Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Rumble-Rumble Fruit
At the temple, the battle between Doflamingo and the God was still raging. Even Enel had thrown himself into the fray, engaging in a fight with a guard.
Diamante stood guard over the severely injured Vergo, ensuring he could receive treatment without further harm.
The residents, watching the two ongoing battles, felt a surge of anxiety, uncertain about their future. Whether the God or Doflamingo won, their fate was clear. The weak have no rights; they can only obey the commands of the strong.
Enel, despite his injuries, was able to hold his own against the guard thanks to his natural talent.
"Traitor, are you only good at running away? You were so tough-talking earlier," the guard said angrily, seeing that he couldn't get the better of Enel.
"Heh, can't you see I'm injured? Otherwise, I could take on ten of you," Enel retorted, stubbornly refusing to admit weakness.
"What a joke! You can't even handle one of me, let alone ten. What boasting," the guard scoffed.
"Prepare to die, traitor!"
The guard unleashed several slashes, aiming to restrict Enel's movements and prevent him from dodging. He wanted to force Enel into a direct confrontation. The guard was unharmed, having not participated in the previous battles, and his strength was at its peak. This gave him confidence that he could quickly dispatch Enel.
Enel had no choice but to meet the guard head-on. Their fists collided, and, surprisingly, neither side gained an advantage. This infuriated the guard. He couldn't even defeat an injured Enel? What kind of guard was he?
Both retreated after the initial clash, remaining silent, tacitly agreeing to another exchange.
However, the guard still couldn't gain the upper hand. This deeply troubled him.
"Damn it! Damn traitor! Even if I die, I'll take you down with me!" The guard, filled with righteous fury, was particularly hateful of the traitorous Enel.
"So much talk, but I don't see much skill. Besides, I don't consider myself one of you. Have you forgotten what you did to me? I'm an avenger now. I'm going to return all the pain you inflicted on me," Enel retorted sarcastically. The residents in the distance, hearing this, felt a pang of guilt, but their fear of Enel was greater. They hoped the guard would kill him; otherwise, they would be the ones to suffer in the end.
"A traitor is a traitor. There's no point in arguing. Prepare to die!" The guard, knowing they were in the wrong regarding Enel, consciously ended the topic.
"Then let's see who dies!" Enel's face turned fierce, his killing intent evident.
The two engaged in a desperate struggle. The disparity in their equipment was obvious. The guard wielded offensive weapons like Slash Dials, while Enel fought barehanded, putting him at a disadvantage. Moreover, Enel was seriously injured, while the guard was in perfect condition. As a result, the initial stalemate gradually shifted to Enel's disadvantage.
Meanwhile, the battle between the God and Doflamingo resembled a game of cat and mouse, one chasing, the other dodging, proving rather tedious.
"I don't believe you can maintain this high speed forever," Doflamingo muttered, annoyed by the God's evasive maneuvers.
The God was also in a difficult position. In his earlier fight with Vergo, he had used the powerful Reject Dial to quickly finish off his opponent, severely injuring his own hand in the process. Another clash with Doflamingo had further aggravated the injury, leaving his hand numb. He had intended to use the Jet Dial's high speed to create distance, allowing him to ease his injuries and replenish his supply of combat Dials. However, Doflamingo stuck to him like glue, thwarting his plan.
The Jet Dial's power was dwindling. The God knew that if this continued, he would be unable to escape, and death was almost certain. Gritting his teeth and stomping his foot, the God made a difficult decision. He would have to rely on the power of the devil. Only by using the power left behind by his ancestors could he turn the tide of battle. Although he considered himself a descendant of God and looked down on the power of Devil Fruits, he had no other choice.
Without further hesitation, the God unleashed the remaining power of the Jet Dial, sprinting towards the place where his ancestors' treasures were stored.
Doflamingo saw the God pulling away at full speed, heading towards the depths of the temple.
"That damn 'God' is trying to escape! Can you escape?" Doflamingo realized something was amiss and immediately accelerated, chasing after the God.
"Doffy, be careful!" Diamante, seeing Doflamingo chasing after the God, shouted anxiously, fearing that Doflamingo might fall into a trap.
But Doflamingo didn't respond to Diamante's concern, focusing entirely on the chase.
"Damn it! Just wait, I'll make you pay," the God muttered furiously, looking back at the pursuing Doflamingo.
He immediately used all the remaining combat Dials he had, hoping to block Doflamingo's pursuit.
Several slashes and impacts flew towards Doflamingo, who narrowly dodged them. But to Doflamingo's surprise, the God, that crafty old fox, also threw out his last Flash Dial amidst the barrage of attacks.
Doflamingo's eyes twitched, sensing danger. His Observation Haki had already predicted the old fox's scheme. Although he had sunglasses, such intense light could still cause momentary blindness. He quickly closed his eyes, continuing to follow the God's movements using his Observation Haki.
The God knew his attacks wouldn't be very effective, hoping only to delay Doflamingo for a little while.
Although it was only a few seconds, these tactics bought the God enough distance. Doflamingo's Observation Haki could only vaguely sense the God's figure.
It was a simple, ancient room. Inside stood a statue of an angel, its body shimmering like jade, its features exquisitely detailed, even the feathers on its wings clearly visible. All of this showcased the superb craftsmanship. But what was most striking was that the angel held a box in its hands, the contents of which were unknown.
The God ran into the room in a panic, not even pausing to catch his breath before rushing to the statue. Looking at the statue, he spoke respectfully, "Forgive me, ancestors. Your unworthy descendant has come to seek the power of the devil. I have no choice but to accept this power to defeat the powerful enemy. Please forgive me, ancestors."
After speaking, he quickly took the box from the angel's hands, took a deep breath, and impatiently opened it.
Inside the box was a blue fruit with a spiral pattern resembling lightning bolts. Surprisingly, there were no signs of decay on the fruit. Beneath the fruit was a sheet of paper made of unknown material. Its placement with the Devil Fruit indicated its importance.
"Is this the power of the devil?" the God murmured, looking at the fruit.
He casually picked up the fruit, ignoring the paper underneath. Gazing at the alluring fruit, he immediately decided to eat it and confront Doflamingo.
"Stop!"
Doflamingo arrived quickly, his eyes widening in fury as he witnessed the scene. He roared in protest.
Doflamingo's eyes turned red. The object of his desires, the thing he had dreamed of, was right before him, held by the God, about to be consumed. The Rumble-Rumble Fruit had appeared, and the situation was tense.
