NBA Skills: Dominating Kuroko no Basket

Chapter 97: A Chance Encounter?

"Why are you two dawdling so much?" Maki teased with a gentle smile on her face.

Seeing Shiro and Momoi so close and inseparable, her heart brimmed with joy. How could Maki not be happy seeing her son and his girlfriend in such a good relationship?

"Alright, enough of that" Shiro said, waving his hand as he quickly pulled Momoi over to the dining table. The two sat down to enjoy breakfast together.

After finishing their meal, Maki stood up, ready to head to work.

She had changed into a sleek and elegant business suit, exuding a confident and professional aura. That morning's dress had been purely for making a good impression on Momoi, but now, work was her top priority.

As she was about to leave, Maki glanced back at Shiro and Momoi, a hint of reluctance in her eyes. After all, her son had just arrived, and now she had no time to spend with him.

"I have an important project to complete today and might be busy until late. You two should go out and have some fun. Don't worry about expenses — they're on me" she said, her tone tinged with helplessness.

Shiro and Momoi exchanged a look, understanding and supporting her without needing words. They both knew how important her work was.

"Mom, don't worry! We'll take care of ourselves" Shiro said reassuringly, and Momoi nodded with a smile.

"Good, good. Just make sure you don't give Momoi a hard time, Shiro. And Momoi, if this rascal treats you badly, tell me — I'll set him straight!" Maki's tone shifted dramatically as she turned to scold her son.

"Are you even my real mom?" Shiro muttered, exasperated, while Momoi covered her mouth, giggling at their banter.

After Maki left, Shiro and Momoi decided not to stay idle. They chose to explore New York City and experience its vibrant charm.

Though they still felt a bit tired, anticipation filled their steps as they ventured out the door, ready to explore new sights.

Though they still felt a bit tired, anticipation filled their steps as they ventured out the door, ready to explore new sights.

Momoi clung to Shiro's arm, her face glowing with happiness as she excitedly pointed out sights and shared her thoughts with him.

They strolled through bustling streets, marveling at the towering skyscrapers and throngs of people.

Momoi's curiosity about every new sight led her to pepper Shiro with questions about the city's landmarks and culture.

After walking for a while, they found a cozy café to take a break. The atmosphere was serene, with a subtle aroma of coffee wafting through the air.

Resting her head on Shiro's shoulder, Momoi murmured, "Shiro, it's so nice having you here."

Gently stroking her hair, Shiro smiled warmly and replied, "I feel the same way. Every day with you is happiness."

Just then, outside the café, an elderly couple walked by, their hands interlocked as they moved gracefully and peacefully. Their love and harmony radiated from them, even in their old age.

"Shiro, do you think we'll be like that someday?" Momoi asked softly, closing her eyes.

"We will. Always" Shiro answered with quiet determination, squeezing her hand tightly.

Feeling his sincerity, Momoi smiled sweetly, her heart overflowing with warmth.

After a brief rest, they continued their stroll, wandering through lively commercial areas and into a tranquil park. Surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of chirping birds, they basked in the peaceful ambiance.

Hand in hand, they walked along winding paths, cherishing the rare moment of leisure.

They paused to watch street performers, occasionally swaying to the music, or browsed through small shops for unique local souvenirs.

Though the morning's activities left them somewhat fatigued, their enthusiasm remained undiminished. They eagerly embraced the precious time shared between them.

By noon, their growling stomachs prompted them to find a spot for lunch. Afterward, they returned home, lounging on the bed and drifting into a refreshing nap.

In the afternoon, sunlight streamed through the curtains, gently waking them. Sitting together on the couch, they cuddled while enjoying the view outside. It felt as though time had paused, enveloping them in a serene, perfect moment.

"Momoi, do you feel like going out again this afternoon?" Shiro asked, breaking the silence.

Momoi furrowed her brows in thought before an idea lit up her face. "How about we go play basketball?" she suggested excitedly.

Momoi especially loved watching Shiro play basketball. Seeing him pour his heart into the game, sweating and hustling on the court, was simply mesmerizing.

"Sure" Shiro agreed with a grin.

"Hah! I bet you've been wanting to play all along but were just waiting for me to bring it up!" Momoi teased, instantly seeing through him.

Shiro scratched his head sheepishly and laughed. "You know me too well, Momoi. Mua~" he said, quickly planting a kiss on her cheek. Pulling out his phone, he opened a map app and searched for nearby courts.

Before long, they found an outdoor basketball court not far away. "Let's take a cab there" Shiro suggested eagerly.

Open-air basketball courts are plentiful in the U.S., seemingly popping up every few blocks.

When they arrived, Shiro and Momoi eagerly stepped out of the car and walked into the court.

A lively game was already in progress, with a crowd of spectators gathered around. The energy and love for basketball in the U.S. were palpable.

They noticed a player on the court—about 6'3" (190 cm) — making impressive moves.

With a smooth fadeaway jumper, he scored over a defender, the ball swishing cleanly through the net.

Cheers erupted from the crowd, praising his skills.

Shiro and Momoi were both surprised, finding the player's face oddly familiar.
