Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Standby
In the distance, Nitt Orl swooped down like a shadow, darting past a pirate ship with lightning speed.
Before the pirates could react, deep gashes appeared on their bodies, blood spraying out as they let out painful cries.
The other pirates, shocked, quickly rushed to defend themselves.
"What's happening?!"
"What's going on?!"
Suddenly, several walnut-sized black spheres fell onto the deck, rolling in all directions.
The pirates were confused. "What are these?!"
Before they could react, the black balls exploded with a loud bang, releasing intense flames and countless tiny steel balls.
Chaos erupted on the deck as pirates screamed in pain and flames spread across the sails.
Only then did the pirates realize what had happened. They rushed to put out the fire, shouting loudly.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
"They're in the sky, stay alert!!"
Some pirates drew guns and fired into the air, but Orl easily dodged their shots.
These black balls were the navy's new weapons. Over the years, Smoker had grown close to the science division, collaborating on several ideas. The scientists, in return, tested new weapons on him.
These bombs were a product of Smoker's creativity. Upon detonation, they released shockwaves, flames, and thousands of tiny steel pellets.
Smoker had equipped Orl with these bombs. After all, who could resist the power of strategic bombing?
Orl circled in the sky, his eyes glowing with excitement.
"Smoker's amazing! He even managed to get these incredible bombs!"
"With these, I'm really a main force now!!"
"Oh, and this gun..."
He pulled out a large machine gun from behind.
"I think it's called a light machine gun... Time to use it!!"
Orl dove again, firing rapidly as he unleashed a barrage of gunfire on the pirate ship.
"At this rate... holding them off for an hour should be easy!"
Not far away, on the Fang Pirates' flagship, Captain Bender scowled as he watched Orl, with Vice Captain Mocha standing beside him.
"Captain, the lookouts have confirmed it's just him! Let me go and take care of him!"
Bender showed no concern for the pirates below.
"Don't rush. Dealing with a little bird out of our range requires patience..."
"With such intense attacks and such high-speed movement, even if he's a bird, he'll get tired eventually. We'll deal with him when that happens..."
He looked at the wounded pirates on the ship, a smirk forming at the corner of his mouth.
"Bringing these fools along is exactly why we're prepared for this."
...
Meanwhile, on the navy ship, Smoker stood at the railing, smoking a cigar, his brow furrowed as he stared out at the sea.
Hina walked up beside him.
"Smoker, I've just spoken to Zephyr. He's coming to join us as soon as possible!"
Coincidentally, Zephyr was out at sea with the next class of elite cadets and was nearby. After hearing about the situation, he had rushed over.
"Good... keep reporting our position to Zephyr."
Smoker didn't look any more relaxed.
Right now, the problem wasn't a lack of strength—Hina could single-handedly take down the Fang Pirates.
The real issue was being out of reach. Even if Zephyr came, it might not make a difference.
"Orl, you have to hang in there..."
"Smoker, sir, Smoker, sir..."
A soldier ran up urgently.
"Report! Orl has engaged the enemy and successfully slowed them down."
"At this rate, we can catch up before the pirates land!"
"Good job!"
Smoker slapped the railing, finally showing a smile. Hina let out a sigh of relief.
"Full speed ahead, don't waste the opportunity Orl created!!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Report!"
Just then, another navy soldier rushed up, holding a piece of paper, his face pale.
"Smoker, sir, this is an encrypted message from Zephyr..."
"Encrypted message?!" Smoker's expression changed instantly.
Here's the revised version of the passage, with improvements to grammar, clarity, and flow:
Navy communications are divided into different levels of security. Ordinary messages don't require encryption, but any encrypted message is always of great importance, often related to life-and-death matters for a nation.
On Flying Swallow Island, the encrypted message that Kira had sent through Law ended up in the hands of Virgo.
"Give it to me!"
Smoker snatched the order, his expression tense.
What could be so important?
Was it a monster in the New World causing chaos?
Had a nation fallen into turmoil?
Or was it a world-ending natural disaster?
But as he read the contents of the paper, his expression changed drastically. First, anxiety, then shock, and finally anger.
"Bastard, what kind of joke is this?!"
"Orl is risking his life holding off the Fang Pirates!"
"On Pumiso Island, tens of thousands of people are in imminent danger!"
"And now, for this? We're supposed to stand by for three hours?!"
Hina, who had just read the encrypted order as well, looked stunned, her face filled with disbelief and fear.
"But... it's... a god..."
Several miles away, aboard an extravagant and massive ship, an old man in a tight white suit and a transparent helmet was furiously kicking a slave.
The slave lay on the floor, beaten and ragged, his body battered and bloody. He didn't dare make a sound, even as his wounds worsened.
"You useless slave!"
"You're disturbing me from enjoying the view!"
After kicking the slave for a while, the old man was still unsatisfied. He pulled out a golden handgun and fired several shots.
"Ugh..."
The slave's body convulsed violently as he let out his last breath. His eyes glazed over, but there was a hint of relief in them.
The old man put the gun away and shouted to one side.
"Throw this useless thing overboard! Bring me a stronger slave!"
"Yes, Bancroft-sama!"
From the shadows, a man in black with sunglasses stepped forward.
He tossed the slave's lifeless body into the sea like trash and brought over a new one.
The new slave was muscular, and no matter how much Bancroft moved, the man didn't dare make a sound or move an inch.
Bancroft nodded, pleased with the slave's obedience.
"Ger, tell me—who am I?"
"You are the descendant of the twenty kings who founded the World Government, from the great Izanbalon family. You are Izanbalon Bancroft-sama!"
The old man was none other than a Celestial Dragon, the highest noble in the world.
Ger was his CP agent, serving him without question.
Bancroft smiled at Ger's answer.
"Well said, Ger, very well said!"
"The lowly ones below only need to serve gods like me. They don't need to think for themselves... just like this one!"
With that, he kicked the slave in the back of the head. The sharp heel cut into his skull, blood pouring out instantly.
The slave, however, didn't move or even make a sound, biting down on his lip in agony.
Ger, bowing slightly, replied, "As you say!"
"Everything ahead is cleared, right?!"
Bancroft hated seeing other ships in his line of sight. Earlier, he had sunk a small fishing boat just to clear the area.
The previous slave had been killed after being struck by a cannonball's impact, and that was why he was punished.
"Yes, Bancroft-sama."
"We've thoroughly cleared this sea area. Whether it's pirate ships or fishing boats, they've all been sunk, and nothing will disturb your peace of mind."
"In the distance, there are two navy ships. We've ordered them to stay put."
"Is this arrangement acceptable?"
Suddenly, Bancroft drew his sword and slashed it across Ger's face. The blade cut deep, leaving a large wound across his cheek, injuring his left eye as well.
"Master!"
Ger quickly knelt, accustomed to enduring such treatment, with no trace of anger or resentment.
Bancroft sheathed his sword.
"If you think I should be satisfied, why ask me?"
"If you think I should be dissatisfied, who gave you the nerve to disrespect a god?!"
Ger immediately bowed lower. "You are right, it was my mistake!"
"The area ahead is cleared. I swear with my life, there won't be any mistakes!"
"Hmph, this is the last time."
"Yes, thank you for your grace!"
