Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Sahori "So these guys! They're denying the traditions and practices since the seniors' time! They don't listen to us upperclassmen!"
As soon as he entered the gymnasium, Sahori-senpai started passionately explaining to the senior OBs that the current generation is disrespecting the OB generation.
Maybe he was talking about this even before coming to the gymnasium?
Now a second-year university senior. The senior from four years ago, from my perspective, is glaring at us.
Scary. Aren't they already adults?
For the current second-year Captain, the university first-year seniors are the great seniors who directly guided them, considered as OB year 1.
Those seniors become submissive to even more senior OBs, considered as OB year 2.
The atmosphere is heavy.
OB 2 "Sahori, the purpose of the OB visit isn't to force them to listen to what the OBs say. Though if they're changing things without reason, that's out of the question."
The senior silenced Sahori-senpai with authoritative words.
Practice begins. Since the seniors are watching, the practice is strict and tough.
The OBs join in too, and we do high-intensity practice. It's almost the same as yesterday's university practice.
In reality, the current practice is tougher than during the previous Captain's time.
Even so! The OBs' demands are tough! Strong! We can't slack off!
Sahori "Hey! Don't slack off! Seniors! Please scold them!"
Sahori, looking pleased while watching the practice, tries to push us even harder during the already stricter-than-usual physical conditioning practice by egging on the seniors.
Did OB 2 senior grab Sahori by the scruff of the neck?
OB 2 "Why have you been trying to give us orders since earlier? You were still active until recently, weren't you! Aren't you supposed to show the greatness of the seniors! Show your back to the juniors!"
Ah, continuing?
OB 2 senior starts lecturing Sahori.
You! You're always just trying to ingratiate yourself with those above you!
It's because you guys spoiled them!
Furthermore, OB 1 senior gets scolded.
Why do you deny the juniors' ingenuity?
Your generation is shorter on average height and has lower scoring ability!
Sahori, looking dissatisfied,
Then shouldn't we increase our scoring ability like before?
The senior gets angry!
When the players change, the tactics change! When tactics change, the practice has to change too! Back then, the members were suited for offense-focused individual skills, but the current members are judged to be suited for defensive and organized offense and defense, so the practice menu emphasizes physical conditioning with higher intensity than in our era!
What are you even looking at! You join in too!
The OB explained to us,
Sahori is denying the practice and team style that has continued since the seniors' generation, mocking it, and saying we third-years don't listen to him!
It's our generation! Don't interfere! is what he said?
Doing lax practice sloppily... he couldn't stand watching the basketball club rot, so he came to appeal directly to us...!
Everyone glares at Sahori-senpai.
Sahori, getting angry in return,
Sahori "Aggressive fast breaks are our tradition and color, right! Even if we're short, even if our scoring ability is low! It's fine even if we lose like that!"
Anyway, he doesn't like that the juniors don't follow his instructions.
It feels like he doesn't want the juniors to achieve more than his generation did.
Really pathetic...!
The OB is hardline! Sahori is on trial!
I want to condemn Sahori.
OB "If you say that much, then have a match this afternoon, third-years versus first and second-years."
Sahori "We're retired, you know?!"
OB "Even if you say you're retired, it's only been two months since the summer tournament, right? First game of a doubleheader. Just do it!"
Sahori, harshly told off by the senior, glares at us resentfully,
He tried to cut short the physical conditioning practice, but the OB senior didn't let him escape.
Good, I thought the OB senior was on Sahori's side...!
Sahori, getting wrung out alongside us. No need for honorifics anymore, right?
Even doing the same practice, Sahori can barely keep up.
...This guy definitely has talent, maybe a genius type.
Even so, he's got a tendency to be soft on himself, doesn't push himself, and has the nerve to use lack of practice as an excuse.
Isn't talent or whatever a matter for national tournament level or pro level? For our level, it's about the amount of practice and seriousness, right?
This guy thinks losing after trying hard is uncool... If he's going to lose, he'd rather prepare an excuse for it! That's the kind of person he is.
I can't understand it.
Why on earth was Airi-senpai dating this guy?
After plenty of practice in the morning, after lunch, we do practical training in various offensive and defensive situations!
Sahori "!! The match is in the afternoon, isn't it?!"
After doing offensive and defensive situations, right? Don't slack off, okay?
It seems Sahori thought he could face the match without stamina concerns after the lunch break.
Hearing that the match is after proper practice, he protests that it's unfair!
OB "Enough already! What's unfair about having a match after the same practice! The active members are at peak fatigue on the third day of training camp, aren't they! Don't slack off!"
Sahori "Why? Wasn't OB practice just a legal way for OBs to bully juniors?"
The senior, getting seriously angry,
OB "Huh?! So that's how you saw us during OB practice? Didn't the OBs take the lead in practicing and showing you! If we're showing anything, it's that even this tough practice is something we seniors can handle easily!"
The afternoon practice is tough too.
But since the seniors took the lead and showed us their backs, we desperately clung on.
And finally, the last match begins.
Active generation versus third-years.
After that, active generation versus OBs in a two-game series!
