Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Battle Amidst Chaos(1) edited
Chapter 14 (Revised)
Hundreds of jutsu exploded across the battlefield at once. Massive fireballs and earth-style attacks lit up the Uchiha district like it was broad daylight. The Root ninja had already retreated after launching their assault, not wanting to get caught in the destruction.
Danzo watched the towering explosion with narrowed eyes, gripping his cane tightly.
"That should have killed him."
The air beside him shimmered. Obito emerged from the distortion, his cloak torn and smoking. He was breathing hard, his Sharingan glowing fiercely through the cracks in his broken mask.
Danzo's gaze didn't shift. The explosion had been immense enough to erase anyone caught in its heart. Even he had taken a step back from its raw force. Victory should've been assured.
"He should be injured greatly?"
But something felt off. The air was too still, too heavy. Off-balance.
Obito's voice broke the silence.
"You bastard…" His tone was laced with exhaustion, but sharp enough to cut. "You planned to take me out with that blast, didn't you?"
Danzo turned calmly. "With Izanagi, I knew you wouldn't die." His voice was level, but Obito caught the flicker of calculation in his eye. "Besides, I helped you. One less enemy in your way."
Obito exhaled—a short, bitter scoff. The heat of the explosion still clung to his skin, and his body ached from overusing Kamui. He'd barely escaped in time. Had Izanagi not been active…
But another voice interrupted, cold and scornful.
"Hiding for so long… and this is what you came up with?"
Danzo froze. A chill slid down his spine as the words echoed across the battlefield. The flames at the blast's centre dimmed, replaced by a strange, golden glow.
No… It can't be.
Silence fell.
Root operatives shifted, tension rising like a storm.
A single footstep echoed.
Then another.
The smoke parted.
Kaito stood amid the rubble, untouched. Golden light flickered around him, ancient and ominous. A glowing ribcage of pure chakra wrapped around his body like a guardian spirit.
A gust of wind cleared the last of the smoke.
And there it was—Susanoo.
Danzo instinctively stepped back.
"That… that…"
The skeletal ribs expanded. Arms grew, a head formed, and the full shape of the spectral warrior loomed into being.
"This is… Susanoo!"
Danzo's eye widened. As a student of the Second Hokage, he was familiar with the legends. Susanoo, the Uchiha's ultimate defence. Tales of Madara wielding it like a god of war. Stories that said it could level mountains and alter rivers.
His voice was barely a whisper, but the name rippled through the battlefield. Even the Root operatives couldn't hide their unease.
Obito watched in silence, his fatigue forgotten.
"Mangekyō Sharingan…"
His expression darkened. He understood more than Danzo ever could. The Mangekyō granted power, but control took time. Discipline. Pain.
He must've awakened it before Itachi, Obito thought. To hide it this long... he's more dangerous than I thought.
