One Piece: General Blue

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Luo and the Giant

On the shore of the No. 40 Mangrove District by the sea.

"Boom, boom, boom!"

The ground trembled with a deep rumble as a large group of armed thugs surrounded and pursued a giant.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry! Shoot with the harpoons! Where are the tranquilizer darts? Damn it! What are you all doing? It's just an underage giant, and yet I've already lost so many men without capturing him!"

"Throw the net! The iron chains! Use all the equipment we have!"

A burly man with a fierce look on his face followed closely behind the main group of hunters, cursing and directing them with fury.

On the coastal sand, a giant standing ten meters tall let out angry roars while wielding what could only loosely be called a weapon—a shipyard mast he had grabbed on a whim—and swung it around haphazardly like swatting flies.

Despite his lack of technique, he wielded the raw, natural strength of a giant.

Under his swings, the ordinary wooden mast cut through the air, creating powerful, whistling sounds.

Occasionally, an unfortunate thug who got too close would be struck by the seven or eight-meter-long piece of wood, sent flying like a baseball, their bones cracking audibly.

Before they even hit the ground, they would turn into a crushed mess, splattering crimson blood everywhere.

"You scoundrels! How dare you destroy the ship I just paid for! Unforgivable!"

Under the mess of tangled hair was a rugged face with rough features—this was Palmer.

Though he looked aged, Palmer was only 50 years old.

The average lifespan of the giant race could reach up to 300 years.

At 50, Palmer was equivalent to a 16- or 17-year-old human.

He was born in a small nation along the Grand Line, and the reason for setting out to sea was that his parents wanted him to enter the New World and return to Elbaf, the village of the giants.

Palmer's decision to become a pirate stemmed from the countless tales his parents told him during his youth about the legendary Giant Warrior Pirates.

The adventures of the two legendary giant captains stirred his heart, filling him with a thirst for his own epic journeys with a crew.

However, once Palmer set out alone after spending his parents' lifelong savings to buy a ship, he realized the sea was far harsher than he had ever imagined.

Storms, whirlpools, Sea Kings, and underwater reefs—

These natural calamities alone had reduced the ship he bought at great cost to a battered wreck after only a short time at sea.

And that didn't even account for the detestable human slavers and pirates.

Despite having no enmity with those people, the fact that he was a giant made them see him as a prize. Almost without exception, their first reaction was to capture him for profit.

After reaching Sabaody Archipelago, Palmer discovered that this place was far from paradise.

In fact, it was even worse.

The moment he set foot on the island, over a dozen slaver squads targeted him.

Even though his brute strength allowed him to repel hundreds of attackers,

the slavers seemed endless—defeating one wave only for another to appear.

They were relentless and annoying beyond measure.

While a giant's stamina was formidable, it couldn't withstand such continuous waves of attacks.

Moreover, the equipment of these slave-capturing squads was highly advanced and sturdy.

The leading assailants were also strong.

Actually, Palmer didn't have to be so passive in this situation.

Because he originally had dozens of human pirates following him on his ship.

But what angered Palmer the most was this:

Under the allure of the slave-capturing squad's wealth, those human pirates who once joined him out of admiration for his strength turned their backs on him without a shred of loyalty, choosing to betray him outright.

They even attempted to poison his food.

If Palmer hadn't been taught by his parents from a young age that people's hearts are complex at sea and that he should always be cautious and vigilant—even with those closest to him, who might betray him for profit—he would have already become a new addition to the auction house as a giant slave.

"Huff! Huff!"

Heavy breaths escaped from Palmer's mouth and nose as he felt his steps growing heavier.

His stomach also felt a bit empty.

Looking at the relentless slave-capturing squad behind him, then at the dark waters ahead, Palmer gritted his teeth, suddenly stopping his running. His massive body suddenly rushed in the opposite direction, swinging the large log in his hand in a fifteen-meter-wide semicircle.

"Bam! Bam! Bam!"

This unexpected turnaround and sweep with the log instantly sent a dozen pursuers flying, their organs ruptured from the impact, already dead in midair.

"Back up! Keep your distance! Use hooks! Throw hooks at him; he's going berserk!"

The captain of the slave-capturing squad quickly retreated, shouting commands.

"Die, you beast!"

Palmer hated him the most and wouldn't let him escape.

He raised the log like a spear, pulling back his long arm as his muscles bulged, and swung his right arm forcefully.

"Whoosh!"

A sharp whistling pierced the air as Palmer's immense strength propelled the log at incredible speed.

The log rubbed against the air, producing smoke and even sparks.

"No! Stop him!"

The slave-capturing squad captain's eyes reflected the fiery log flying toward him, his face filled with terror.

But before he could finish his scream, the log pierced his body, pinning him into the ground.

The seven- or eight-meter-long log sank entirely into the earth, taking the captain's body with it, disappearing before the eyes of the assailants.

"Captain!"

One of the assailants ran to check, only to find a deep hole filled with blood splatters on the walls.

They didn't need to guess the captain's fate.

"Damn it! He killed the captain! With the captain dead, Mr. Berkeley will kill us. We have to capture him to avoid punishment!"

After a brief silence, the assailants' eyes turned red, and they charged with even more ferocity.

But Palmer had already turned and dove into the dark waters ahead, swimming swiftly through the dense roots of the red trees, leaving his pursuers helpless at the vast sea.

"Spread out! He'll have to come up for air!"

The assailants didn't give up, immediately spreading across the surrounding land, watching the sea closely.

Under the complex roots of the red tree, Palmer surfaced several hundred meters away, his anger still evident.

"The Auction House, huh? I'll remember this grudge!"

"My strength isn't enough. I need to go to Elbaf in the New World and learn legendary techniques like 'Conqueror's Will,' 'Sea Dominion,' and 'Elbaf's Spear.' When that time comes, I'll destroy that damned place with one blow!"

Palmer thought angrily, then suddenly raised his eyebrows, noticing a boat hidden among the thick roots not far ahead.

"Huh? There's a boat here? Is someone hiding in there?"

His eyes lit up, and he swam toward the boat with a grin.

"This is my lucky day! Just what I need to coat and head to the New World!"
