Naruto: The Tale of an Otsutsuki

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Confrontation

After leaving Naruto's ward, Kirito didn't head straight to the Hokage's office. Although he had agreed to meet Tsunade, he hadn't specified when, and he figured it wouldn't hurt to keep her waiting a little.

Before going, he decided to check on Rock Lee in his ward.

When Kirito arrived, he found Lee lying on his bed, energetically doing sit-ups. It was hard to believe he had just undergone a major surgery.

"Kirito!" Lee greeted him with his characteristic enthusiasm. "Good morning!"

"Morning," Kirito replied with a small nod.

"As expected of the legendary Tsunade-sama!" Lee exclaimed, flipping upright from his bed with a perfect kip-up. "I feel like I've fully recovered already! I want to rejoin my team and take on missions again!"

Kirito smiled faintly. "From a medical perspective, I'd recommend resting for at least one more day. Your repaired bones and muscles need time to stabilize."

"But…" Lee's voice faltered, his tone filled with frustration. "While everyone was out there risking their lives for Konoha, I was stuck in bed, helpless."

"There's nothing you could've done," Kirito said evenly. "Your job now is to recover."

"But imagine it!" Lee's eyes shone with tears. "A battle to protect comrades, fighting with everything you have—what a fiery, youthful scene that must have been!"

If only you knew that the one you're trying to bring back doesn't even want to come back, Kirito thought silently, resisting the urge to sigh.

Still, he softened his tone. "Once you're discharged, you'll have plenty of chances to sweat it out with your team. For now, rest and let your body heal."

"You're right!" Lee declared, dropping to the floor to begin a set of push-ups. "I'll do one thousand push-ups to prepare for tomorrow's missions!"

Kirito watched Lee train with boundless energy and decided against trying to stop him. With how resilient people in this world are, it'll probably be fine.

Once satisfied that Lee's condition was stable, Kirito left the ward and headed for the Hokage's office.

Meanwhile, in the Hokage's office, Tsunade was interrupted by an unexpected visitor.

Leaning on a cane, his right arm concealed under a thick black robe, and his face partially covered by bandages, Danzo entered the room. His cold demeanor filled the space.

"What are you doing here, Danzo?" Tsunade asked sharply.

"I'm here to address a potential threat to Konoha," Danzo replied calmly.

Tsunade's eyes narrowed. "Threat?"

"Kirito." Danzo stepped closer, his tone commanding. "He is not a member of the Senju clan, nor is he a direct descendant of the First Hokage. Yet he has awakened Wood Release. I believe it's necessary to test his loyalty to Konoha."

Tsunade stiffened, her anger simmering just below the surface.

"You and I both know the significance of Wood Release," Danzo continued. "Such a power cannot remain in the hands of someone with an unknown origin. For the sake of the village, I propose we place him under the care of Root for observation and training. This is standard procedure for elite recruits."

Tsunade slammed her palm on the desk, standing abruptly. "Absolutely not!" she snapped. "As Hokage, it's my responsibility to oversee Kirito's development. He will remain under my jurisdiction, and I will personally ensure his loyalty."

Danzo's single visible eye glinted with calculation. "You don't understand the seriousness of this situation. Even Uchiha Sasuke was lured away by Orochimaru. Can you guarantee that someone with Kirito's immense power won't betray us?"

"I'll take full responsibility," Tsunade declared, her voice firm. "I've decided to take Kirito as my apprentice. If he defects, I'll answer for it personally as his master and Hokage."

Shizune, standing nervously by Tsunade's side, hesitated to interject. She wanted to remind Tsunade that Kirito hadn't agreed to this apprenticeship yet, but the fiery look in Tsunade's eyes kept her silent.

Danzo's calm exterior faltered for a moment before he regained control. "Hokage, are you truly prepared to bear the consequences of your decision?"

"I am," Tsunade said firmly. "And I won't let you or anyone else meddle in this."

Danzo's grip tightened on his cane as memories of the past surfaced. Years ago, he had attempted to recruit Kirito into Root. The boy, an orphan with Byakugan yet unshackled by the Hyuga clan's restrictions, had intrigued him. However, Kirito's elusive nature had thwarted every attempt to capture him.

Now, Danzo realized Kirito had grown far stronger than he had anticipated. Watching Tsunade refuse his proposal again stoked the bitterness in his heart.

"If Kirito's abilities prove dangerous, I won't hesitate to act," Danzo said ominously. "But for now, I'll withdraw."

He turned to leave, his mind already working through contingencies. His right eye, hidden beneath his bandages, burned with suppressed power.

If he becomes a true threat, I'll use all the tools at my disposal to eliminate him.

As Danzo opened the door, he found himself face-to-face with Kirito's cold, unblinking Byakugan.

The tension between the two was palpable as their gazes locked.

"Excuse me," Kirito said evenly, stepping aside to let Danzo pass. His voice betrayed no emotion, but his sharp eyes missed nothing.

Danzo lingered for a moment, then continued on his way, leaving Tsunade and Kirito alone in the office.

"You're late," Tsunade said, her tone still sharp from her confrontation with Danzo.

Kirito shrugged. "I didn't know there was a deadline."

Tsunade sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Never mind that. We need to talk."

Kirito stepped forward, his expression unreadable, as Tsunade prepared to delve into matters of loyalty, power, and trust.
