Chapter 48: Flying time.

Minato crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. "Before we begin, tell me—why didn't you show up yesterday? We were all waiting for you."

Before I could answer, Guy chimed in with his usual dramatic flair. "Ren! This is exactly the kind of moment where wasting your youthful energy is a crime against passion!"

Kakashi just looked at me expectantly, silent but curious.

I shrugged. "I was training with Tsunade in taijutsu and lost track of time. That's all."

Minato chuckled lightly, while Kakashi gave me his signature unimpressed stare.

Guy, however, frowned. "But why don't you call Tsunade-sama your sensei? That's disrespectful."

I scratched the back of my head. "I don't feel like it. That's all."

Guy looked like he wanted to say something more, but Minato cut in before the lecture could start. "Alright, alright. Let's get to training."

He turned toward the others. "Kakashi, Guy—you two go ahead and spar. I need to check Ren's fuinjutsu progress first."

They nodded and moved toward the field.

Once they were out of earshot, I asked, "Why is Guy here, anyway?"

Minato smiled. "He and Kakashi always train here. Besides you, I think only Guy can call Kakashi his friend."

I nodded, accepting that explanation. "Fair enough."

Minato then pulled out a scroll and unsealed ink and sealing papers. "So, tell me—how much do you know about fuinjutsu?"

I straightened up. "Fuinjutsu is a versatile type of jutsu involving seals. It can be used to seal objects, living beings, chakra, and more into another object. It also includes restrictions, like movement sealing, or unsealing someone or something previously sealed."

Minato gave a small nod. "Good textbook definition. But do you know anything practical?"

I took the ink brush, formed a few kuji-in hand signs, and drew out basic sealing arrays I'd studied from the Uzumaki scroll.

Minato's eyes widened. "You're not a complete beginner, then."

I shrugged again. "Started learning yesterday."

His brow twitched. "Wait, you did all this in one day?"

"Yup," I said proudly.

Minato rubbed his temples. "I had higher expectations. I thought you'd at least be a little more advanced…"

My proud smirk wavered.

He sighed dramatically. "At this rate, you won't be able to learn the Flying Thunder God."

I blinked. "What?!"

I was floored. I'd hoped he'd teach it to me eventually, but hearing that he might not—it stung.

Then, Minato burst out laughing. "Relax, I'm kidding. For someone who started just yesterday, this is impressive."

I scowled. "Not funny."

Minato grinned. "It was a little funny."

I rolled my eyes, but inside I was relieved. "So, we're meeting here daily then?"

"Yeah," he said. "Evening works for both of us. I'll check on your progress and guide you. Just keep pushing forward."

Then I smirked, teasing, "By the way, you got your Uzumaki sealing book from your girlfriend, didn't you?"

Minato chuckled. "And you got yours from Mito Uzumaki herself. Fair trade, huh?"

We both laughed. Despite the teasing, it was nice to share this teacher-student camaraderie.

Eventually, we returned to where Kakashi and Guy were sparring, and I joined in for a few rounds. The training felt smoother now, more balanced. Everyone was improving.

**\[Two Months Later]**

Time passed quickly. A full year had gone by since Kakashi and I had graduated. We were now both eight years old.

And today, Guy finally graduated too.

He wasn't like other students—his physical strength had long surpassed academy standards, and after the Hokage saw his growth through his spying on our group's training, his promotion was fast-tracked.

Even though Guy lacked ninjutsu skill, his conviction was overwhelming. He trained either with us or with his father, Might Duy. Still, he had no assigned jonin-sensei.

That's when I stepped in.

I approached Tsunade and convinced her to take Guy as a student. She was hesitant at first, but with a little persuasion—some sweet words, a little emotional manipulation—I managed to make her accept. She trusted me, and I promised I'd take responsibility for him.

If she hadn't agreed, Minato had been ready to take Guy under his wing. But that would've messed with the future—Obito and Rin's place on Minato's team needed to remain unchanged.

Even if I had given up on hiding everything, I wasn't foolish enough to throw away what I knew about the timeline.

Now, every evening, the three of us—Kakashi, Guy, and I—trained together.

As usual, Minato appeared in a flash of yellow light, teleporting directly into our training ground.

That Flying Raijin teleport—every time I saw it, it mesmerized me. The way he crossed dimensions in an instant…it stirred something deep in me. I *had* to master that jutsu someday. No matter what.

Minato and I walked off to the side, where I used Wood Release to create a set of chairs and a table. We sat down, and he reviewed my fuinjutsu.

I had now completely finished mastering all the techniques from the Uzumaki sealing book's basic volume. My foundation was strong.

But Minato still urged me to fine-tune everything—to reach the point where I could instinctively understand every aspect of basic seals.

After the session, we returned to the others. Minato gathered us together, a rare excitement on his face.

"I've got good news," he said. "After speaking with Tsunade sama, we've both decided—Kakashi, Guy, Ren—all three of you will participate in the upcoming Chunin Exams. They're one month from now."

My eyes widened slightly, and I felt the thrill rise in my chest.

"So let's all train together," Minato continued. "We don't have much time, but I believe in all of you."

And just like that, our training had a new goal.
