Chapter 25: Chapter 26: Do You Have Such a Commander?
Marian affectionately leaned against Green's chest, like a cat that had run away for years and was finally found by its owner, gently rubbing her head against his chest.
Rubbing...
After enough of that, she blinked her eyes at Green and, as if combing her hair, carefully unwound the two pieces of bandages from her head, cupping them in her hands and offering them to Green.
"Ah-uh... Woo!"
"Uh, what does this mean?" Anis tilted her head, confused.
"Maybe she wants to play a game with the commander?" Neon suggested.
The three of them looked on, puzzled but Green knew exactly what Marian wanted.
He reached out his hands, took the bandages from her, wrapped them back around Marian's head, and then gently patted her on the head.
"Commander~!" Marian joyfully hugged Green again.
"Marian is really spoiled," Anis muttered, "She can't even say my name, but with the commander, she immediately says she likes him and wants him to wrap her bandages. What's this, preferential treatment?"
"Oh~ Anis, are you jealous?" Neon's glasses sparkled with a knowing gleam.
"Oh please~, how could I possibly be jealous of a little kid? I just..." Anis glanced at Marian, who was interacting affectionately with Green, and a faint feeling of jealousy stirred in her heart. "Forget it, never mind."
Anis, with her naturally twisted personality, couldn't stand such straightforward displays of affection because it was something she could never bring herself to do. But now Marian, right in front of her, was being all sweet with Green and kept shouting that she liked him.
Anis felt very complicated inside… even though she had already a one-night stand with the Commander.
However, no matter what, she wouldn't stoop to throwing a tantrum at a little child.
"Ah, being a child is so nice. You can easily act cute to adults, say things you normally can't, and everyone around you tolerates you so much." Anis sighed and lamented, "I wish I could be a child again."
"I support giving Anis a flat-chested body," Neon said with a grin.
"You support that, huh?" Anis gave a crooked smile.
"But if you're a child, and you have strict parents, you'll probably get whipped with a belt, right?" Neon said.
"Yeah, you have a point. I'll stick with being an examinee. At least I'm in a privileged class," Anis thought for a moment, then changed her mind.
"An examinee is a privileged class?"
"Yeah, I mean think about it. If you're about to take an exam, not only will adults sympathize with your hard work, but they'll also have cars pick you up, take you wherever, and even give you student discounts when shopping on various platforms. If you're an adult, all you get is the cruel reality."
"Eh, I wish I could be an examinee for life~"
Anis dragged out the final syllable, falling into a moment of fantasy.
Neon pouted, "Anis, you're lazy as heck. I've never seen you study. Are you planning to get a lazy person's certificate?"
Anis shot back, "A true lazy person wouldn't apply for a lazy person's certificate, so anyone with one isn't lazy!"
Though it sounded like a fallacy, Green thought for a moment and realized Anis was actually making a point.
"Anis, are you heading into the philosophy world?"
"Commander, this isn't philosophy. This is my valuable life experience!"
"As the saying goes, if you don't listen to Anis, you'll suffer... right in front of you..."
"Stop, stop, stop, no more nagging. Let's all brainstorm together about how to teach Marian to speak."
"Ah-woo?"
After a brief discussion with the Counters Squad, they decided to each take on a role.
Anis would teach Marian spelling, Neon would handle math, Rapi would oversee general education, and Green would teach Marian some basic common sense.
"Come on, follow me, Marian. 1, 2, 3, 4!"
"1, 2, 3, 4—"
"We can't skip the letters either. Marian, let's spell together: a, b, c, d, e, f, g~"
"a?"
Seeing them teaching Marian, Rapi shook her head.
"Anis, Neon, you need to explain the definitions first before teaching," Rapi said, picking up a preschool education manual. In a tone like a patient wife, she explained to Marian, "Marian, what you're learning now are math and language."
Rapi then began explaining.
"Math is one of the basic concepts that build the world, and language is the means by which humans communicate normally. If you want to communicate with us, you need to understand these concepts."
"Math? Language? I... Commander?" Marian blinked, looking back at Green.
Rapi seemed to understand her meaning and nodded, "Yes, exactly."
"As long as you learn language, you'll be able to talk to the commander."
"Talk! Commander~"
"I'll teach her too." Green picked up a dictionary and, along with the other three, patiently started explaining to Marian.
For humans, education wasn't an easy thing. Schools often required more than ten years to nurture a person who had a brain full of knowledge. But Marian's learning ability was incredibly strong. After just two or three hours, she was already able to say short sentences.
"Neon, firepower!"
"Rapi, teacher~"
"Anis, examinee!"
"Commander, I like you!"
Standing in the commander's office, Marian called out the names of the four people one by one before walking up to Green, showing a tearful expression.
"Commander, hungry!"
"I'll go prepare something to eat." Green turned and walked into the kitchen.
There were still some Splendamin from earlier, along with the leftover processed meat and rice from lunch, and Anis' soda. Green skillfully placed the relatively tender processed meat into a bowl, started the stove, and cracked a rather precious egg.
Crack.
He gently tapped the egg and poured the liquid into the pan.
Sizzle.
The sound of frying rice, mixed with the aroma of the meat, caused the four Niki in the bedroom to frequently glance over. Now they knew who had the best cooking skills in the Counterattack Unit.
"Although Commander rarely cooks but when he does, he really makes delicious food," Anis licked her lips. She had tasted the food Green made before. Although it was just simple home-cooked dishes, they were honestly delicious.
It was probably a billion times better than Splendamin.
"A man who works seriously is the most handsome sight in the world." Neon took out her phone, "Master, I'm sorry, I'm going to take a picture of you cooking and post it on my account."
"Uh, I want to post it too!" Anis was the first to take out her phone and snap a photo of Green cooking.
Then, she quickly typed out a headline:
[Soda is the Best (Anis): Handsome Commander Cooking for Nikke, This is Our Counters Unit's Commander Green, Do You Have a Commander Like This?]
