Chapter 72: Conqueror's
Black and red lightning flashed in and out of the bursting wind, and the powerful Conqueror's Haki nearly demolished the dark and dank steel prison. The large, rotund man with the blond whip was sweating all over, enduring the Haki from his formidable boss. His massive, meatball-like body clung to Kaido's arm, and the flesh on his face quivered:
"You took them back with great difficulty. It would be too wasteful to go down with this stick!"
"Boss Kaido, calm down!"
Holding the slippery and bloody ground with one hand, Darren gasped for breath. With difficulty, he raised the corners of his eyes to glance at the big fat man who was attempting to placate Kaido. Aside from the whip, the man's head was bald, sporting two golden beards on his mouth, and he wore a pair of sunglasses. Combined with his fleshy body and exaggerated expression, he looked quite comical. His left hand was a mechanically modified prosthetic limb, and his right arm bore a dark tattoo with the word "QUEEN" emblazoned on it, along with the Beasts Pirates logo, exuding a "rap" vibe.
This was Queen the Plague, one of the lead figures in the Beasts Pirates. Like Vinsmoke Judge, he was once part of the illegal research group MADS, led by Vegapunk. Besides his formidable strength, he was a mad scientist, adept at creating dangerous mechanical weapons and terrifying germs. Hearing Queen's anxious plea, Kaido glanced at Darren and Bullet, who were coughing up blood and on the brink of death. He gritted his teeth and growled angrily:
"Damn brat!"
Panting heavily, Kaido retracted his Conqueror's Haki and slammed his mace hard onto the ground, creating a deep hole. With Kaido's Conqueror's Haki restrained, Darren and Bullet's bodies immediately relaxed, slumping against the wall like limp mud. However, Darren noticed something surprising. After withstanding the impact of Kaido's Conqueror's Haki repeatedly, his perception of his own Conqueror's Haki seemed to become clearer. At the same time, in his "perception" talent, an additional item appeared in his personal "attribute panel":
Status: Extremely weak
Physique: 70.112 (+0.777)
Strength: 68.339 (+1.891)
Velocity: 67.991 (+1.310)
Fruit: 77.197 (+0.915)
Armament Haki: 30.119 (+1.851)
Conqueror's Haki: 50.017 (+0.630)
The improvements in physique, strength, speed, fruit, and Armament Haki were all gains from his battle with Douglas Bullet. However, he was seriously injured and physically exhausted, leaving him in an extremely weak state. As for the strength of his Conqueror's Haki, Darren had roughly calculated the value for himself based on Kaido's explosive strength and the levels of Garp and Roger that he had witnessed, though it wasn't particularly accurate. Yet, Darren noticed that every time he endured the impact of Kaido's Conqueror's Haki, the strength of his own Haki would increase slightly.
Was it because he was constantly adapting, and his resistance to the impact of Conqueror's Haki was increasing? Considering this, Darren's expression suddenly became peculiar as many thoughts raced through his mind. Fatty Queen let out a long breath once he saw his boss had finally suppressed his violent temper. He glanced at Darren and Bullet, his small eyes darting around, and suddenly he laughed and said:
"Boss Kaido, why don't you leave them to me to handle? According to my method, it's estimated that within a few days, they'll cry out in pain and give in. Then they'll beg to join your command," Queen suggested confidently.
Kaido stared at Queen with intense eyes and asked suspiciously, "Are you sure, Queen?"
Queen nodded with a strange smile, lit the cigar he was biting on, took a puff happily, and posed to show off his muscles. "I'll take care of things, don't worry!"
His eyes flickered with the excitement of seeing interesting toys, and a thought secretly popped up in his mind: The strength of these two guys is quite good, and they are likely to be excellent experimental subjects.
"Very well," Kaido pondered for a second, then nodded in agreement. The situation in the New World is treacherous, with an overwhelming backlog of matters at hand. Although Darren and Bullet both demonstrate excellent potential and strength, successfully recruiting them would provide a significant boost to their dominance. However, he couldn't dedicate all his time and energy to these two brats.
According to the latest information, Roger has recently had contact with Whitebeard, causing Marine's high-end combat power to enter the New World waters. Many peripheral forces of the Beasts Pirates suffered because of this, facing indiscriminate disasters. Kaido needs to straighten out his forces and territory as soon as possible and discover what Roger and Whitebeard are discussing.
Whitebeard and Roger knew more about the sea's secrets than they did themselves. After all, it was Whitebeard who conveyed Rocks' invitation to Kaido, leading him to join the Rocks Pirates as an intern pirate. The Valley of the Gods battle broke out too suddenly back then, and Kaido didn't have time to uncover many secrets about Rocks. Perhaps Whitebeard and Roger would know something.
If they were the first to find the legendary secret treasure... Thinking of this, Kaido's face became gloomy. He picked up the huge spiked mace and said coldly to his two captives, "Ten days later, I will come here again. When the time comes, little devils, give your final answer."
With this ultimatum given, Kaido walked out of the prison with his mace, dragging his huge body. He climbed the crooked stairs step by step and passed through cave walls similar to those that were dug out. On the way, many pirates wearing animal skins and horned helmets bowed in salute to the gloomy Kaido.
Kaido ignored them, passed through the heavily guarded checkpoint, and finally arrived on the ground. What came into view was a barren land, devoid of grass, with yellow-brown sand and dust swirling in the wind. In the distance were giant black buildings and stoves emitting a red glow, with the sounds of bellows and blacksmithing heard afar, as billowing black smoke drifted into the sky.
A pitch-black figure glided down from the sky at high speed, slightly vibrating its black wings, landing in front of Kaido. "Brother Kaido, those two guys didn't agree?"
