Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Obito’s Mischievous Plan
"Heh, look at this poor guy."
A man with crimson eyes smirked mockingly, his Sharingan spinning lazily in his sockets.
Before him, Aoyama Kenichi stood frozen, as if his mind had been wiped clean.
No need to guess.
The sudden appearance of this red-eyed troublemaker could only mean one thing: our morally ambiguous buddy, Obito Uchiha, had arrived.
After sensing his genjutsu unravel, Obito had promptly made his way to the envoy's inn, coincidentally catching Kenichi mid-leap.
"Poor guy," Obito mused, shaking his head in mock pity. "Ran into me—must've skipped checking his horoscope this morning."
Having sifted through Kenichi's memories just moments ago, Obito was well aware of the unfortunate series of events that had befallen him tonight.
Within seconds, the commotion had drawn the attention of a nearby ANBU ninja. The masked figure approached swiftly, his gaze flicking between the masked Obito and the stupefied Kenichi.
"Why are you here? And this envoy… what's going on?"
Obito waved dismissively, a grin tugging at his lips. "Big matters. Fetch fox for me—I'll brief him directly."
"…Understood!"
The ANBU member vanished into the night, leaving Obito alone with Kenichi.
Not long after, a silver-haired man stepped out from the shadows, his mask glinting faintly in the moonlight. He approached with a hint of curiosity.
"Obito, what's going on?"
Shrugging, Obito offered, "It's a bit complicated. Want me to show you via genjutsu?"
Kakashi hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
Obito's Sharingan flared a vivid crimson, pulling Kakashi into a world of illusion.
Inside the genjutsu, Obito's voice echoed.
"Worried there might be spies in the envoy, I took some precautions beforehand. Turns out I was right. Here's what I found in this little rat's memories."
As Obito's words faded, a series of vivid scenes unfolded before Kakashi.
The Raikage's dark, stern face filled the frame, startling Kakashi.
Σ(っ °Д °;)っ
Realizing he was seeing the Raikage from Kenichi's perspective, Kakashi steadied himself.
The Raikage spoke gravely:
"…When the time comes, I will bring our army to the border, creating a diversion for you. The Land of Fire craves peace and won't risk outright conflict with us. While in Konoha, act as needed—no matter the cost, bring back a Byakugan from the Hyūga Clan for Kumogakure!"
Kakashi's heart sank. Kumogakure, preparing for war?
Before he could process the implications, another memory played out.
Kenichi, staring into a mirror, murmured to himself:
"…If I can infiltrate the Hyūga estate and succeed, all the better. If not… I'll die here in Konoha. That way, Raikage-sama will have a reason to demand the Byakugan by force."
The genjutsu ended abruptly, dragging Kakashi back to reality.
Obito deactivated his Sharingan and spread his hands casually. "That's the gist of it. Thoughts?"
Kakashi's expression was grave. "This is serious. We need to inform Minato-sensei immediately!"
Glancing at Kenichi, Kakashi added, "We'll bring him along. Minato-sensei can decide how to handle him."
Obito nodded. "Got it!"
Snapping his fingers, Obito directed Kenichi, now fully under his genjutsu, to obediently follow.
"Alright, let's go."
Watching Obito's confident stride, Kakashi couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.
The Sharingan is so cool. I wish I had one…
...
At Minato's Home
Kakashi and Obito sat beside the Fourth Hokage, recounting everything Kenichi had revealed.
Minato's brows knitted together as he listened.
"So, the Land of Lightning claimed to want peace… yet harbored such malicious intent all along."
Kakashi nodded grimly. "Kumogakure likely planned this operation for a long time. Even tonight, I assigned sensory ninja to monitor the envoy, but we didn't detect any suspicious chakra signatures. They must have devised a method to evade our detection."
Obito patted Kakashi on the shoulder, offering reassurance. "They're hiding under the guise of diplomacy. A few slipping past your senses is understandable."
According to Kenichi's memories, four ninjas had infiltrated the envoy, none particularly strong—except for Kenichi, who had already been neutralized.
Kakashi sighed, nodding reluctantly. "Even so, I can't avoid responsibility for this oversight."
Minato's calm voice broke through his thoughts. "Don't blame yourself, Kakashi. Everyone makes mistakes—that's what allows our comrades opportunities to shine."
Obito struck a triumphant pose. "Exactly! Now, bow before your savior!"
"You idiot!" Kakashi punched Obito lightly, though his mood seemed to improve.
Minato smiled faintly before turning serious. "Alright, let's focus. There's still a critical issue to resolve."
The room fell into thoughtful silence. Kenichi was a ticking time bomb—mishandling this situation could put Konoha at a severe disadvantage.
After a moment, Obito's lips curled into a sly smile.
Minato noticed and asked, "Obito, you have an idea?"
Obito chuckled. "I do, though it's a bit unpolished."
Gesturing to Kenichi, he explained, "From what I've seen in his memories, Kumogakure's boldness comes from their belief that Konoha fears war. But in reality, they're not in any shape for an all-out conflict either—it's all a bluff."
Minato and Kakashi nodded in agreement.
Obito's grin widened. "Then let's play along. We can use this to strike back and remind Kumogakure why no one messes with Konoha."
