Chapter 20: Chapter 47: Personnel Changes
Chapter 47: Personnel Changes
The night passed quickly, and Natsuki Subaru, leaning against the bedside, showed anger and sadness on his face.
He woke up from a nightmare, staring blankly at everything around him.
Only after realizing that he was in the library did he slowly breathe a sigh of relief.
Last night, after entering the library, Subaru saw Beatrice sleeping.
After lifting her up and laying her on the bed, he sat beside her and studied until midnight, when he finally succumbed to sleep.
Subaru turned his head to look at Beatrice, still lying asleep on the bed.
His expression grew somewhat uneasy as he recalled the fragmented nightmare.
In the dream, he died over and over again, failing to save anything.
The things he did before dying repeatedly were only known to himself.
One person fighting for a goal, finally achieving the desired ending, but realizing that no one knew what he had done, and even becoming an enemy to those he had saved.
At the end of the dream, he was surrounded by those people, branded with the mark of sin, and then killed.
This kind of effort without reward, and being misunderstood by everyone, made Subaru's body tremble involuntarily.
Maybe it was just a dream, but Subaru couldn't help but think—is it really worth it?
However, this doubt did not trouble him for long.
After all, since he started saving Emilia and Felt, he never wanted to gain anything from them.
If he wanted something, it would be their smiles.
Thinking this, Subaru stood up and stretched, then walked to the window to look at the slowly rising sun.
He knew tonight would be the decisive battle.
Regardless of whether they found the mastermind in the afternoon, he must stop Rem's death and the deaths in the village tonight.
Patting his cheek to wipe away sleepiness, Subaru was still afraid of death.
After all, death is not a pleasant feeling.
In that perverse god's game, he never clearly felt the pain before death.
Here, it was different. Every time he was resurrected, he could feel the pain before death.
But he couldn't back down out of fear of death.
Rather than living to see those tragedies happen, he would rather keep loading saves and retrying! That way, he was truly moving toward his cherished friend's back!
Subaru returned to the bedside, packed up his books, and was about to go out to work when he noticed Beatrice had woken up without him knowing when.
Beatrice's gaze focused on Subaru's face, and under her watchful eyes, Subaru smiled and raised his hand.
"Good morning, Beatrice."
"Hmph! Since when did you come in! Seeing your idiot face early in the morning ruined Betty's whole day."
Beatrice sat up and turned her head away, avoiding looking at Subaru's face. Sitting on the bed, she looked at the blanket covering her and unconsciously gripped it with her small hands.
"Well, I'm really sorry for ruining Lady Beatrice's wonderful mood today... I won't change in the future either. Until you smile when you see my face in the morning, I won't change."
Saying this, Subaru didn't wait for Beatrice's response but turned and walked toward the door. Just as he stepped out, he suddenly remembered something, turned back, and said to Beatrice:
"By the way, I might not come back for a while tonight. Beatrice, don't fall asleep sitting on a chair again. Kids should go to bed early, you know."
After saying this, Subaru didn't wait for Beatrice to get mad, he left and closed the door.
But Subaru didn't know that Beatrice wasn't angry at all.
When Beatrice opened her eyes and saw him, her gaze was actually smiling.
"Hmph, whether you come back or not, Betty doesn't care. Better if you never come back."
Saying this, Beatrice shifted her gaze away from the door to the blanket, thought for a moment, then lay back down and pulled the blanket over herself.
Beatrice wrapped herself like a dumpling in the blanket and tossed and turned on the bed.
"Ahhh!! Why is Betty's mood so strange! He's clearly just a weak human, just a human after all... Could he be that person...?"

While seriously working, Subaru felt something was off today. Where was this feeling coming from...?
Thinking this, Subaru turned to look at Ram beside him.
He tentatively tried to walk over, pretending to want to clean that side.
Before he could get there, Ram's voice stopped him.
"Barusu, where are you going?"
"Senior... I'm going to clean over there. Isn't the senior already here?"
"Barusu, since when did you think that after having a junior like you, I'd still work seriously? Come back, there's still dust here."
Subaru's eye twitched as he looked at Ram.
He was one hundred percent sure the strange feeling came from Ram.
Though this conversation was fine, Ram hadn't left much distance from him today.
It was like suddenly there was a bodyguard out of nowhere.
Or rather than a bodyguard, more like a monitor.
Thinking this, Subaru obediently went to Ram's side and started cleaning.
But in his mind, he wondered if Ram's monitoring was because Rem had told Roswaal and Ram about last night's events.
Whether or not, it didn't harm him or interfere with his plans.
It was just that Ram's attitude made him a little uncomfortable. He just needed to endure it.
With this thought, Subaru hypnotized himself to ignore Ram's presence and focused on cleaning.
But he didn't know that Ram's gaze never left him, constantly observing.
No one knew why Ram was so intent on watching Subaru's body and actions.
The whole day passed under Ram's watch. In the afternoon, feeling it was about time, Subaru casually asked,
"By the way, senior, do we have enough food in the mansion? I glanced this morning and it seemed the storage wasn't much."
Hearing this, Ram answered,
"Yes, because we have one useless servant added, the food really isn't enough. We need to go shopping this afternoon. But you don't need to worry about this; Rem can handle it alone."
"I don't want to be called a useless servant by a senior who does nothing just because they have a junior!"
Subaru complained like that, thinking about how to go to the village with Rem, when Rem came from the corridor behind Ram.
"Big sister, the mansion's food isn't enough. I plan to go shopping in the nearby village and bring Subaru along."
'Good job, Rem! Although I know your purpose isn't just here, you really helped a lot!'
Ram frowned but then calmly turned and said to Rem,
"Then there's no need to bring Barusu, Rem. After all, Barusu hasn't finished cleaning today."
Subaru and Rem were stunned by this. Rem quickly regained composure and said,
"But sister, as a servant of the mansion, he must learn everything about the mansion, so I have to take him. As for cleaning, Subaru can finish it after coming back."
"That's true. In that case, I'll take Subaru with me. That way, I can properly slack off too."
Saying this, Ram smiled, arms crossed, looking like a genius.
Subaru felt speechless inside.
Rem opened her mouth to say something but ultimately gave up on the idea of taking Subaru away to be alone.
"As expected of big sister, even slacking off looks so cute and charming. Then I'll trouble you, big sister."
Watching everything quietly, Subaru felt things were getting out of control.
Also... the interactions between Ram and Rem sisters really made him want to rant!
But he held back. No matter who went with him, as long as he could go to the village, it was fine.
And so, the personnel for going to the village was decided like this.
