Chapter 28: 28
"Does that mean, everything, is it all over now?"
The tangerine-haired girl sat dazed on the ground, her right hand covering her left arm, trying to hide the tattoo there. Her eyes were vacant, and tears silently flowed down her delicate cheeks from the corners of her eyes.
"Mm, it's over, everything is over."
The beautiful woman with blue hair gently embraced the girl, her face pressed against the girl's hair, softly speaking, "Nami, you no longer have to risk your life to earn money."
"Nojiko—"
Nami looked up, sobbing, "You know?"
"Everyone knew long ago!"
A powerful male voice rang out. Nami turned her head, and Genzo stood in front of her, his eyes filled with tears, trying to force a big smile. "Nami, you've worked hard."
"...."
Nami was stunned as more and more villagers gathered around, all of them wearing warm smiles.
"Nami, you don't have to act so strong anymore, everyone was really worried!"
"But everyone wants to thank you, Nami. Without your strong words, we probably would have given up long ago."
"It's all thanks to you, Nami!"
They said this.
The girl bit her lip, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably. "Everyone, everyone—"
"Waaaaa!!!"
The once strong girl finally broke down and cried aloud.
The villagers, not far away, had already taken Mouse and his subordinates into custody. Francklin walked over to Reinhardt's side and sighed.
"I've heard about that girl's story. She made a deal for the village and the fish people, and at such a young age, she risked her life on the sea to earn money. Truly, she's an extraordinary child."
Reinhardt smiled and replied, "Francklin, how many naval bases are near Cocoyashi Village?"
Francklin was somewhat confused about what Reinhardt meant, but he still replied sincerely, "This area is under the jurisdiction of Colonel Mouse, and there are four other naval bases a bit further out in the surrounding waters."
"Oh, I see,"
Reinhardt nodded. "Then, for Arlong's pirate crew to be so aggressive, it's not just because of a rat, right?"
"...."
Francklin paused for a moment, then nodded, saying, "Exactly. The other naval bases are absolutely involved as well!"
With just Colonel Mouse, it was impossible to keep all the news of Arlong's pirate crew suppressed! There were more than twenty villages in the area!
There must be other bases scheming in the shadows!
Thinking of this, Francklin immediately relaxed. After all, he wasn't the lowest-ranking officer.
"Good,"
Reinhardt smiled, "Isn't this just another great accomplishment?"
"Exactly."
Francklin's face turned red, and he was one step closer to becoming a general.
"Also,"
Reinhardt's voice lowered, taking on a strange tone, "I think all of us in the Loguetown Navy are pretty capable, especially the officers. We should start working on some benefits for them."
"When these base commanders are taken down, do you think our Colonel can temporarily assume the role of base chief?"
Francklin's spine chilled.
This teacher Reinhardt truly had a gutsy nature.
Was he trying to hollow out the entire East Blue Navy system?
But, it had to be said, it was quite feasible.
The officers from these bases, with their low-level clean records, were definitely bound for military tribunal.
If that happens, their positions will be vacant.
The Loguetown Navy officers all hold their own ranks, and even junior officers are qualified to become base commanders of their respective units, let alone those with the rank of lieutenant.
It would be entirely possible to appoint them as managers for those bases.
And, since base commanders can't be reassigned from other naval areas, most are transferred within the East Blue division.
Therefore, as long as my subordinates make a contribution, the management positions can be shifted to them.
Seeing Francklin deep in thought, Reinhardt knew he had been moved.
He then patted his shoulder and said, "I'll leave this to you, Francklin. I know you won't disappoint me."
Francklin nodded, already beginning to make plans while waiting for the official report.
As he was thinking, Reinhardt began to address official matters, walking over to where he was still conversing with the villagers, particularly with Nami.
"Miss Nami, I hope you're doing well."
Reinhardt, unusually, interrupted their conversation without his usual formality.
"Who are you?"
With tear-filled eyes, Nami turned to look at Reinhardt. However, she didn't appear particularly moved by his exceptional appearance. In this world, people were very practical; beauty only had an impact if one reached the level of the Empress Shirahoshi—anything less didn't make much of a difference.
"Let me introduce you, Nami,"
Genzo quickly spoke up, "This is Mr. Reinhardt, who came here with Colonel Francklin. He is a future businessman from Loguetown."
That's how Reinhardt had introduced himself earlier.
Nami wiped away her tears, stood up, and, being a fifteen-year-old girl, her height just reaching Reinhardt's chest, said, "So you're Mr. Reinhardt, thank you so much—"
"No,"
Reinhardt waved his hand, "The fishmen were dealt with by the Navy, it had nothing to do with me. I came specifically to see you."
"See me?"
This time, Nami was truly surprised, and then, in the next moment, her face couldn't help but turn red.
Behind her, Nojiko chuckled softly, "Mr. Reinhardt, Nami is indeed a very lovely girl, but she's only fifteen this year, still just a child. How about you choose me instead?"
It seemed like she was misunderstood.
However, Reinhardt remained calm and smiled, "If I could befriend Miss Nojiko, that would surely be something others would envy. But you've misunderstood me. I simply hope Miss Nami can work for me."
"Huh?"
Nami was stunned. "Work for you?"
"Work?" Nojiko and the others were also surprised.
Reinhardt spoke kindly, "Even I've heard of the famous little thief, Nami. I've heard that no one in the East Blue is more outstanding than you in Kōkaishi. By the way, I have some assets under my name and frequently need to transport goods by sea."
"Ah?"
When it came to business, Nami's eyes immediately lit up, and she seemed much brighter than when she had seen Reinhardt before. "You want me to be your Kōkaishi?"
If the treatment was good, she wouldn't mind it.
After all, she no longer needed to work for Arlong. What else she could do, she hadn't really figured out yet. Going out to draw world maps by sea would still be a bit too early. After all, she was still very young.
"No,"
Reinhardt shook his head. "I hope, Miss Nami, that you can help me train Kōkaishi."
If it was for piracy, a single Nami would be enough.
But for someone with Reinhardt's status, a single Nami wouldn't be enough.
However, if there were many Nami's, even if it weakened the output, it would still be enough.
Besides, Reinhardt also had the (Night King) learning growth boost. If Nami could teach, his Kōkaishi would definitely grow quickly under his hand.
"Isn't that a teacher?" Genzo's eyes lit up. This wasn't bad, at least better than the little thief.
Nami bit her lip. "Teaching? I don't have any experience—"
Reinhardt straightened his right index finger. "One million Beri per month."
"But I think I could give it a try!"
Isn't this really simple?
