaning.

In response to Reinhardt's rejection, Nami made a face, a fifteen-year-old girl immediately taking off the burden from her shoulders, becoming more agile.

On the way back, Reinhardt quickly experienced Nami's powerful maritime skills.

On the journey, the ocean currents shifted, the weather changed—everything was under her control. She could predict natural phenomena in advance, and she could easily manipulate the ocean currents.

No wonder there had always been rumors in her past life saying that Nami was the incarnation of the Sea King.

Reinhardt thought to himself that, purely in terms of skill, Nami's maritime techniques were extraordinarily powerful, and it was not surprising that Golden Lion was moved by her.

With such a teacher, he was sure his subordinates would turn out to be a great group of Kōkaishi.

Reinhardt thought this way.

Reinhardt was stunned by Nami's maritime skills, but how could Nami not be stunned by Reinhardt as well?

"This person, is he really just an ordinary merchant?"

Nami couldn't help but exclaim in her heart.

It wasn't that she was overly shocked; it was just that the behavior of the sailors on the ship was far from ordinary.

"Godfather, please sit." At this moment, the highest-ranking officer, the senior lieutenant, enthusiastically offered a reclining chair.

Behind him, the junior lieutenant raised a table, which was set with books, drinks, and sweet snacks. "Godfather, everything is prepared according to your preferences."

The second lieutenant opened a large sunshade umbrella and neatly stored it away, his face full of flattery.

What in the world was going on?

Nami felt that this was not right. Why were the rulers of the sea, the most powerful navy, being so deferential to a merchant?

And why were they referring to Reinhardt—her boss—as "Godfather"?

Could it be that Reinhardt is still a religious figure? Were these sailors cleansed by rituals, with Reinhardt responsible for ensuring their safety?

This doesn't make sense. Not one of these officers is older than Reinhardt.

Nami felt very strange.

She was an open-minded girl, and if something puzzled her, she would ask. She quietly pulled a sailor aside, giving him a flirtatious glance. "Hey, can you answer me one question?"

Having been in the military for many years, where would a sailor have such an experience with a situation like this?

The youthful, feminine aura immediately made his face flush. "W-What question?"

Nami smiled inwardly, pleased—men were easy to deal with. "Why do all the officers seem so flattering toward my boss? And why do they call him 'Godfather'?"

The sailor's face instantly became serious, as if he were giving an official report. "Because Godfather Reinhardt is someone worthy of our respect."

Of course, he was worthy of respect. His salary had increased by fifty percent—how could he not be respected?

"Huh?"

What kind of answer was that?

Nami wanted to ask another question, but the sailor decisively turned and walked away.

The sailor's firm attitude did not diminish Nami's curiosity. On the contrary, it made her even more curious about Reinhardt.

What exactly is the identity of my boss?

Just as she was about to find someone else to ask, a calm, gentle voice spoke from behind her. "Eavesdropping on others is not something a good child should do."

Nami was startled and quickly turned around. There, Reinhardt was still sitting under the sunshade, reading a book. He hadn't even shifted his head to look at her. She stuck out her tongue and turned to run into the cabin.

The warship continued forward, and Loguetown was approaching quickly.

"Loguetown..."

Nami leaned over the ship's railing, gazing at the bustling town below. She couldn't help but sigh. "The last time I came here was because—"

She suddenly stopped, realizing that the next words were not something she should say on a military vessel.

The last time she came was to sell stolen goods. Would she dare tell the Navy about something like that?

The warship did not dock at Loguetown's port; the Navy base had its own dedicated dock. On the other side of the island, the warship circled around Loguetown and continued forward.

"Godfather! It looks like there's a pirate ship!"

Suddenly, a sailor who was looking out in the distance shouted.

"Pirates?"

Nami jumped in surprise, instinctively wanting to run, but then she quickly remembered that she was on a Navy ship and had no need to fear pirates.

With that in mind, she instead stuck her head out and looked ahead. Sure enough, on the other side of the coastline, a pirate ship was docked there.

This wasn't anything unusual. Nami knew that Loguetown was the last island of the East Blue that connected to the Grand Line. Pirates often made risky landings here to resupply before heading into the Grand Line.

Otherwise, the Navy wouldn't have stationed heavy troops here time and again.

"Godfather, do you want us to engage?"

The lieutenant asked Reinhardt for his opinion.

Reinhardt smiled, "No need, someone is already handling it."

"That's a relief."

The lieutenant breathed a sigh of relief. Since the Godfather said so, it must be true.

Huh?

The lieutenant was reassured, but Nami was puzzled.

What was going on?

Did the Navy trust her boss this much?

"Boom! Boom!"

From far away on the pirate ship, loud explosions echoed continuously. By the time the warship drew closer, Nami could clearly see a man with green hair on the pirate ship, recklessly causing destruction. There was no pirate who could stop him with even one strike—he easily defeated and knocked away everyone with a single move.

Truly impressive.

Nami couldn't help but praise, even Arlong wouldn't be a match for this green-haired man, right? She even saw a pirate swing a sword at the green-haired man, only for the sword to be knocked away.

"How dare you invade Loguetown? Do you know whose territory this is?"

The green-haired man, wearing a pirate collar, began greeting the pirates with a series of powerful punches. Angrily, he said, "How dare you show off in the family's territory? You really have a death wish! Accept the punishment of Master Barto's Iron Fist!"

"Barto, seems like your training has gone quite smoothly."

Reinhardt had appeared by her side without her noticing, and Nami heard him speak.

So they know each other?

The green-haired man, who was Reinhardt's capable assistant, Bartolomeo, turned in surprise and joy. He threw his weapon aside, ran to the back of the ship, and waved vigorously toward Reinhardt.

"Godfather! You're finally back! I've finished learning Busoshoku Haki!"

He—was actually crying.

Nami looked at Bartolomeo, tears streaming down his face, and felt a bit disgusted.

Reinhardt used his mental power and directly pulled Bartolomeo over.

"Ah! Still as powerful as ever, Godfather!"

Bartolomeo wiped his tears with his sleeve. "I feel at ease now that you're back."

Nami stared at Reinhardt in amazement. So, he's a power user after all?

"Yes, Godfather," Bartolomeo wiped his tears away. "Why didn't you tell us you were coming back today? We had no idea. I'll immediately notify Uncle Jackson and the others to come and welcome you."

At this point, Nami didn't feel anything wrong. It was quite normal for family and friends to welcome you back after returning from the sea, right?

But when the warship docked, and a group of people came out of the Navy base, she was completely stunned.

"What... what is this?"

In front of her, a mass of people kept emerging and walking out, almost like a cloud of shadows.

The first elderly officer in front saw them coming out and took a few steps forward, bowing to Reinhardt. "Godfather, welcome back."

"Godfather, welcome back!"

Everyone behind him turned around and spoke in unison, their voices blending into a windstorm.

At that moment, Nami finally realized that the title "Godfather" wasn't just referring to religious meaning—it seemed to have another significance.
