Chapter 2141: The Dashavatara (Krishna, Matsya) -part 9
Matsya pondered a little more but was interrupted by the current fighting status of Ress. As the first Avatar of the Celestial, he had been tasked to take down the monstrous capital right in front of him.
However, the imminent death of his fishmen was something that he did not expect. Even with his Celestial Sea Horn to call upon more fishmen from the Celestial plane to his behest, it was surprisingly not sufficient to curb the fighting that was occurring right in front of him.
Unlike the times where his fishmen would always swim the skies as if they were swimming in the sea, they were all struggling to stay competitive in this attrition for air superiority. The Rifle Mages stationed in Ress were definitely more than what the Sea Fortress of Lyro had and they were veterans who had gone through thousands of dungeon sessions.
Compared to those Rank EX dungeons that they were forced to fight in, the Rifle Mages felt that the Fishmen were considered to be just S Ranks or maybe A Ranks despite being Celestial in nature. But it is also precisely because they were celestial in nature, that the Rifle Mages had taken the advice of Jin that they could possibly be immortal. Your next chapter is on empire
Thus, their fight was not to eliminate them straight but to endure the fighting until either side fell.
Most thought it was just caution in the winds but unfortunately, after the first hour of fighting, the Rifle Mages experienced it first hand and finally understood what Jin meant, why their king was so insistent in using the rifles and other tech gadgets to complement the magical abilities of the Mages.
Why standardisation of equipment was important and the consistent grinding of the same Rank EX dungeons again and again. It was not just to kill difficult monsters and gain resources but to handle the repetitive nature of the fights.
The fishmen died easily and Avatar Matsya did not need to dispense a lot of his celestial powers to revive them because of the deep connection he had with his soldiers. But they were also not exactly the most sturdy when fighting with enemies that have similar capabilities.
They saw how simple the Rifle Mages were and initially underestimated them. They all thought that these mages were the same as every other human society where they brought out their very best and cast a ton of high level offensive spells to kill them.
Sure it was effective in the first half an hour of the battle, with the humans thinking that they were able to defeat all of them easily and only had to contend against their general.
But with Matsya and other Avatars' similar capabilities, they were able to revive once more to win the fight. By then, most of the mages would have been exhausted, providing a clear win for the Celestial Avatars. However, for this round, it was not the same at all. Even as they died, the Rifle Mages felt like they were already prepared for the next round.
Boom and their head was gone by the explosive shot they sent out.
It was to the point where Matsya had also asked Krishna to beef up his fishmen into Greater Warrior Fishmen so that they could withstand better hits. But unlike the battle against the Sea Fortress, the Rifle Mages in Ress took care of the Greater Warrior Fishmen even more easily. Celestial Enchanter Krishna had no choice but to buff them even more making them more attuned to their fishmen weapons.
Hence, the birth of High Trident Fishmen and High Archer Fishmen had been mixed in the ranks of the Fishmen army, bringing it more challenge for the Rifle Mages…or so they thought.
It seemed like the Rifle Mage Corps had also been keeping a few aces under their sleeves as the moment they realised normal explosive shots do not work on them as well, they changed their ammunition to Void Explosive bullets. Just by contacting with the shot would cause a small void corruption to happen before it explodes inwardly.
This brought down the 3rd tier of Fishmen but they had to use that ammunition carefully since there were only limited quantities each Rifle Mage could carry.
That was precisely why the communication system set up by Jin's System was crucial in making sure that there were no hiccups and precise information was given to them.
In a way, one could say that each of the Rifle Mages that had been 'produced' by the state were all tagged in one way or another by the System, enabling them to work not just as a team but also with subconscious instructions given to them to smoothen the cog process even more.
This had been one of the reasons why the Rifle Mages could maintain air superiority against the fishmen in the skies of Ress. The System was keeping track of them so closely that there was no need for a huge headquarters to man the communication flows.
There were still some around to coordinate the bigger picture stuff like the tracking of the ten avatars and their activities so that the big wigs of Ress could have a better picture of the battlefield.
Otherwise, Jin had given the System full control to be the battlefield tactician for this fight since they were fighting at odds where one army could die but the other did not. The System was also aware of this and noted the potential of what this world could bring after staying in here for some time.
With the absurd extreme time difference between Atopia and Jin's homeworld, Ress could potentially be a super factory that could create things almost instantaneously.
And because of that, the value of Ress suddenly rocketed to a useless city meant to be wiped up in a trial of a Higher Demon to regain his powers to a city that proved to be extremely meaningful to create near deus ex machina possibilities for Jin in his original homeworld.
That was why the System was giving its all to protect Ress too.
