Chapter 37: Chapter 37
Nami clenched her teeth and held on as she continued her battle with Mad Treasure. However, against an opponent now going all out, her power still seemed a bit too immature.
After wrapping chains around his fists and smashing through an ice pillar Nami had summoned, Mad Treasure was already in close range.
"Die, Nami!"
Mad Treasure bared his teeth in a savage grin and threw a heavy punch aimed right at Nami's head.
Even the air groaned beneath the pressure of the blow.
If it landed, Nami would definitely suffer severe injuries.
Damn it!
A cold jolt went through Nami's heart as she instinctively cried out Genrou's name.
Bang!
Suddenly, Mad Treasure felt a heavy blow strike his abdomen, sending his body flying uncontrollably.
"Cough… Who just ambushed me?!"
Clutching his stomach with a twisted expression, Mad Treasure glared at Nami—and as expected, saw a man standing beside her.
It was the very person he'd been wary of all along—the one using some sort of stealth ability.
"Genrou!"
Nami called out in joy. Unlike Mad Treasure, Genrou's reappearance gave her an unprecedented sense of relief.
"You've already done really well, Nami."
"Now then… shall we bring this fight to an end?"
Genrou stepped out of Stealth, patted Nami on the shoulder, and turned to face the still-cautious Mad Treasure.
"Indeed. Let's wrap this up."
Nami nodded.
"So… should I finish him off?" Genrou asked.
"No need. I still have one final move left. Vice-captain Genrou, could I trouble you to protect me for a bit? I'm not used to unleashing this technique yet."
"Got it. Go ahead and use it—no one will lay a hand on you while you're preparing."
Genrou instantly understood that Nami was about to unleash Fairy Glitter, and without hesitation, positioned himself in front of her, throwing out card after card imbued with magic.
"Heehee, that's really reassuring."
Nami gave a light laugh and suddenly raised her right arm, pointing it at Mad Treasure.
As the tattoo on her arm glowed, golden light began gathering around her.
"Don't get cocky just because you've got time to chatter mid-fight!"
Mad Treasure's eyes widened. He could instinctively feel that Nami's energy was off.
With a furious roar, he launched several chains toward Genrou.
At the same time, he secretly had a chain smash through the deck behind him, sending another one snaking upward from beneath in an attempt to ambush Nami.
However, what Mad Treasure didn't know was that every move he made was within the range of Genrou's Kenbunshoku Haki.
"Don't bother with these petty tricks in front of me. It's useless."
Genrou tapped a card glowing with ice magic, and over a dozen spears of ice shot out, smashing into both Mad Treasure and the chains on the deck.
Although Genrou blocked nearly every chain, Mad Treasure grinned when he saw that the one sneaking from below wasn't intercepted.
Laugh while you still can… Once I capture that woman, you'll all have to do what I say.
Mad Treasure roared with laughter inside, already imagining the moment he'd ensnared Nami.
But just as the chain burst through the deck at Nami's feet—Genrou grabbed it with a single hand.
"What?!"
Mad Treasure's eyes bulged.
No matter how hard he pulled, he couldn't get his Devil Fruit-created chain to budge from Genrou's grasp.
"I told you—tricks like that won't work on me."
"Instead of wasting your time, maybe you should wrap your chains around yourself instead."
"Nami's next attack… might hurt quite a bit."
Genrou grinned.
As soon as he finished speaking, Nami's eyes snapped open. The magic in her tattoo surged, and a towering pillar of golden light burst around her, hundreds of meters tall.
The dazzling light halted the nearby battles instantly. Luffy, Zoro, and even Psycho-P all turned to look toward the radiance erupting from Nami.
"Wh-What is that?!"
Mad Treasure gawked, staring at the golden light in the sky that was slowly condensing into a massive golden ring.
"Could it be… an undiscovered treasure?!"
"Nami! Give me that tattoo on your arm!"
Mad Treasure instinctively felt the light originated from Nami's tattoo. His obsession as a treasure hunter overwhelmed his fear—he was desperate to possess it.
"This isn't a treasure someone like you can control, Mad Treasure!"
Nami smirked, looking at him mockingly.
The light of Fairy Glitter gave her immense confidence. No longer did Mad Treasure feel like an insurmountable enemy.
"Gather, oh radiant rivers that guide the fairies."
"Shine bright, to purge the claws of evil."
"Fairy Glitter!"
As Nami's words fell, the golden ring in the sky descended and struck Mad Treasure dead-on.
The intense brilliance of the fairy light was so blinding that no one could keep their eyes open.
…
Meanwhile, in a nearby sea area not far from the battle between the Straw Hats and the Treasure Hunters—
A massive Navy battleship was speeding along the southeast route.
The large "Tsuru" character on the sail clearly identified the ship's owner—Vice Admiral Tsuru, Chief Strategist of the Marines.
At the bow, two women stood side by side, gazing toward the distant sea.
If Genrou were here, he would instantly recognize them.
They were none other than Tsuru and Gion—the women who had once pursued him for a long time.
"Gion, are you sure you don't need more rest?"
"I can handle the task of capturing Genrou."
Tsuru suddenly spoke.
"No worries, Tsuru-nee."
Gion smiled at her.
"I'm fully recovered now. Rest assured—I can contribute to the pursuit of Genrou."
Tsuru frowned slightly. Though Gion wore her usual gentle smile, as her older sister, Tsuru could see right through her.
Gion was clearly not back to her usual calm state.
Something was weighing heavily on her heart.
She had noticed it ever since the moment she picked up Gion.
"Gion, you… Hmm?!"
Tsuru had been about to continue persuading her, but her words were interrupted by a dazzling golden beam of light shooting into the sky in the distance.
"What incredible power… Why would such energy appear in the East Blue?"
"Tsuru-nee, what do you think?"
Gion frowned, turning to her.
"According to reports from Shells Town, Genrou has the ability to summon turrets that fire golden lasers."
"Though the laser scale in those reports is far smaller than the current light pillar, it's still worth investigating."
"Gion, prepare to depart—we're heading over now."
After issuing her command, Tsuru turned and began organizing the crew.
"Yes, Tsuru-nee."
Gion nodded firmly. To her, anything related to capturing Genrou was no small matter.
But… is that kind of power really his?
If so, why has he never used it before?
Gion turned her head just in time to see the light pillar in the sky collapse into a golden ring that came crashing down from above.
