Chapter 16: Chapter Sixteen (Izla Soaring in the Sky)
The airplane soared through the sky, and Izla's heart ached with sorrow as she left the place where she had grown up. For hours, she remained in the air, anxiously awaiting the plane's landing. A sense of fear and insecurity overwhelmed her, being far from her father, who had left her to face the unknown.
She stayed in this state until sleep overcame her, offering a brief escape from her reality and herself. It wasn't long before Daniel gently woke her, informing her they had arrived in their city in America. As the plane landed at the airport, Izla barely noticed Daniel pulling her hand to guide her out. She walked, bewildered, her eyes scanning the people and taking in the stark contrast between this place and the one she had left behind.
This was nothing like the serene environment she had lived in. Here, the crowd was dense, and everyone seemed to be rushing, as if they were in a constant race to grab something their hearts desired. Strange were their behaviors and attire—some chattered incessantly without purpose, while others were enveloped in utter silence, seemingly searching in vain for something lost. It seemed as if no one paused to enjoy the moments of their lives, each caught up in a relentless pursuit of something—or many things.
On their way to hail a taxi, Daniel told her he would take her to her aunt's house, following her father's instructions. She didn't object, as she now found herself utterly alone, with no one to rely on but this aunt she knew nothing about. The car drove them for several more kilometers, and Izla began to feel exhausted and drained. She had never used such means of transportation before, nor had she ever left the familiar confines of her home. Now, everything had changed, leading her to an entirely different world and exposing her to things she had never known.
When they finally arrived at the house, it was modest yet pleasant, with two stories and a charming garden. Daniel stepped out with Izla, leaving his friends behind at the airport. He reached out and pressed the doorbell. Minutes passed, but no one answered. Izla's heart raced with anxiety, fearing there might be no one there, leaving her lost and stranded in this foreign place.
